The Other Movie God Thread (legitamacy)

What do you guys think about the whole MG situation. Most of the discussion is in the Die Another Day thread, but I thought that this dispute could get its own thread. Mainly just the poll is what I wanted to put in place though.

The plot thing, I kinda gotta go wiht you, but the thing is, your going about it the wrong way man. Your making MG seem like a fag and an ass, or atleast it seems to me thats the point your trying to get across.

I dont agree with that, not even a little. I think MG is an awesome guy, but no more awesome than any other cool poster here, And I do agree that I think that his reviews are plot summarys rated, doesn't mean he doesn't see the movies, but he sure writes a shitty review... lol. (No offense intended MG) I could write a review for LOTR Return of the King right now, do a summary of the plot, and give it a 10, and my review would be accurate, and alot like MG's but doesn't mean I've seen the movie.

I think people sucking MG's dick for these reviews that I could have done in 4th grade annoys the piss out of me, either people shut up about him, or MG tell em to stop, or admit your reviews are fake if they are... something. This is getting old as shit, and annoying me even more than poeple going "I LOVE CTP/TCF!!"

I want people to understand that I dont dislike MG, I just think his reviews arent worth the verbal oral sex he gets.

Wow. So many posts to address. Where to begin.

First of all, I knew that this thread was going to be a big hit w/ most of you guys, but I could
really care less. That’s not to say that I don’t care about your opinions though. There’s not much
to say about this subject that I haven’t said already. I hate being lied to, therefore I took it upon
myself to make sure that MG’s reviews aren’t as praised anymore. However, I can’t just simply
change your minds. It’ll take your own desire to accept the fact that something may not be as
true as you’ve believed all along. I AGREE that MovieGod is a good guy. He DOES make good
threads and say nice things and make constructive and helpful comments to those that need help.
I am not trying to take that away from him in the least. And the mis perception here is that I
hate this guy and think he should go away. None of this is true. The only deal I have with MG is
the fact that I personally believe his reviews not to be true and accurate. This is my personal
opinion. To this you could say, “then keep it to yourself.” I, however, chose to make this
opinion public in order to see how others felt. I put my credibility at risk by saying this and have
been, as I predicted, horribly flamed. A little dispute got started in the Die Another Day thread,
and I just figured that, since there was such a disagreement, I’d make a poll so that everyone
could voice their opinion without having to flame other people. And seeing as Moviegod is such
a large part of the VCDQuality boards, I thought that I’d give people a chance to peacefully state
their opinion. But apparently I misplaced my faith in you guys not to freak out. That says more
about you than it does about me no matter who’s right and who’s wrong.

And to those of you who believe that I’m going about this in the wrong way (i.e. svenbob whose
opinion I do respect nonetheless) here’s the first post I made in this thread:

What mean thing did I say there. I declared my intentions while hurting no feelings. Then

And I agree people took the wrong method in argueing thier point, but putting "Legitamancy" in the thread topic immdiatly puts a bad taste in someone's mouth and pisses them off because your insulting thier diety. Everyone should know my standing on MG at this point in time in my posts in this thread and the other, and dont need to reinforce it here, just read up a few posts.

I believe MG is 100% accurate remember critics do not explain details about the movie or events in the movie so before you go and talk shit about MG read your local newspaper(if you can read) and read some reviews tell me if you see the movie broken down to your standards.

I do have one complaint The reviews of one Mystic Slippers they are all old news and a waste of bandwidth IMO-2 cents from a Newbie

Thanks for the compliment, but I'd rather leave my personal shit outa this. thanks for asking though. And thanks for the back up and the peaceful understanding of other people's opinions. and to all of u guys out there who think i'm all alone, check out the poll results. as of now (when i made this post) the two sides are pretty even.

how could a review not be true and accurate ?

i mean he just talks about a movie, when i watch Siskel & Ebert or whatever (one is dead i think) they often sit there and give a different review cause they have different perspectives on the movies they watch so how can a person say ebert's review is wrong (or inacurate) and siskel's is right (or acurate)

so how can someone's review be falseor inacurate when its his perspective ? unless you were just calling him liar then thats something you got to take up with him or whoever is willing to flame you over these allagations

The Accuracy I'm speaking of is not in the "correctness" of the review itself (because you're right: there is no such thing), but more the accuracy to the movie itself. like stuff besides plot points and things like that. an accurate review would be one that told a little about the plot and then described what the movie did well and what it failed at etc. see what i'm saying. I completely undrstand what you wrote though. I probably should've been clearer about what I meant.

Hmmm, this is very interesting. I don't want to say that I agree with one side or the other right now. I never really paid that much attention to his reviews except for films that I want to see (Two Towers). I realize that he is some type of forum god or something, but if you really look at the reviews, there really isn't anything critical about the movie except for his final grade. I want to believe MG is who he says he is, so if he could just start making his reviews more critical, or give some type of proof.... (Saying something on his Radioshow?) or maybe that will compromise him. (Of course, if he is who he says he is, there can't be that many movie critics on radio shows in Hawaii). I talked to a friend who was in Hawaii if he knew of a famous critic in Hawaii, and said that there was one, so I just assumed it was MG. I just want some better reviews, or some type of proof if MG is going to say who says he is. Otherwise, his posts are fine with me even if he isn't a critic. It lets me know what movies are coming out (Since, I don't check imdb as much as here).
