i'm personally for Fellowship, It stayed away from most hollywood cliches. I watched FoTR on the upwards of 20 times. Two Towers i've seen 3. It was great the first couple times, but i just don't have the resolve to watch it, maybe because it seemed to far from Tolkiens work.

Agreed... 100%... i downloaded TTT dvdscreener and started watching it and just took it out cause i was tired of it after seein it 3 times in the theater... It was just too Hollywoodish

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

FoTR.....by far for me was more enjoyable

i really had to struggle to get through all of TTT

I def agree that there were way too many "hollywood" type storytelling tricks used in TTT

everytime Liv Tyler comes on screen i grooooann and moan

avert my eyes

plug my ears

haha

Agreed fellowship easily

I think i posted similar comments after seeing it opening night...i don't know if i used the word hollywoodish, but i should have...

gimli becoming the comic relief, legolas doing stuff, like riding a shield down stairs, and grabbing the riegns of a horse and slinging himself onto the back...

and i really dispised the whole frodo journey this movie, boring to me...

plus i don't care what people say they made frodo and sam a little to homoerotic..."It's your sam, it's your sam" and so forth... i think the first one was more plot oriented and as i gain in years that seems to matter more to me

so that makes 2 movies reviews for me on this movie

'they' didn't, tolkien did. But it was in a time when homoeroticism was untred territories, just now it seems to be that way. I mean back then guys were a lot more 'chummy'. Now everyone fears to have the homosexual tag attached to them, so they have to be 'manly' and the only contact they can make with another male seems to be in anger and violence.

fellowship i like didnt want to end... with ttt.. i just wanted to fast forward everything =/

I thought both were much of a muchness. I think the first one might just be better. To be honest i'm not really that impressed with them as movies. Maybe when the trilogy is finished and i watch them back to back i might learn to appreciate them a little bit more.

I agree very much on the "hollywoodish" point that was made, they went way too far in changing the book. It was like they thought they were better writers. And all those little 'stunts' were over the top and un-needed. This film seemed to be MUCH more oriented for big fights and not much reason to want to fight them. It also seemed to me to actually 'feel' like 3 hours very different to the feeling I got with the Fellowship that it needed a while longer to complete. Overall I will still be very anxious for the Return of the King but I think I could have directed the Two Towers better .

P.S. Not that I have seen it on this board, but what is the deal with so many ignorant people referring to the second installment of LotR as "The Twin Towers" grrr it is very annoying...

Posted by BoboBaggins on 01-29-2003 07:45 PM:

"The Twin Towers"

hahaha

i hadnt heard that before

anyways, since we are on the subject of over hollywoodization(i just made that up)

is it only me or was the "love" subplot between Arwen and Aragorn horrible and overblown??

Tolkien was not a romance writer!

Posted by exorcist on 01-30-2003 12:21 AM:

yes he was, almost the whole aragorn and arwen scenes were from the appendices

You haven't seen the third yet... How do you know which is best?

Posted by Raven_Era on 02-01-2003 07:56 AM:

I personally liked Two Towers mainly cause of the big battle and how they designed the moving trees and the appearance of Gollum.

My parents bought the FoTR extended edition DVD and I have to admit I've watched it many times because it is still cool to watch again. Two Towers I've only seen once in theaters and I'm waiting for DVD to come out so my parents could buy it.

TTT

Two Towers no question for me.

I enjoyed the first one, but you have more story depth, action, and adventure in this one.

I expect the 3rd to be the best.

Wow, 36 votes 18 for FotR 18 for TTT 50/50

I guess they were both good then?
