OMG UGH FS?!?!??!!?! Why fullscreen? I know it was probably their only source, but FS SUCKS! It cuts off like 40% of the picture from the sides dont beleive me, you hate those black bars? Look here... and you should change your mind http://www.widescreen.org/examples/...hip/index.shtml

It is good quality, but it is FS.

bwahahaha, fs. who the hell actually watches movies in this format still? 90 year old grandmothers with astigmatism?

Posted by Cory on 02-07-2003 03:25 PM:

I don't care about FS...especially since I won't be watching this...mainly kids would be...and they won't really notice the difference. Haven't downloaded it so I can't rate it...but I say good job on the release...

Not quite. There are many different ways of making a movie fullscreen, and cutting off 40% is only one of them. Harry Potter is scope, and these days that means it was either filmed anamorphically or with Super 35. If it was anamorphic, then the only image available is the theaterical scope image, and 40% of it would be cut off for fullscreen.

Harry Potter was Super 35, though, which means there's a full 4:3 film frame available. For a fullscreen video release of a Super 35 movie, assuming the filmmakers protected the areas above and below the 2:35 image, you'd get more image above and below the widescreen version. You'd still lose some image on the sides, but not nearly as much.

So, watching Harry Potter in fullscreen isn't all that bad. I'd never do it, since I only want to see the theatrical version, and if it's 4:3 it sure doesn't feel like a real movie. But it's not as bad as, say, watching Star Wars in pan & scan. You won't really lose anything important on the screen in an open matte transfer like this. And these days they often even do the effects in the full frame, figuring they'll look good on a full-frame video release.

Sorry, rambling.

ObOnTopic: Nice and early release, I'll stick with the widescreen DVD SCR for now.

I'm one of those strange people who actually wants to see the movie first, then cares if it is in W/S second.

So it's full screen. I don't care, I'm just happy to get a good copy of the movie.

But I'm funny like that I guess, appreciating peoples work....

Did you happen to miss the DVDSCR? Your post doesn’t make to much sense if you didn’t. And if you did, crawl out from that rock you have been hiding under.

someone with some brains.

OK to the people that said stuff... So just because it is that Super-35 film it has all the stuff the widescreen has? NO. It still has the extra on the sides cut off... doenst really make that much of a difference... It just isnt cut from the reel of the anamorphic film... It still isnt there. I will take a good DVDSCR and keep it if it is nice, how this one was. FS ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT DOES NOT HAVE ALL THE EXTRA PICTURE THAT WIDESCREEN HAS! Unless it is originally shot fullscreen and kept fullscreen only, then widescreen is the answer. You see what was originally meant for you to see.

nope total tripe

when a film is shot in open matte, it is filmed fullscreen, altho its still framed for ws use. so when they release the VHS versions, you get ALL of the ws picture, plus a few inches above and below.

doesn't mean i agree with FS prints (as its shot for WS playback) but it doesn't always mean FS has less picture.

also, blame the public for why this is FS. its cos of dumbasses with $40 dvd players and 14" dvd players is why FS dvds are released now, rather than it being a format only for those who truly love home cinema. asses.

UTi and FS

Why is it that people complain. Why would someone ask the question why FS. The answer is fucking obvious. The supplied pressed Pre-Retail they got their hands on was FS version. What would you have preferred them to do. Re-encode that shit into a ws version. That makes a whole lot of fucking sense. Anyways, before you hate, think about the type of contacts and effort that goes into finding suppliers like this. FS WS whatever, the supply is the supply its better then no supply. And its definetly better then a ts or screener. I think the whole scene is getting very picky and no one appreciates how much better things are becoming. A fS pre-retail a year ago with a release of this magnitude would have been killer. Now its not. Wow I guess all you flamers out there sure are supplying and making things happen. Instead everyone is Flaming. Well guess what. All of you who do not supply but critize, what the fuck do you add to the scene besides your fucking lame comments. Its you that is the flamer. There is no doublt in my mind that CURRETNLY the best groups supplying quality to the scene is TCF, UTi, and TDi. And the reason I say this is that These are about the only groups that are getting these type of Pre-Retails, and DVDscreeners. They have the mad contacts. The best groups always do. My guess it will be either TCG, or UTi who releases the LORTTT Pre-Retail. We will see. Flamers fuck off, because you guys BITE BALLS.

In hollywood critics and audience ar crucial.Thats what makes them money. Its nice to see arguements over "Fs" , regardless the group.
Id have to admit 99.9 percent of these posts are not "proffesional" or anything of that sort, but its still from a critiques point of view (flamers and lamers, what the fuck ever) .
Still means something to somebody...

Anyway , my point is who cares what people think and say, your only making it worse by pointing out the obvious.
