Review Phone Booth (2003) w/ Collin Farrel and Kiefer Sutherland

In Hollywood, there are few people who have great sinister voices, and you can count Kiefer Sutherland as one of them, and he plays his voice to perfection in the new thriller which stars Irish actor Collin Farrell in probably what may be his best role to date.

Fresh, hip, and hot actor Collin Farrell plays, Stu Shepard, a low-rent media consultant, who seems to have the hookups of everything, from Concert tickets to hotlines to the hottest celebrities. He is simply Mr. Popular, and his life simply revolves around his cell phone.

Undaunted, his life changes for the worst when he enters a New York City Phone Booth to answer a random call, but sighted within his sights is at the beginning an unseen Sniper voiced by Sutherland, with a rifle aimed right at Stu's head.

When an innocent bystander gets gunned down, everyone around thinks Stu is the Sniper, and a classic standoff begins with the Sniper, Stu, and the police, led by brilliant actor Forest Whitaker.

If Stu hangs up the phone he is dead, but if he hangs on to the phone, Police swat want to end Stu's life as well.

In a cat and mouse struggle and the media hungry press, bring his wife, played by Pitch Black's Radha Mitchell and his girlfriend, played by Katie Holmes.

Phone Booth is a classic Hitchcock type of film, that you can't afford to take a break, otherwise you'd miss this good movie.

Recommended very highly, Phone Booth was slated for release last year, but was pushed back because of the Washington DC Sniper attacks of last year.

Phone Booth is rated 'R' for language and violence.

My rating: a 9.75 out of 10.

coming to theatres: April 4, 2003
Distributor:20th Century Fox

I live in Montgomery County (Sniper Attacks were in Montgomery County, not DC, but Mont. County is part of the suburbs) and the Snipers took a lot of fun out of a whole month basically. Believe it or not, they started the shootings on my mom's birthday and she got SO WORRIED, we couldn't go to a nice restaurant! I guess I feel mixed about them moving the release date on Phone Booth, maybe it's just bad luck for Colin Farrell! (Didn't Hart's War get moved also, because of September 11th?) I love some Joel Schumacher movies, though I wasn't nuts about Bad Company. I was REALLY looking forward to Bad Company because it had two of my fav. actors, Sir Hopkins and Chris Rock, but it didn't turn out well. I hope Joel Schumacher gets back to his old ways with Phone Booth because movies like "The Rock" kicked ass!

I couldn't wait for this movie last year and I still can't wait for it. Collin Farrell and Keifer are such good actors. Thanks for the review. Rating pretty close to a 10 .

I saw a trailer for this a long time ago and I wanted to see it so badly. When is the release date for this movie? This is a movie I will have to pay to go and see! hehe.

Looked awesome, and with your review it sounds very interesting. These are the types of movies that I love.

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

A very good movie, especially considering that almost the entire movie takes place in and around a phone booth.

My Rating: 9.0/10
