Who Should play Neo....?
If you were about to cast the matrix, who would you have play Neo?, sould it of been Reeves or can you think of someone better suited???

I heard Ewan McGregor was 1st in line for the job but he turned it down
...............silly boy

Ewan McGregor wouldnt have been good as neo
Keanu Reeves is perfectly fine with me ...I wouldnt change a thing

james duval (doom generation, donnie darko) probably could have done it...and no one would have noticed the difference and they'd have saved a couple million dollars
i think they should reshoot every movie ever made and cast Christopher Walken as the lead just for laughs
tom cruise could have probably done the matrix, its somewhat mission impossible-esque. but i think keanu reeves does a good job

i agree that james duval is similar to keanu in some ways.. but in no way is he a good enough actor to pull off the matrix... even though the doom generation and nowhere are cult classics.. i dont see him in an action role of the matrix' magnitude

Keanu is fine. Cruise, NO WAY.
<3 Donnie Darko
i think that james duvall would have been an excellent decision, dont get me wrong, Keanu is awsome and i like it with him, but if could choose alternates... they would be:
Edward Norton (maybe like 8 years younger)
Stephen Dorff
River Pheonix (if he was still alive)

in relation to original post Ewan McRegor did turn it down as also did Will Smith, neither of which (in my humble opinion) would have been as good as Reeves

One time, my cousin Walter got this cat stuck in his ass. True story. He bought it at our local mall so the whole fiasco wound up on the news, it was embarrassing for my relatives and all, but the next week he did it again, different cat, same results, complete with another trip to the emergency room! So I run into him a week later in the mall and he’s buying another cat and I says to ‘em "Jesus Walt, what are you doing? You know your just gonna get this cat stuck up your ass too, why don’t you knock it off?" And he says to me "Brodie, how the hell else am I supposed to get the gerbil out?" My cousin was a weird guy....

its hard to do but u got to think of this as if u had never even seen keanu as neo. cos who ever had the part ud say seemed fine and fit the part...i can never picture anyone else in the role of others, cos it would rui the film as i know it, and i think reeves is good enough.
although id love to see van damme in a big budget movie for once...so id use him as neo
or on a serious note maybe mark walhberg would have been good.
ewan would have ruined it cos he dont look cool, (looks more like a twat)
u should all know the answer by now : ROLLINS!

I think Keanu does a great job in the matrix, I couldn't imagine anyone else doing it. But it always lurks in the back of my mind I am Bill, and this is Ted and we are the Wyld Stallyns.

Keanu is the only one i can see doing the matrix ... although i am currently thinking how hilarious it would be for sean connery to have been neo. To see sean walk into that lobby with all those guns the trenchcoat swaying... diving around kicking ass and dodging bullets... ahh they missed out there!

Ewan McGregor, Tom Cruise and Will Smith were all considered to play the role of Neo. And Val Kilmer was originally supposed to be Morpheus -- which I think would have been kinda cool, though Fishburne pulled off the zen-likeness very well anyways.
I don't know. I'd have liked to see Christian Bale (from Equilibrium, American Psycho) or the late Brandon Lee. Maybe even Michael Biehn from The Terminator. What ever happened to him, anyways? I always liked his roles. The Neo role is tricky because it wouldn't work with someone high-profile who you're used to seeing kicking ass and wearing sunglasses. Someone like Brad Pitt would just ruin the aesthetic value of the film.
But conversely, if I were the casting coordinator, I wouldn't have been thinking 'What about that guy from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure? [air guitar]Excellent!![/air guitar]' They'd also have to act with a sense of uncertainty, as Neo's every line in The Matrix seemed to be either a question or inquiry -- something which I can actually see Cruise pulling off as he's been in a lot of those types of roles.
Fuck it, I don't know.
I think Tom Cruise would have pulled it off awesome, but Keanu seems to just 'fit'

All of these guys could've been great Neos:
Antonio Sabato Jr. (The Big Hit)

Russell Wong (New Jack City, Romeo Must Die)

James Marsden (X-Men, X2: United, Interstate 60)

Brandon Lee (The Crow) ...if he were still alive
