From the sample:
9/7/? don't know if i will pick up this one or not, i havent ever heard of this movie.
good pic, ws and no perm watermarks, i like that
sound is ok it sounded a little hollow, i believe that is part of the movie though.

I LOVE ESOTERiC releases. Especially with recent releases like The Good Thief (SCR and DVDSCR), City Of God (SCR), Dirty Pretty Things (DVDRIP) and now this.

Thankyooooooooou!

7/8/X

::edit - just started playing CD1. this release looks super cropped. withing the first 2 minutes a message pops up at the top of the screen saying "PURPOSES ONLY. DO NOT DUPLICATE." where's the rest of the message above it? Cropped out. Probably due to a serial or something. Anywho i've changed my rating, the pic is gorgeous, so is the audio, just a shame it's cropped.

well then you obviously dont pay attention to the movie world. take a look at all the awards this movie won, and stop watching movies like the hulk and from justin kelly.
8.5/8/?(only have watched half the movie--very good so far)

What Whale Rider?? Havent heard of this movie.... I'll grab the sample and watch a trailer to see wtf is this all about..

Posted by Chewsmoka on 06-29-2003 09:42 AM:

From Sample - Video is slightly blurred as well as grainy - should be smoothed out enough in standalone player. Audio was hollow sounding, and not impressive.

Based on a VHS Screener - 6/5/?

well damn i haven't ever heard of it, shoot me, commercials/theatrical trailers are how i see most of the movies coming out, i am not obsessed with movies and go to movie sites every second i am on the internet. the hulk sucked my ass, i couldnt stand to watch but half of it. from justin to kelly will never see my dvd player.

Looks like an afterschool special. But what the hell... I'll download it.

the rls is good.. 8/8/? but as for the movie... WTF? where did this come from, i have never heard of "whale rider"... Maybe a small movie or something. Will look into it, maybe if i find out waht it is then i will download more then just the sample but as for now, just the sample! nice rls ESO

Posted by FunkyFlyChicken on 06-30-2003 03:58 AM:

Not too bad... Maybe ESO IS getting better...

Well, I was never a big fan of ESO in the beginning, but they are definately improving.

However, even if this came from a VHS cassette, I just feel that it could have been a bit clearer, pic wise.

The audio is decent, nothing special.

As for the movie, it's nice to see something different once in a while. I love big action as much as the next guy, but I also like a bit of culture and philosophy as well.

I have friends that have vacationed in New Zealand a few times, and I would just LOVE to go there...

BTW - something that just CRACKED ME UP...

jmur says, "... stop watching movies like the hulk and from Justin Kelly...", trying to imply that people need to get some SUBSTANCE...

FUNNY THING IS - jmur's tagline says "Hillary Duff Worshipper"...

Irony is a great thing, being a moron isn't... Watch it when you contradict yourself...

i doubt eso would crop out a serial, they'd probably blur it.

my guess is that the first line of the warning was above the picture, in the black bar part, and that the black bars were overlaid using something like avisynth's letterbox(y1,y2) to darken them and give the pic more contrast.

I havent watched the movie yet but am definately keen to. As I am from New Zealand. I believe the movie describes a maori (Native person) myth/legend.
New Zealand hardly ever release movies that go International and do well. The movie was a major hit in New Zealand but then its our culture.
Kids fighting with bamboo sticks. The native New Zealanders were a hand to hand combat race back in the early ages. They used sticks to train with for combat and then those sticks were developed into a spear type weapon where one end was fairly sharp and the other like a blade this they called them tiaha's or something of that spelling anyways just a bit of culture stuff so you guys may understand it a little better.

Watchable version of a great little movie

It's a great little heart-felt magical flick which would likely appeal to folks who like Field of Dreams and Household Saints kind of movies. If you don't care for those you probably won't care for this. The 11 year old Keisha gives a great debut performance.

Angry

Hasn't anybody actually watched this movie? The audio is badly out of sync. I've also got a player that plays anything, so I know it's not my player.

Posted by GaryC on 07-22-2003 05:49 PM:

Yep rotorman67 ive watched the movie. Audio is in sync on my standalone player and on my PC so im not sure what is causing your problem.

Good release of a very good film.
