Let me know what ya think of the new nfo's.. what can i do to make the site better? let me know! thanks

Thumbs up

wow, finally

hm actually i never understood the problem the browsers seem to have displaying the nfo's.. i thought the whole clue is about using the right font (fixedsys?) - why can't you simply set the appropriate font in the source and let the browser display it this way?

i'm pretty sure i saw this on another release site (NFOrce), but only with Opera, not IE..

well, at least your solution is faster than Isonews' java applet
but aren't these big png's causing heavy loads of traffic?

*** first post in here.. hello everyone ***

if u want x69 to pull all his hair out in frustration and fury, thats the question to ask simply put : it doesn't work like that. besides those fonts look crappy, look at the nfos in a proper viewer like ACiD or Eltons etc, and look how much better they look that in Notepad.

I dont know why it is exactly but nomatter what font you try to use IE will not display anything using the ASCII charset.. maybe i'm missing something but i could never get it to work properly.. So thats the reason for using the png images generated by a script on my site.. and the largest nfo png file i've seen sofar is about 25k.. where as the source nfo file was about 12k.. so its about twice the bandwith useage..

To properly view a NFO file, your Font should be set at "Terminal".

/me holds X69 back from killing videop with a huge knife cos he doesn't read

and no, terminal font is shitty anyway. compare terminal to a proper nfo viewer and u'll see how crap it is.

Lucida Console ANSI, but it cant be used on website i don't think because it's not a standard windows font.

I don't remember saying it looked better. Before the advent of "NFO Viewers", NFO's were made using the Terminal Font and were viewed using the Terminal Font. ASCII art has been around a lot longer than the so called NFO Viewers, and in my mind Terminal is the proper way of viewing them.

Perhaps being an "Admin" you should really do some research on the history of the scene.

Posted by pHo on 08-05-2002 04:03 PM:

how bout you do some fuckin research yerself then? you think ascii art was designed to be viewed in terminal ? fuckin retard. ASCII art has been around since before Windows itself, and from other systems, and the original NFOs for the current "scene" were designed in programs like TheDraw, ACiDDRAW etc, and were viewed using a compatable viewer (such as ACiDVIEW, ICEVIEW or even EDIT.COM ) or simply by using TYPE on the CLI in conjunction with ANSI.SYS

now instead of criticising, not reading the thread properly and talkin completely out of your arse, why dont you either write the magical code that will force all browsers to use a proper charset , which will still look worse than the current system, or just fuck off back to wherever you came from. Dont like the site : dont fuckin use it.

oh no wait, your right.. the admin knows shit.. the scene was born when Win3.1 was the OS of choice for all warez and all the groups like THG and Razor1911 purely designed all their NFOs around the Terminal font. and yes, i now realise that instead of multicoloured ANSI blocks displayed in the old bbs ads, they were SUPPOSED to look like vomit that Terminal pukes out, because it doesnt support half the functions. My how i've learnt my lesson. I think i'll scrap all my ansi/ascii standard viewing and creation tools and do everything in notepad now. ah yes, the way it doesn't even bother saving with a fixed 80 width and fucks everything up .. beautiful.

if you want to try and show someone up, at least talk some fuckin sense. oh, and research is for people who werent there.

Hmmm...ok..so let me get this straight.

A program coded and developed in 1997 (Aciddraw) was used pre 1986 to design ASCII art...

I really can't believe an Admin would be so lame as to try to be something he is not. I think I have had enough of this little chat. Its painfully obvious you really know nothing about the subject.

HAHAHA

Posted by vibeop on 08-06-2002 09:34 AM:

Hmmm...you deleted my last post...guess in all fairness I shouldn't have proven you wrong, you being an Admin and all.

I know you will delete this post also, but thats fine...it's between you and me Dude.

Here is a quote you made.

"and research is for people who werent there"

Uhmmm...you were born in 1981 Dude !!! Hehe...

Like I said in the post you deleted...don't try to be something you are not.

23 years old and he was "there"...pretty lame

Posted by pHo on 08-06-2002 12:12 PM:

so you can't understand a moderation queue (its set up quite simply, even the lamers can read the message that flashes up at the end of every post) and you try to outsmart me? hello dipshit , i didn't delete any post, look above. why should i delete stuff that makes you look stupid?

and you think aciddraw was made in 1997? jeezus christ...
"51K 12-03-1994 ACiD DRAW v0.5a Ansi Screen Editor" and thats when i started using it, before hand i used other tools. nice research there tho, can't even find a date for a widely used program thats available on countless websites. as i stated, but hey you can't read so its no surprise you totally ignored it, the ascii standard was used on many systems as well as PC, i was just using modern-scene tools which i still happen to use. but no, you continue using Terminal in Notepad, i'm sure you'll be very happy together.

and hey, its not my fault it took you 20+ years to learn how to use a mouse, doesn't mean we all are. im 20, so what? i actually knew more about these things when i was 8 years younger, but things change and i went to follow different directions. and i'm not talkin bout some ascii scene i dont really care about (and you have no idea about) because NFO doesn't follow strict ASCII code, as it follows the newschool standards which diverse out of standard typeface, but no, you're older so you must know better. by the way, i've owned, built and operated PC systems for the last 12 years, from 8086 class machines upwards, so i "was there" in the time period that i'm referring to, and from 1986 i was using BBC ModelB, Sinclair, Amstrad and Atari systems, so im not some GUI whore that doesn't know how to handle a simple command line.

"Uhmmm...you were born in 1981 Dude !!! Hehe..." "23 years old and he was "there"...pretty lame" actually, your maths is pretty lame, honestly, when i was 5 i could do a simple sum like "2002-1981 = 21 (or 20 as i happen to be)" . maybe you're just superior and a decimal system is just too easy for you.. how bout we take it to binary instead? im 00010100 years old, that better?

i have no problem with being proven wrong, it's all part of the learning experience, but when someone tries to dig at me when they clearly dont know shit (and can't count) then you're just leaving yourself open for attack.

actually, i'm glad u posted, because i realised there was a flaw on the forum permissions for the News module, and only registered users should be able to post. you didn't reply to your email (electronic mail, in case you need it explaining) which we so kindly sent, so you're not actually registered. thanks for clearing that up. so, no, i haven't deleted your username because im so jealous of your age old experience Mr Babbage, but rules are rules im afraid.

(oh by the way, the PC ascii "art scene" was started by Tinyz in March 1994 in the group Katharsis!Ascii as they moved away from the Amiga and Commodore64 scene. so stuff your research.)
