I like the skull one. I havent played around with photoshop in ages but some good stuff here.

You should perhaps try toying around with levels/edge blur to reduce the harsh effect on the outline of your cutouts (primarily the second one with the girl.) That really bugged me with Arthur Dailys avatar

ermm, basically you need to apply an alpha channel over the cutout and then create a gaussian blur to remove the sharp edges, then you play around with levels to get some definition back on the image. PM me if you want help with it.

I just made this, but I had to put that filter on it because when it was in color there was an outline around my body [I obviously added myself in]. I'm not sure why there was an outline though considering I cut it out almost perfectly [?].



And notice the color difference in these two pictures [she has darker skin then me but still...isn't there a way to make them close to the same color?].



More filtering, ugh.



I didn't know how to do the shading where the rip is [wouldn't I have to make another layer?].



When I added her in [with color] it didn't look natural [as if she was originally in the picture, how would I do that?].

a lot of your problems seem to be with colour balancing of the various cutouts. Its a simple fix, just pick the layer you want to adjust and fiddle with the colour settings to get the desired effects.

Also whats with the grain effect, on some of the pictures, there seems to be a huge amount of it, making them seem...weird.

Basically the easiest thing is to split em up into separate layers then play around with colour, levels etc.

edit: on the first one, the cutout effect is either due to the settings on the filter or that theres still some shadow around the cutout. Try overlaying an alpha channel and see what comes out.

Personally I like the grain effect, but I wouldn't use it if I could get the pictures looking as if they belong together. And for some reason on my Adobe Photoshop [Cs2 v9.0] I can't use layers...I can't unlock them!? Any suggestions?! But thanks, you're a big help.

ermm perhaps when you open an image just copy it, open a new file and then paste it in.

If you are working in the original jpeg format its a lot more restrictive. Open it as a PSD (standard photoshop format) and then play around then.

one thing that really gripes me....FILTERS.

The less you can use the better. Or atleast use them right. Taking a picture and running a filter at it isn't "photoshopping"
