Question Grindhouse...a disappointment?

My lady and I went to Grindhouse last Saturday night, and I had a blast, she on the other hand thought it was a little gross but overall enjoyed it. My gripe has nothing to do with the movie but more with the marketing/distributors of the flick. For anyone who didn't already know, Grindhouse pretty much tanked last weekend barely beating "The Reaping" but still coming in a measly fourth with a little over 11 million. Why did the movie do so poorly? Well length probably had something to do with it but mainly, why the fuck would you release some super exploitive, bloody, gore fest on Easter weekend? I myself could care less, but Easter is a family weekend so people go see real shitty movies that they don't want to but have to because of kids. To make things worse, the Weinstein's are now thinking of pulling the film from theater and splitting them in half, adding extra footage but over all making the film shorter and open to a broader audience. i think thats a horrible idea, but thats just me. I'm just curious to see how many else out there saw the movie and what are your opinions about the splitting and terrible opening weekend.

If I see another ad for Spiderman 3 i'm gonna hunt down the marketing team behind it and stick knives in their eyes.

grindhouse

also, it's an R rated film so there goes you teeny boppers on a friday night and it's a niche genre. This movie isn't for everyone

while I quite enjoyed the fuck out of it it will bomb. It's not a movie everyone wants to see.

edit:// holy fuck i actually hit new post

Where is a decent release of this? Why do PUKKA only seem to do animated kids movies these days? Why are you a complete plonker by starting a new thread instead of replying? Why is it so hard for you to read and simply click reply? When will this merged with the other GrindHouse thread...fuck fuck fuck

check on imdb for release dates... u will see that the only place this comes out for a while is the good ol us of a... therefore all we are gonna get is that same crappy nyc silver floatin around, you wont see pukka or zn or mvs because this movie isnt released in foreign countries. luckily, there is a group these days that cams in the us and does a damn good job, namely 20th, and just as with blades of glory we will see a good release of grindhouse (blades of glory initially was only released in america, soon elsewhere...)

as for the movie, it was amazing. dont watch the crappy cam, pay for this one, it tanked.

thanks for that reply. Looking forward to someone like 20th releasing this. Since both parts are only being shown together in America I don't know if its worth waiting for a non USA release.

I think one of the fake trailers is not being shown in some places, not sure which.

This film was bound to flop.. at least in the states, cause well, its good. We all know nothing but crap rapes the box office(with a few exceptions)

we live in a country where "Are we done yet" premeired at #1.

the movie was alright, planet terrors the better one of the two, the rated-r deal can be blamed for the low box office numbers, i also think it flopped due to most people not knowing it was 2 movies attached together, and avoided watching it when they found out the length time, yeah theres dumb people out here.

No, I don't believe they are.

Apparently it didn't do enough box office in the US and we're gonna get screwed with 2 separate releases. Hasn't been confirmed yet, but still no UK release date. The cunts!

See what happens when you're a good boy and don't dl it?

Can't be too long for a R5 now.

***BUMP***

I watched Death Proof a couple of weeks ago and although it was enjoyable in parts, some scenes were protracted to the point that I chewed through my own jugular.

Basically, the action happens in two parts: Part one is about 45mins into the movie, lasts about a nanosecond then the movie slows down again. The second bit of action occupies probably the last 30mins of the movie and in all fairness, the movie JUST ABOUT redeems itself at the end. Everything in between is a bit shite to be honest though, I understand that Tarantino likes lots of pointless (albeit cleverly written) dialogue which has made some of his previous movies compelling but it's WAAAAAAY off the mark in Death Proof and actually feels like you're eavesdropping on the most vacuous dogshit imaginable.

Planet Terror on the other hand, I watched that bitch last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It's fast, gory, funny and gave me a hardon... Highly recommended.

I thought both parts were shit.

Posted by baha on 10-01-2007 11:37 PM:

I enjoyed both.

And, yes, I'm the one, I probably enjoyed Death Proof more. Don't get me wrong, PT was really funny, I'm down with the gore...and the kid in the car...does it get any better than that?!!?

But DP (woohoo!) had the build up, the tension, and was just generally sicker. And it doesn't hurt that I like sassy chicks. Sidney Poitier's daughter was fucking awesome. I really dug her attitude and screen presence, in much the same way her dad just oozed charisma she does as well. She's going to be a big, big star. Even the mongoloid chick out of CSI:NY looked kinda hot.

I'm reasonably pleased that we never got the cinema release of GH now, I probably wouldn't have watched the full length version of DP at all if the combined movie had been released here.

PS: Tarantino wins (if it was meant to be a contest). DP, particularly the bad lipsynch'ing (which never occurred in PT), felt more grindhouse than PT.

all Death Proof needed was less chit-chat and more violence... I was getting bored, often, then it would just do enough to get me interested. This lasted for an hour or so until the finale - which was excellent.

Planet Terror got my vote simply because I didn't lapse into a coma during certain scenes.
