American Gangster will win millions of Oscars because it is 157 minutes long...

I was researching American Gangster today,looks like a great flick. Without looking (and for no real reason at all) I had a hunch this would be a very long movie.

157 minutes. I was right.

This movie will win 100 million Oscars because it's 9000 hours long, like so many Best picture winners before it.

So, the key to winning best picture? Make your movie as long as possible and it will win, regardless of if it is any good.

HURRAH!

Watched the movie last night, American Gangster that is, not the spectacularly awesome looking Finishing The Game.

It was a good movie but compared to the likes of what the media is comparing it to, Scarface, Goodfellas, The Godfather etc I think it pales.

The ending was a bit limp and quickly sewn up and reeked of TVM/STM. Some parts of the movie felt out of period, the movie as a whole didn't quite capture the period feel unlike the aforementioned movies have done.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great movie, maybe I was just expecting too much from it.

Out of 10, I give it a 7.


Oh and Finishing The Game is brilliant, even though I haven't seen it yet.

Been off work with Flu today so didn't bother saving this for the weekend. Thought it was pretty damn good, it didn't feel like it was on for over 2 and half hours, always a sign its a decent movie.

Agree with Slippers about the ending and it could have used a bit more gratuitous violence but all in all probably in the top 5 movies I have seen all year.


Edit:: The Mobo's are quite amusing, those pesky blacks are claiming everything from Bangra to Country and Western music. Norah Jones was nominated this year, who's next? The bugler from Rourkes drift?

It was OK. Not Ridley Scott's best.
The ending was a bit anti-climatic, as was the history it was based on.

I liked the naked cutter ho's. They have to be naked so they don't steal the shit. hilarious.

Best recent period movie (no, not menstroporn NEVERSOFT) has to be Munich.

Not only does the movie look the part throughout, unlike American Gangster which in parts looked like they hadn't bothered to dress it up like the period it is set in, but Munich kicks total fucking arse too.

In fact, i'm going to watch Munich again on Sunday night I think?

Why? Because it's a bloody brilliant movie. The end.

Have to agree one of the best flicks I've seen so far this year. And cupidstunt is right, never felt like the 2 and 1/2 hours it was, the movie moved along quite well.
