HD goodness
Blu-Ray players are starting to come down in price.
Best Buy has there own brand Insignia Blu-Ray Player for $169 and the reviews are rather favorable for it.
You can get the SAMSUNG Blu-Ray Player BD-P1500 for $199 along with Panasonic, and Sony. So you do have choices.
If you want a Denon which is what I really want it's still gonna cost you $500 which I'm not willing to spend that much on a player, lol.
I'm starting to consider a BR player with these prices.

I'm sorry but with the Netflix streaming service it makes the Xbox 360 the #1 choice for media.

Why even bother buying a bluray player?
Just buy a cable that connects your PC with your TV.
There's nothing I love more when watching a DVD than being lectured for 20 mins that I should have bought the Blu-Ray version instead because DVD is total crap.

I usually download the .x264 which don't play on the 360 but there are ways around that.
You can convert the .x264 into an mp4 file while you preserve the video quality but lose audio quality because the Xbox can't support the 5.1 audio with that format. I've converted a few movies and they all work on the PS3, and the 360.

how much machine do you have if you're playing 1080p .264 files? I've got severe stuttering on a sample i downloaded as a test, and that's on a athlon 64 3200 @ 2.2GHz, 2gb ram, radeon x1300 256mb graphics...
I guess its probably time for an upgrade, but what're you using?

as i was typing that i thought to myself "good lord, its time for a new rig!"
i hadn't realized its been about 2 years since my last upgrades... oh well, pricing out a quad core phenom wtih 8gig ram and a 512mb radeon 4000 HD series card... might be a good christmas after all. come to think of it, that'll probably speed up my encoding time just a bit too...
