A letter I got in the mail today

Dear Para

We have recieved a complainte from NBC Universal and Warner Bros. Verified Notide Program regarding someone in your household unlawfully downloading/uploading, file serving, file swapping or other similar activities by use of our internet service. This is the seond such complaint that we have received with regard to your acct. Our records show the following complaint

My ISP stated in the letter I have t contact them within 10 days or there suspend my service. lol

This is some bullshit

Posted by Vampire on 12-23-2008 01:48 AM:

Not really... you either move to a new ISP, find a different way of getting your shit (i.e. not torrents) or carry on and get suspended.

I'd recommend the first two.

Not recently, I usually do. Lately I've been using some public sites and I guess I shouldn't be doing that, lol.

Well I got like 40 xmas movies for my father and it's easier than using the private trackers cause of availability. I recently installed Vista 64 and haven't encrypted anything. So it's my bad. I just need to be more careful.

for any other dumb asses out there like me check this out, could help you out.

The private tracker I was using shut down due to lack of funds.

Most torrent clients have some sort of encryption, which I'm starting to wonder if it's enough. If anyone knows of some "free" apps that can make torrent activity anonymous, list it in hear or pm me some info.

I may go back to mIRC which I don't know if I really wanna do that, lol.

I wasn't aware that the MPAA started suing individuals and that's the main reason I stopped buying music and RIAA has been sued before for over pricing there goods.

Now the MPAA is suing people? I'm done buying movies now, fuck em. I'm sure Glickman has been on this site as I'm sure they browse our little humble forum.

Pure bullshit, What's funny. they found out I downloaded a few Xvid movies, yet I mainly download HD rips, lol. They really need to get there priorities straight. The MPAA is pulling the same bullshit that RIAA has been pulling for years now. Fuck em.

If they want to combat piracy go after the right people, Don't go after gramps for 600,000 or try to sue a fucking child.

A few miles away from me you can go into stores and buy pirated movies, and music so why not go after these people? Not the innocent. I'm not saying I'm innocent.

You are pirating movies, you are the 'right people'.

You have been a member here since pretty much the beginning, how have you let yourself get caught like a fucking noob?

You must be a fucking retard, you don't even have the excuse of not knowing the risks, I hope you get sued.

All I can say is in the past I got warnings from Cox, on different accounts, so I never met there strike 3 rule technically. I have found that while running peergaurdian, I never get these notices. I say if you are in an area of multiple ISPS, push the buttons, its a 3 strike rule im sure, after all... but run PG...

I frequent public tors myself, im not sure older movies is what got you caught, but when you call in, ask them! For real, id like to know, and its within your boundaries to know what you supposedly copyright infringed upon. Cox told me every time i called up, but maybe your isp will try to play slick

oh and as the above said, you fucked up or just went full on retard... 6 years here and you got such a notice given to an amateur limewire user.

Peer guardian has never worked for me, I always get errors with it.

Like I said I didn't take the precautions, so it's m fault. I'm not worried about it, It's a letter from my ISP, I won't admit to any guilt over the phone, I ain't that stupid.

I did set up the encryption within utorrent but my ISP isn't capping my speeds so that probably won't make a difference.

A firewall wouldn't make a difference on this, They got my IP from the outside. Theres no way in hell they should be able to see what's on my pc.

I'm on mIRC and boy that looks strange now, lol. I haven't used it in years.

The letter said Leatherheads. xvid
and, Gran Torino

Funny thing is I don't remember downloading an Xvid of leatherheads, but I did download the HD version.

Apparently you didn't read my fucking post all the way through did you StupidCunt? I said I'm not innocent, but Gramps was or did you miss that article?

I went full on retard here, lol. Like I said this is my fault. I fucked up.

Tell em you just got a wireless router for an early xmas present and have no clue who is downloading what nor how to use it or protect. Throw out statements like "What is The Firewall?" and "I don't know what W..E..P.. or W..P...A is". Stupid statements like that will make you look like a dumbass with an unsecured wireless network but they'll figure someone in your neighborhood is hooked into your connection and more than likely won't do anything except tell you to check into how to secure your network.

Worked for my friend JR with Time-Warner after I suggested it to him a few years back.

peer guardian is a firewall, it blocks connections from its list of agencies.... but they can still see your ip address from the tracker, they just can't connect...

and i tried playing dumb when they sent me a letter, at the end of it, it boiled down to me saying yes it was me or them investigating and pursuing trial.

Torrents = P2P. If you think they are superior to Kazaa, Emule or Limewire you are fucking kidding yourselves.

But...

please keep using them, it keeps the heat of ng's.

Posted by K-FurY on 12-23-2008 10:59 PM:

everything is on usenet. it'll max out your connection. why bother with torrents unless it's some rare ish you can't find elsewhere?
