The Immaculate Inauguration: The Chosen One Has Risen!

Today is a historical event one that I felt I would see eventually in my life but now that it's here I really have found it to be a profound experience all ready. For the first time ever an African-American will be sworn in as President of the United States, the most powerful position in the world. And I for one am proud to see it finally happen.

Why the thread title then? Regardless of color, Barrack Obama has me worried. Too many people believe in his rhetoric about "Change" yet are blind to the fact that already, 2 months after the election, he has changed many of his ideas and will not follow through on many of his promises (most of which I believe will/would have harmed our economy and country) Yet he still plans on doing things that I can only see as harmful for us as a nation. But in a world were "Style" over shadows "Substance" many people seem to worship Obama as if he is the second coming. As the President of the United States I give my full support and hope and pray he will do things that only help our country but unfortunately I just don't see it happening.

So for our American members how do you feel about this historical event today? What are your feelings about Obama and his promise of "Change"? And for our other members what do you see for Obama in the next 4 years and what are your feelings on the man and his future presidency.

Either way it truly is a historical event and though I feel this extravagant spectacle of an Inauguration is a prime example of wasting government money (were the "Change" in our economically troubled times?) due in part to his "Messiah-like" image I do see and feel the importance of today.

Good point, lol, Clinton does claim he was the first Black President lol. Only shows how much of a control the dems have over the black voter. But regardless of Clinton, this still is the first African-American president. Clinton was the first Hillbilly Redneck president.

Well, personally I can't see how he can be worse than Bush so it's an improvement but he has been put on a pedestal and the expectations are extremely high and I doubt anybody could live up to them... So good luck to him but I suspect after the initial honeymoon period the right-wing press will turn on him.

So I'm not being pessimistic, I like to think of it as realistic optimism

There should be a law enacted by Congress that requires "Won't Get Fooled Again" to be played at every Presidential Inauguration.

that is how I feel every election: "Meet the New Boss, The same as the Old Boss" This one being no different. I don't hold high hopes for what he can/can't do in the next 4 years, mostly because our shit is so fucked he won't be able to impact most of it, even if he did stick to all his promises.

I am indeed sick of all those who want to rejoice and celebrate like the Munchkins of OZ because Bush is gone and Obama the good has gained control. The touchy, feel good shit is going to hit them harder when things don't quite work out the way they believe.

I just wish NPR would talk about something else today... for fuck's sakes, he talked for about 15 minutes, I don't need to hear it repeated for the rest of the fucking day.

Don't get me wrong, if I voted for one of the two parties, I would've voted Obama, he seems to at least say the right things, but even if my third party candidate had won, I wouldn't want to hear about it all fucking day.

He may be president of the US, but he's still not my president. I won't have a president until we get one that doesn't say "god bless america" or swear in on a bible. So probably never in my lifetime.

Are we talking about that black bloke that's gonna save the world during his term as the first black bloke to live in a white house?

If so, is the world doomed?

Which is a small, tiny, tiny, tiny part of the whole (liberal) Media. In fact outside of the number 3 radio talk show hosts (which I always found interesting and yes I listen to all 3) FNC is about the only one and even they seem to be somewhat in awe of "Obamweh".

Yeah it will be fun to see what happens after the honymoon is over (say 3 to 4 months from now)

Oh and it was reported today that here in the states the TARP didn't work. And looks like your PM over there in the UK is looking to bail your banks out again just like we have to (again). Jesus were all fucked...

Looks like you both got your wish:

If you notice no bible in the picture and according to other news sources no bible was used in his "official" swearing in (after Roberts flubbed the first one requiring them to do it over again) Contrary to popular belief the bible is not required under the Constitution for swearing in to public office.

The first week is not even over and already Obama has made some dumb choices (some of his admin nominees are idiots) bad executive orders (close Gitmo?!?!) and a faux pas with the press (hence the only proof of the second swear in is the picture above, he totally blew off the rest of the press corp lol). Oh this is gonna be a fun 4 years!
