American sports

What is it with American sports ..here's an English eye view..
Nascar load of rednecks driving cars in a circle for ever........big deal.
Baseball........ in England we call it rounders and no-one over nine plays it.
Basketball.......in England we call it netball and only schoolgirls and nerdy women play it.
American football.........Got naff all to do with feet ,all the players are ponced up with padding nothing more than girlie rugby.
And why's it played in four quarters..I'll tell you why, its so all the podgers that watch it can eat between times and watch adverts for their next meal while their at it.

This thread is a racist thread, and I will continue that fashion.

Nascar is for the Hillbilly's, Go down south its very popular, I fucking hate it.

Baseball is mainly for kids so they can collect the cards.

Basketball is mainly for the Black people, lol. I like it and don't mind watching or attempting to play even though I'm fat and I suck at it. It's not a girly sport as you Brits might want to think.

I've watched enough Rugby to know which is much rougher, I guess since you've not taken to time to understand it or stupid enough to want to get your head beat in constanty the gear is 100% necessary. What makes it so rough is the tackels, it's a lot more constant than in Rugby, and I am in no way saying Rugby isn't very rough because it is.

I've personally known people who play Rugby and American Football and according to all of them American Football is rougher so I'd take there opinion over someone who really doesn't have a clue.

I don't understand Golf because it's not a sport. It's an activity.

For you foreign members, that's our Major League Soccer over here. And my hometown team won last year's championship. So "football" is some what a big deal to some here locally. Can't say I follow them as much as football but I did keep up with the Crew somewhat this season and have been to a few games in the past. And oh yeah, played it all four years of high school and in intermurials at college (plus fraternity team)

Nascar is only exciting when a bad accident occurs. Otherwise it is pretty damn boring most of the time. The beer's usually nice and cold though.

Baseball is more about getting outside for a few hours and enjoying the weather while overpaid "athletes" chase a ball around. Can't tell you how many times I got a serious buzz from drinking a shitload of beer at Tiger games (Detroit's MLB team) during all 9 innings (come extra innings!)

Basketball, at least pro ball, requires some major athletic ability and you have to be in great condition to play at the pro level. Just try running up and down the court for a good 45 minutes and see how you feel afterward. Played it during Junior High and city league as well as with friends all the time in High School (had a half court at my house)

Gezzer I'll take it you haven't been around long enough to remember a thread about american football versus rugby. I played both, football was in high school and fraternity league including winter league playing in 2 feet of snow while rugby in city park league and fraternity league. And I can tell you that while rugby was rougher in the sense of hitting and such football was tougher physically due impart to hitting much harder with pads on. Both have their appeal and both are fun to watch and play.

As for the 4 quarters, I can't tell you why, been like that as long as I've known as probably as far back as the beginning of the game. To arse to google it I'll leave that up to you.

the long term injury is mostly due to how the athletes treat their bodies from the time they start playing high school sports up until the day they get all the cartilage sucked out through a straw and replaced with teflon. id dare say the amount of injuries sustained directly from contact in game is staggeringly low. you have 16 year olds pushing 220LBs running 40s in under 5.0 and they havent peaked yet. Most peoples bodies arent set up for this regardless of size/fitness/etc especially at that age.

that being said american football sucks. if i wanted to watch commercials... well id watch american football but you get my point.
