Gambling And Sports Betting
Seemed to be a fair bit of interest in this topic so time to start a dedicated thread I think.
Whats peoples views on tonights Champions league semi final between Manchester United and Arsenal?
I always find these games tough to call, they don't usually play out like a typical premier league game. For that reason I have so far just put on a few low stake high odds bets.
Rio Ferdinand first goal.
Mancester United to be winning in the first half and Arsenal to come back and win it in the second half and a score cast, Van Persie to score first, final score (over 90 minutes) 1-0 to Arsenal. Put about 3 quid on each of those, wins range from £70 - £102.
Not expecting to win anything but like I said, these games can be so random.
Lol, just checked the scores.
GOAL: Arsenal 0-2 Man Utd: Ronaldo (11)
GOAL: Arsenal 0-1 Man Utd: Park (8)
Only bet I have that is still valid is
"Mancester United to be winning in the first half and Arsenal to come back and win it in the second half"
Come on L'Arse, pull one back before half time and its well possible.
I'd give up forecasting champions league games if I was you.
tomorrow night Chelsea 2 Barcelona 1 Drogba first goal 0-0 at half time.

Yep, so difficult to predict. As an Arsenal fan, I was well up for the game tonight and was drawn into the hype that we were going to perform.
11 minutes gone and it was all over! Unlucky with the first, and keeper should have done better for the free kick, although saying that, Ronaldo (Cunt!) does hit them!
It was another example of men against boys, just like the FA Cup semi final against Chelsea.
Tomorrow night : Chelsea to win 1-0

£10 stake

Better to post the bets you make before the games are done, then others can bet too.
I had Millwall, Man United, Chelsea and Liverpool too but for some reason I thought Aston Villa had shook off their bad form so I added them on the bet too, they got smacked by Fulham yesterday.
I got one more bet on for tomorrow, Middlesborough to be winning against Newcastle in the first half and Newcastle to win it in the Second half. £5 @ 22/1
It was the featured bet on betfair again m8

Can you guys recommend any software for making up the odds on accumulators, doubles, trebles etc? I've been using something called Settler for ages. I've never used Betfair. They probably have something.

Less than 30mins gone and another goal starts the profit curve (1-1 at the moment). But, even if there are no further goals I still don't lose
Free money! There's nothing better

Previous post screenshot is split into two halves: on the right are the bets I've placed, on the left are the current odds available (with the left half of the screenshot itself split with one side showing the current 'Back' odds and 'Lay' odds).
betfair allows you to back for something to happen (which is the same as any bookie): in the screenshot, on the right side, I've backed for there to be 3-or-more goals @2.09 for £40 which I did just before kickoff. (Both teams were desperate for the win, there was a fair chance they'd be throwing caution to the wind in search of goals.)
By the 10th minute of the game there'd already been 2 goals, the odds on there being 3 goals in the game then tumbled to about 1.09.
betfair also allows you to back against something happening, called 'laying'. Once the odds had tumbled I then backed against being 3 or more goals for £40 @1.12.
By backing an event and then backing against it for the same stake I've basically cancelled my stake money in the bet, I have no liabilities. If I'd backed for and against at the same odds I'd have cancelled my participation in the event altogether and stood to win nothing and lose nothing.
But I didn't. I backed for at large odds and backed against at smaller odds.
2.09 - 1.12 = 0.97
Effectively I got a bet on there being 3 or more goals for £40 @0.97 for free. There was no way I could lose anything: if there were fewer than 3 goals then I wouldn't have won or lost anything.
All of the bets in blue (on the righthand side of the screenshot) I placed just before kickoff. All the bets in pink below it (at smaller odds, backing against) I did just after the second goal went in. You'll see that I matched the stakes, so I had no possibility of losing anything by the 10th minute of the game.
It's possible to do the above all the way through a game such that no matter what the result you win! Here's one I did from Man City's UEFA run a few weeks back and it's the same as I (try to!) do every weekend. (Obviously a different type of bet but the same principles apply: back for something to happen at large odds, back against the same thing happening (lay) at small odds.)
In the above, if there are more than 2.5 goals in the game I win £62...and if there are less than 2.5 goals in the game I win £62...no lose betting! Fucking fantastic!

The top 4 in the premiership to win is 9/1 this weekend. Any thoughts? Chelsea and Man U seem dodgy though. They might play weakened teams with big games coming up.

9/1 ain't bad at all. William Hill puts it at 7.7/1 in an accumulator.
I'm toying with this 5 fold, adding Blackburn to beat West Brom at home to the top 4 takes it to 15/1

Fortunately I took Blackburn off my accumulator and just went for the top 4 plus Rangers for around 13/1
I also had a few cheeky scorecasts on the Liverpool game, 2 quid on Torres first goal and 3-1 result at 22/1.
As usual I took most of my winnings out and left a tenner in the account, which I have just put on Gordon Strachan becoming Sunderlands next Manager. Odds are now 6/1. Sunderlands more Irish than the Irish National team, it stands to reason they will hire either an Irish national or an Irish sympathiser, Strachan more than fits the bill on that count with his Celtic connections and fiery red hair and I can't think of any other Irish contender, they've already been through Mick McCarthy, Niall Quinn and Roy Keane in the last 5 years. No matter how much Niall Quinn would like to, I can't see him bringing David O'leary out of retirement, although if William Hill were offering odds on him I would have a small bet on him too.
Theres zero chance that Martin O'Neill would go to them so thats just leaving Scottish/Celtic Strachan.
So, Gordon Strachan for the next Sunderland Manager, what do you think?
edit:: David O'leary has just been added to William Hills at 33/1
Got to be worth a fiver.
Steve Bruce is still the big favourite at 1/2 with Slaven Bilic second favourite, any betting against those 2 is a risk but fuck it, I'm a gambler and i'm betting Niall Quinn won't be able to resist whoring up his Irish connections.

Yeah I just read that too. Just been to Will Hill to see if the odds on him have gone down and they've stopped taking bets altogether.
I hope thats a good sign, I have £38 on him in total. (£2 went on David O'Leary lol)
Edit:: Checked on Paddy Power, they are offering Strachan now at only 4/6... And David O'Leary at 100/1. Svens Climbed the list at 4/1 and Steve Bruce is now second favourite (behind Strachan) at 5/6
Ahh, looks like its gonna be Steve Bruce. Hopefully Wigan will do all they can to hold on to him though.
Should know by tomorrow one way or the other.
