True thats why this is all down to personal opinions.

i refuse to do these things, as its impossible to compare across genre, across budget limitations, countries, rewatchability etc..

how do you compare a film like say.. Tape (1 room, 3 actors, very low budget) to something like Minority Report (huge sets, tons of actors, massive budget) [recent examples] both were great films but im not going to rack my head about thinkin which is better.

i might just list 10 films i really like later, rather than sayin "this is my definitive list of the greatest movies i've ever seen"

I can't do this. There's no way I can list 10 in order, cause they'll be differant next week.

So heres 10 movies I really loved in no particular order:

Star Wars trilogy
Evil Dead 3 Army of Darkness
Braveheart
Platoon
Stand By Me
Mallrats
Highlander
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Se7en
The Usual Suspects

ok I know theres more than 10 there but fuck it!

I also had to leave out Apocolypse Now, Godfather 1 + 2, Rocky 1,2 and 4, Back to the Future, Raging Bull , Taxi Driver , Easy Rider, Aliens, Predator, Shawshank Redemption, Dead Poets Society, Armageddon, Ed Wood, It's A Wonderful Life, Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino, Big Trouble in Little China and Pulp Fiction.

But they got an honourable mention anyway!

I've still got a hangover. No drinking tonight!

English Patient was good, but as you can see it didn't make my Top10. Now when i was watching From Dusk Till Dawn all i saw was another carbon copy of every single action/vampire movie that i had ever seen. Nothing really original, excessive gore, even to the point where it's not needed. This movie didn't contain any original elements, nor did it once really make me think. Movies that i prefer are either ones that tackle real life issues in original ways that really make you rethink daily activities in life, or movies that at least make you think in the shoes of the protagonist/antagonist. I find the best movies are usually dripping with realistic human emotion. Films like Punch-Drunk Love from P.T Anderson, or Nicholas Nickleby are nice example of an original, funny take on love, that actually makes you want to become the main characters. As for The English Patient, Road to Perdition and it fit in the same category. In my opinion, both movies try too hard to get award recognition. This is one thing i simply cannot stand in a movie, especially from Tom Hanks' character in Road to Perdition. The character is just unrealistic, a bad guy with a heart of gold, please spare me. Well, i'm done rambling for now.

I thought english patient and road to perdition sucked too as a matter of fact.
But i like binoche espically in damage, unbearabel lightness of being and my favorite is three colours blue which was badass. shes hot. choclate sucked too i thought jonny pepps corny but that cinimon drink looked good.

And i agree that tom hanks usually hams it up more often than not, he would of been great in that role of the child rapist in the movie happiness tho, wouldnt you agree sevenbob?

And i think dusk till dawn was really good up intill they got to the bar where the vamps were drinken. just got too campy for me at that point. But remember that scene with harvy kitell in the movie I think it called the bad cop where he pulls these two chic's over for speeding and rather than give them a ticket he wanks off thru the car window. Now that was funny! cum to think of it i gotta get a copy of that.

No, i dont think you can list your ten favorites of all time, or at any rate, it would not be a permanent list. All the things you learn from day to day can not help but alter your opinions on everything you've seen thus far.

And you can compare films across genres with different budgets. Its easy, you just take into account what the filmmaker was working with, and how the end product affected you.

For example:

Donnie Darko was not the best movie ive ever seen, but considering that its Richard Kellys first effort with a mostly unknown cast(at the time), it then becomes more interesting to me.

Considering how moved i was at some of the scenes, that the story itself was truly intelligent, and that without special effects he was able to frighten the shit out of me.

i have to give him more respect than i would give Stanley Kubrick for Full Metal Jacket, which is one of my favorite movies.

see how that works?

Anyway, my top ten at the moment, and i mean this very moment . . .

3-The Pianist (The Definative Holocost Movie, SCREW SHINDLER)

those are all movies from like the last three years

last three years? those are all within the last few weeks...

it's sad to see people who believe that every movie that they watch is one of the best, if you like the garbage because critics like it then you are sad.

if you want a good movie, i agree with warewulf, Dr. Strangelove. Great movie.

Another good movie is Texas Chainsaw Massacre, i forgot about it in my list, but it's one of my favorites.

Now Interstate 60 is also a good movie i'd like to mention, if you like weird movies, go for it.
