I gotta agree with 'Realized'
I really hate timers, and this one is only a tiny bit better than the VideoCD TS. I recommend going for that instead

ticker

How many TCs have screener messages and time tickers on them?? Looks like a screener to me.

the NFO says 9 days, not 2.

Sweet release, can these guys ever screw up?

7/8/7.5

I have already seen the cam/ts of this release, so I will compare this tc to them. The video is much better than the other releases, the only fault that I can see in it is the time code, but thats no big deal. The audio is excellent (now I have only listened to it through stock stereo speakers thus far) and I don't see how it could be improved on.

Overall, I give this release 8/8/7

They really shoulda went SVCD on this.

Reasons Why:

1. The Pixelation would have drastically reduced by the higher resolution.

2. SVCD's seem to be more stable with less glitches than VCD 1 and 2.0's.

but thats just my 420 cents

1. The pixelation would have been WORSE because it would have been blown up

2. uhm... isn't(Besides for like home made recorded crap) vcd 1.0 dead?

Nice enough release. A little blocky and blurred, but prolly from a 2nd maybe 3rd gen source.

Audio is a smidge on the low side. Movie looks funny-ish, gonna watch the whole thing now.

Overall, nice stuff.

7/7/X

Depending on the actually source this could be an amazing SVCD, but since they are putting it onto VCD I am going to assume its a VHS or shitty source... but I don't trust VideoCD's encoding skills, their releases tend to have mad pixelation, and alot of motion blur. Thats IMO

nice movies
nice quality

Posted by Heflink on 04-22-2003 09:34 AM:

Great quality.. I've been holding out for this..

I'd give it a good 7/8/6...

Posted by faYth on 04-23-2003 03:18 AM:

imo this movie sucked. i saw it in the theatres. all of you are giving it 8 and 9's. i give it like a 5. i just didnt like it. it didnt keep me laughing. now dysFUNKtional family was funny.. ohh yeah as to the release. this is an awsome release. the quality of the tc's have been getting up to screener quality. 8/7/5

ok, i just rewatched this. i think i am a retard because i never noticed the messages. this has to be a screener. this looks like all of videocds screeners and they all have the same messages... are they tcs or are they all screeners?

looks good..hate that timer but hell this is the best looking version yet

8/8/6

solid release. i pretty much got used to the timer a few minutes in, and the video looked above average on my tv.

one thing that was bad was the sound though..i had to turn my volume WAY up to hear the movie properly, and also had to adjust my surround sound settings.

but..this movie was bad. adam sandler movies are usually hilarious and im a huge fan of jack nicholson, but come on...i expected alot better.

anyways, still a good release, thanks VideoCd.

plenty of them do. even workprints often have the screener-type messages, and as for the SMPTE timecode, a TC is actually MORE likely to have them than a screener (people who say "ha ha how do you get a timecode on a direct-from-film transfer" have no clue. the SMPTE is easily added during the telecining process, and any professional telecine machine will have this functionality. hell, i've got the ability to add an SMPTE signal on my svhs player.).

once again, for those constantly arguing about whether releases are TC's or screeners:

many of the "scene" classifications are not treated as such in the industry; there's a lot of overlap between catagories. most if not all workprints are also TC's; many TC's are also screeners, and vice versa. arguing about whether these guys' source is TC or SCR is pointless, since they're easily considered either one, or even both. that being the case, naturally they will call it whatever happens to be most convenient for them at the time.

what SHOULD be differentiated, however, but aren't, are SVHS TC's. these have potentially much better quality than the VHS variety, and IMO are more deserving of encode to SVCD than are the SVCD TS's we see all the time.

thanks for sorting everything out lo.pro. its hard to realize that this tc was probably made for promotional purposes. i always thought they were done by the same people that do the cams and ts's but i guess they are done by the critics and someone got their hands on it. sorry for this post not really having to do with the release. oh yeah i watched the movie for the 4th time and it got funnier. maybe thats just becuase its 2:30 in the morning and im stoned. i now give it a 8 cubed (8/8/8)

Posted by brr8760 on 04-23-2003 09:06 PM:

Only a minor improvement from the two previous, high-quality releases. With the addition of a sizeable counter (is it SOOO hard to black-bar those things???? Damn, a counter is always moving, a black bar is stable), it's actually a wash. Overly pixelated. But, one day soon, I think VideoCD will save the day with a major release that doesn't have two other good versions already out.

An embarrassment of riches. (6/7/7)

Sadly I think the colors in VideoCD's TS were as good as this release. CTP's was actually better for colors, but hated the angle on CTP. This has the counter and that bugs some people, as do the msgs and b+w. Don't bother me though. I think the movie was funny but forgettable. IMO the VideoCD TS is a better copy to keep for right now cause it's really about the same as this TC without the counter.

Bad quality on my standalone, the sample was really decieving. GREAT QUALITY sample! Shitty quality overall encode, heavily pixelated/blurry/ghosting. I also think the deinterlacing method they used sucks or it's just a bad source. The movie was decent, ending was disappointing, sound was great. 6/8/8
