yeah, i still dont understand how

1. DVDR would make it look better. surely it could've been ripped to SVCD over VCD, but it wasn't, so just sticking something on a DVDR makes no difference.

2. how a DVDROM makes any difference to being able to create a DVD-R release. you can make DVDR releases without the use of a DVDROM.

3. how owning a DVDROM gives you instant access to DVDR releases which is what mystic was talking about.

4. why someone who doesn't own a DVDRW would want a DVDR release.

im sorry, it doesn't take a genius to demux/resample/remux a few cds and author it themselves, but it lets people with both DVDR and CD burners enjoy a release.

*cough*choke*cough* HAHAHAHAHA oki, for one, I REALLY got to know how have a dvdrom will help you capture a Laserdisc. You do know that laserdisc are the size of old records, ie diameter is close to a foot. I normally don't respond but this was funny and no offense and all but that is the stupidest comment I have seen in awhile. Just so you know, as someone said, tasty_calyx, you capture LD like a VHSrip, ie LD hooked to video in and you capture it. but thanks you made me laugh for a good 5 minutes.

your joking with this right? cause nowhere in my post does it say that owning a dvdrom enables you to capture a LD. All i said was why not capture and convert to dvdr instead of shitty vcd, and i know you can convert the 7 cds to dvdr but who wants that shitty format on dvdr? not me.

because, as already stated, a lot more people have CD writers than DVD writers!

until dvd writers replace cdwriters, then the most common format will always be CD based.

your kidding me right ? , id rather go buy the film for 19 bucks, or rent it and dvdr it myself, the movie sucked though, not one of michael j fox's best at all, might as well be up there with life with mikey, but the documentary isnt on the dvd, so thats cool, im sure a special edition may come, may not, laserdisc is kinda cool for that offers some different options on stuff, anyhow, quality is nice, just dont see the point...a true collector would buy it....later

jezus.. the stupidity of the masses numbs me

the obvious point to this release.. is the rarity of it.... u cant go down to blockbuster and rent this rare laserdisc w/ its equally rare 4 hour documentary

and for this item ... its nto 20 bucks... its much much more. so THINK a lil...

and as for VCD being a shit format... ur stupid.. ur wrong... and i wish certain death upon u. VCD has its purpose

i fucking loved this movie.. of course i pretty much love anything that peter jackson touches.. and id love to download this release if i had the HD space for it.. unemployment=lack of cdr's=2 free gigs out of 80..

vcd is a shitty format? why would one say that.. vcd is an awesome format.. and whoever says otherwise is just a spoiled little centropy whore

true, not everyone can afford a dvd burner...the average person would buy a cd burner than a dvd burner b/c of their knowledge of svcds......(and what not..)

makes sense.......if more companies made cd/dvd combo burners(to bring down prices).....then it can replace ordinary cd burners and all ya can be satified with the releases...

i think he means the cd burners that can read dvd's also, a dvdrom/cdrw combo unit. but that still does explain why someone would want to down load a dvdr which is an image of a dvd which you need to burn with a dvd writer. because otherwise you can just mount it with daemon tools or something and watch it that way.

nah..

i mean both a dvdrw/cdrw combo...(6 in 1)

(can burn dvds and cds..)

i know plextor makes them but they are really expensive..(like around 300 bucks)..(also toshiba)

maybe in a few years..every company will start producing dvdrw/cdrw combos (and they might compete, (trying to produce faster write speeds) and it might lower down prices..

i know it wont happen..but its a dream..

Isn't there a way to transfer the Dolby digital track from a LD to a computer so that you can make a dvd/divx with the original sound? My biggest complaint with VCD and SVCD is that you can't get 6 channel surround. VCD also has very low resolution, especially on a 2.35:1 movie like The Frighteners.

Some LD players have an AC3 RF output.
