And I'll be back to gloat when the retail comes out with cgi interactive menus, dts, and extras. This thing doesnt even have so much as a trailer, or fake vobs to show maybe something should be there, I seen better STV menus then this. If you believe this is retail, then pHo, I'll never let you forget you said that. If I'm wrong, I'll never doubt you again. It's a bet.

Max Bit rate is set at encoding time and you can set it too whatever you like, I personally would have gone with 9.8MBps but hell I didn't rip the disk.

Well I got this bitch dloaded yesterday and wrote it off using RecordNow Max,no probs wotsoever.I would say it is deffo some Rental DVD,I've ripped loads of em from the local DVD rental shop n they all have had really boring front ends, yawnsville arizona type thangs. The quality of this release is brilliant,so wot if the menu sux,I for one really don't give a shit,I'll wait to buy the real retail before I start complaining about something that cost me next to nothing to download.

.gi files

Just a quick mention for those that don't have RecordNow Max or Prassi. You can use DVD Decrypter to write .gi files, simply goto Settings/Registry n set the prog to accept all file types, sorted.

magik, you almost answered my question

If I just burn the .gi with Prassi I shouldn't have a problem, right?

nice one esvcd, the .gi issue is nothing to worry about - keep up the good work!

Streetpreacher,

You will have no problem burning the *.gi files with Prassi. It is probably the program the group used to make the *.gi files in the first place.

no DTS = no 5.1 channel sound?

Posted by tony532 on 08-12-2003 12:40 AM:

no mate will still have digital 5.1 sound on it. digital theatre system sound is 24bits compared to 18bit of dolby digital. takes up about 3 times more space than a dolby digital soundtrack.

have a look here if the link still works

Matrix will never have DTS on it. Warner Brothers which is the company releasing it does not support DTS on their Dvd's. They tried with a couple of titles a few years ago but did not continue to support it. The only ones released with dts through Warner are morgan creek prouductions I believe and even then there are only a couple of them out. I'd be suprised if this is not retail/rental copy. I have a rather large screen and this looks too good to be anything else. Very sharp even though it must have been downsampled. Makes me wonder what the original is gonna look like when they use a dvd-9.

Wait.... so in Europe, are there two different DVDs. One for purchasing, and one for rental, and the menu and everything is different?

Posted by velocity3k on 08-12-2003 04:37 PM:

This is a pre-retail dvd, the menus will look exactly the same on the retail dvd that is going to come out in october, if you don't believe me go to dvdanswers.com and check out the screenshots they have from the retail dvd, they are identical.

This is a downsampled version of the final dvd, the video quality will obviously be better on the final retail dvd. The retail, will not come with "cgi interactive menus" or "dts" tracks. WB rarely release a movie with DTS tracks, Twister is the only movie i can think of, that had a DTS track and it hit 1056kb/s at peaks. The extras are on the second dvd, but it is nothing compared to the "matrix:revisited" DVD.

hmm so the Trailer for Revolutions right at the end of the titles doesnt count eh...

Like said above, the .gi files arent a problem... burn the image with PrimoDVD as a global image, it works a treat. As for the copy? Quality

AWSOME RELEASE!! I'm so glad my dvd player plays PAL!

GREAT JOB!!

Posted by RMF on 08-13-2003 11:15 AM:

God, i can't believe that people are moaning about this release. The quality is superb, and the menu is fine as far as i'm concerned. Also, there are plenty of movies which use scenes from the movie in their menu's. If you like i could rattle off a very long list.

Also, why moan about it not having any trailers when any extra video on the disc other than whats there now would degrade the quality of the film?

Props to ESVC, this is a great release. 9/9/9

Some people have forgot that the retail is a DVD-9, whereas what we have downloaded is a downsampled version. Therefire quality will never as good as a retail version.

I think I may have been a tad misleading with my last post,I was simply saying that in the UK most dvd's released come in 2 flavas,Retail and Rental, the latter having no extras etc.
I certainly wasn't complaining about the quality of this release,as I stated in an earlier post, the quality is brilliant, and yes Props should go to esvcd for their great work.
And I totally agree with RMF,people shouldn't be moaning about it,it was free, well near as damn free,I recently bought "I spit on your grave" and the quality of that was atrocious. The sodding thing was jumping backwards and forwards thru the film, totally unwatchable,it wasn't my player nor the disc,it was the actual transcode that had gone wrong and nobody bothered to check it before it went on release, well that's what they told me anyway.I payed good dosh for that 1,and I DID have a legitimate complaint.
Unlike any of us that download these things for basically peanuts,of course the majority of people complaining could probably do a better job than the groups that release them, but because they are sat in here moaning on about practically every(free) release, thay haven't got the time to go out and do something about them.Wake up people, next thing is you'll be complaing that the bastards don't provide the coke and popcorn for you along with your free film.

Bit of a waffle that,my next book will be released by Penguin on the 22nd of August, that is unless some group gets hold of it first n forgets to add an extra chapter that was never there in the first place so everyone can have a good old freakin moan about it!

You should see the bought copy of Donnie Darko that i have. It's terrible. It's like a very badly encoded divx film. I can't believe that they can get away with releasing crap like that for people to buy. Oh...and my original of Snatch is pretty bad aswell.
