I will make this short and simple..

This is a waste of fucking time...stop posting shit like this on vcdquality. This movie deserves a post of a dvdrip or some type of good screener. Its much more worthy than this garbage.

A waste of peoples time and interest.

Interesting, but entirely unnecessary. What's next, GBA, GP32, PocketPC, Palm, etc., releases? I hope to Christ not. This better not start a trend.

You can find one here to dl,

It's funny to watch on a PC but wonder how it looks on the phone ,this one's for the Nokia,

No no no no no! Packet Video 3gp stuff is CRAP. Nokias are NOT smartphones... if you want a phone with multimedia capability get a MS Smartphone, like the samsung i600, mott mpx200, orange spv e200, etc. Then run the Smartphone operating system (windows ce). My samsung i600 has a 200 mhz cpu. I have PocketMVP installed (pocket music and video player) which was originally called PocketDivX, and changed names once it started supporting mpeg, mp3, ogg, etc. There is also PocketTV which is freeware and is a great MPEG player. I prefer divx and use PocketMVP on my phone and pocket pcs.

Packet Video is CRAP quality. Absolutely CRAP. There is a Packet Video player for smartphone so I thought I would test it out and see what nokia users have. IT just completely sucks... its more like watching a slideshow then a video. I played it back on my computer too, and will confirm it sucked just as much there. The technology is a$$.

Check out #pocketmovies on efnet. Its not lame "groups" releasing movies but people like you and me that encode their own movies to watch on their Smartphones and Pocket PCs.

And to continue my pitch on Smartphones, it has Pocket Internet Explorer so you can surf regular websites (not just wap, mobile phone crap sites). You cn sign onto instant messenger (AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc). Its windows, so it can multitask... i listen to mp3's while i surf the net, chat, email, and text message. Its even got the cpu power to run an NES emulator and play all my favorite NES games

I was at the theatre friday night and was there half an hour early so I busted out the phone and watched an episode of the Simpsons (DIVX!!!!!). IT definitely caused a lot of chatter in the rows behind me

Okay, I must admit that this is somewhat interesting, but honestly, who is going to sit and stare at their phone to watch a 3.5hr movie? Releases such as this are entirely unnecessary. Anyways, the RotK screener was shipped to academy members on Jan. 2nd (dvd or vhs is unknown), so we can expect a release sometime soon. OBUS said they had some 'surprises' for us, so you never know.

There are entire scenes dedicated to pocketpc reencodes. there are many irc channels an a few newsgroups... or you could reencode. And they are great... i most reencode dvdrips or screeners to divx and they look nothing short of stunning, plus pda = 16:9 on it's side (or mine does)

Can't imagine films on a phone thought... as the pda is pushing it for screen size!

I personally don't think this should be on here though. Either start a section for mobile movie encodes or get them off, as they are just reencodes after all. It's nothing new.

Yes, being a honda enthusiast and driving a crx makes me a ricer

Those pocket pc encodes will work on a Smartphone, though it still isnt optimized (the larger resolution means it has to resive in software).

Encoding is easy... just use VirtualDUB and encode to divx with mp3 audio. Tweak the sttings to you achieve the results you desire (file size to quality ratio). Smartphone screen res is 176 x 220. Rotate in the encode! This way the software doesnt need to do it and slow everything down.

More of these should come about for those who can't do it themselves; but they should really learn how.
When compressing to a smaller screen, the quality wouldn't deteriorate, it'd stay the same, or get a bit better since it's not being stretched out. I'm really thinking of getting a phone with this feature for that alone. It'd come in handy during class

that would be no perceivable loss in video quality .. and to some people

this IS getting a bit interesting, tho. i think they should try VP6 .. it's pretty damn impressive

I would hope that they don't get any interference when they transfer it. Transfering a 100MB over Irda or Bluetooth would take a significant amount of time to a Nokia phone, or anything for that matter.

Alrighty peeps,

heres the lowdown,

Nokia series 60 fones (n gage, 6600, 3650) have realplayer as standard (for RM files) and you can download PV Player which plays 3GP files.

Basically the quality depends on the source - First off cartoons are the most watchable - films are fine - not great though.

The best films to watch are comedy's ect without fast action sequences because the frame rate is just not good enough for fast moving scenes - Kill bill is unwatchable whilst i watched the dvd rip of Bruce almighty re-encoded to .RM and it was perfectly watchable. I have the .RM file of ROTK but i havent even tried to watch it. You must remember that the screen size is only 2 inch square at the most. Watched a dvd rip of "Predator" on the train last night and that too was great, other films i watched on my n gage are - SWAT, the italian Job and brother bear - all worth watching - i tried to watch the encode of 2 fast 2 furious but that was a waste of time.

They definately are not a waste of time but i agree that the shouldnt be posted on vcdq. It really depends on your opinion really - i spend 4 hours a day on the train so its great for me because i would get beaten up in no time if i had a portable dvd player but nobody bats an eyelid with my n gage.

I would reccomend it really

4 hours a day on a train and u spend it off watching movies off your phone? OH boy, id rather be picking up strange good looking women off the train and mingle with them rather then look at a 2x2 movie display.... pfft the media is overpowering our egos i tell ya!!

Posted by junkets on 01-14-2004 02:54 AM:

WTF

Why am I even seeing this on vcdquality? I don't mean to bitch, however, when I saw this my heart leapt. I thought:

SCREENER....it must be. Why would anyone else post anything else after logistic?

This kinda stuff is bad for the heart. Little nokiaboy could have at least used the best TS to re-encode this. Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong.

I agree.......

If you can't figure out how to use a simple encoding program and do this yourself, you shouldn't even be allowed to download movies. Smartphones, color phones, phones that play games, take pictures, and all that crap are really pointless. Lets see, get several devices that each serve their purpose very well, or pay more for one device that does everything, only much worse...

So why do I see that !#($@# on the donkey saying:
