that scene along with quite a few others were for the special editions released in 97...

Hmm,there were rumours that Lucas may have gone back to do yet MORE tinkering with the dvd releases,so if anyone has managed to get this yet,it`ll be interesting to see if you can post any differences(with spoiler tags of course!).

Based on sample

Why is this getting low ratings... I just burned to disc, and its very nice dvdscr or dvdrip. Doesn't matter this is a nice release the sound and pic are nice.
Some people are just arrogant and know it alls! Forget all the technical mambo jumbo. If LucasArts does this or that. Nice release by this EM Group.

nope there's nothing extra in any of the 3 movies theyre the "special editions" we saw from 97. But the extras disk is quite feature packed with some nice tidbits on episode 3. and for the LAST time LUCASFILM DOESNT PRODUCE SCREENERS, and more so the trilogy is being distributed as a complete 4 dvd box set. I asked about this today, because i can from my line of work, and the box set hasnt even been sent out to reviewers yet so excuse me from being sceptical about the validity of this rls. Lucas apparantly isnt letting this go out for review til the last minute because of the content on the extras disk. And the possibility of it ending up on the net before it hits stores. Its possible someone nabbed a dvd from the pressing plant...but i'm sceptical. Anyways since i only have the VHS original version box set and the VHS spec edition box set, i think i'll be skipping the downloads and just buy it

From Sample

Compareable to the original LaserDisk copies that I have of all three movies.

Nothing to see here, move along.

seems nothing much in the film was changed from the SE release. Greedo shoots first, Jabba is still looks rough and gets treated like a punk.

it does look like all the lightsaber effects and frame jumps have been addressed, for instance, when OB1 is fighting Vader you cant see the "stick" in his saber. Han shooting Greedo still looks unnatural, but oh well.

when this DVD set comes out, i think i am going to pass, just not enough to it to warrant not renting them. sucks it takes way too long to make a star wars film considering its 2004, because its possible production on Episode 3 took away from this DVD release. its just kind of the generic treatment for these films, i was expecting something like the Alien Quadrilogy set.

was anything supposed to be changed? i think not. this is exactly the way we knew the dvd would be.

Posted by BruceBanna on 05-15-2004 10:55 AM:

I think this is just the old laserdisc SE rips. It's not that sharp.
The new versions are supposed to feature at least a new Jabba using the 3D models created for episode 1. There are plently of official information regarding the new changes for the DVDs this autumn, and this release is not it.

that's right....

this version of $tar War$ + DVD = generic.

remember this is from what .. 77 ? i would more likely to see a total remake of ep 4-6 (new actors etc etc , special effects and so on). Because little things like the moving attack thingys (big robots) just look ugly (for today)

Posted by iamgreen on 05-16-2004 08:33 AM:

sure hope the red boxes around the tie fighters when fighting the mellenium falconare finially gone.

All these posts and everyone has failed to mention how the real quality is, so here it is

Video - Looks good, on the bad side, NO ALIEN SUBS. For that it gets a 7

Audio - What's this only 192k, bah not scene standards. Raise the audio to 224 and no more undersized disc 3. I give it an 8

Movie - Waht a simple good vs. evil plot, with some great circa 1977 special effects. Loved it as a kid, love it now - 10

This is an excellent DVD copy, can't get any better in my opinion until the actual DVD-R release.

This appears to be an encode of the LD rips (As some said ealier) these have been floating around for years. I'd get the LD rips of the original trilogy (Prespecial edition) they're a little better quality without all the shit Lucas did to ruin them.

This is one release I would be avoiding anyways but I can never resist a sample.

Actually, there will be quite a few changes to the DVDs released in September.

Over at TheDigitalBits, they talked about the changes, and even went so far as to release a photo:

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/miscgfx2/jedichanges.jpg

It's been confirmed that that photo is official, and it went on to state:

quote:
We've been saying for months now that there were going to be changes made to these films for DVD, and while many believed us, a number of Star Wars fans have e-mailed to say we must be on crack. Nevertheless, believe it or not, we know for a FACT that several more changes are being made to these films. Trust us on this - our contacts are in positions to know. Like it or not, the films we will get on DVD on 9/21 are NOT going to be the original theatrical versions and they're not going to be the 1997 special editions either. Even Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet has confirmed this, saying at the recent WonderCon convention that the films contained on the discs would be the incarnations of the films "as George Lucas sees them today."

From what i have heard as far back as the episode 1 release in 1999 they were going to add more to the original trillogy. As far as what they were changing or adding i dont know. I did hear something about Ob1 and Vaders duel being altered in some way and something about a total of 17 effects shots were being added to star wars alone. I have heard nothing of they were adding on the other 2 movies but i know they were going to tinker with all of them. Now when that was said the idea was they were going to be on the dvd's when they re-release all 6 movies in a definative dvd box set. I dont know if the changes were to be done to the version coming out in September. I would think the version in September would be the standard special editions from 97. Probably some time after Episode 3 is released we will see all 6 together. Something like Episodes 1-3 special edition and Episode 4-6 special edition 2. Its all about the money think of how many versions of t2 that has come out. I know they have several versions of it. But as far as this release goes I doubt it is a screener of the dvd. Doesnt make much sense to do one if they didnt change anything in the movie from the last release.
