video 7 - blurry and pixelated in darker bits at times on xbox

audio - 7 ok ish but windows noises and tinny at end

film - 6 was ok but totally owned by the original despite some of burton's darker touches. wilder >>>>depp imo

After scanning through the xvids, I am very impressed!

V: 8 (slight grain, but still very nice)
A: 8 (lovely and clear, but does seem to drop out slightly)
M: 9 (I loved the original movie and I personally loved this one also)

All I can say is keep up the damn fine work Asteroids. Another fantastic release that will keep me going till I get to buy the dvd when it finally gets released here.

nice video, decent audio

8/6/7.5

strange sounds are actually happening in the audio track: besides mirc-joins you can also hear about 10 seconds of a song and there's this one time when a word clearly comes from cam audio..

Pretty good release. Just watched this last night. Great movie!

Video: 9 Pretty good. Dark as usual with most TCs, but very watchable.

Audio: 5 The sound was ok in general, but the mIRC beeps and strange random radio back noise was very annoying and distracting from the movie!

Movie: 9 One of the best movies I've seen in a long time! Guaranteed to be a classic if not only a cult classic! Similar to Ed Wood with color. Brilliant performaces by all.

All in all, thanx for the release, and better luck next time with the audio. -Jim

video = 8 great but blurry , so re-encode to DVD & you'll cure this with some sharpening.

audio = 5 changes quality through the film, weird radio static shit going on sometimes, sounds like an autechre CD.

film = 6 weirder than the gene wilder old version, space gerbils will love it.

Story is very good, shot beautifully. Like an essay on the original. If you're looking for a keeper, this audio fails. If there ever was a cropping issue, it's minor.

Good release -- plus a few tiny nitpicks...

Great release.

9/7/8

Video - 9 - Very good quality, although slightly blurry, no major hiccups. A tremendous step forward from the original CAM and quite good overall, very watchable.

Audio - 7 - Not a bad cut of audio, although as some have mentioned there are a few points where you catch a local radio station and the signal fades. Also, there is a 5-7 minute period where the watcher is treated to a cacophany of various Windows XP sounds at seemingly random intervals. Not bad though.

Movie - 8 - Quite good. A lot more like the book than the Gene Wilder release, but I'm still not sure whether or not I like Johnny Depp.

EDIT: In response to Mekeceze, he is correct. The aspect ratio is off, just a smidge. The reason I forgot to mention this is that I just forced proper 16x9 in XBMC and gave it nary a second thought. From what I understand, the 'PROPER' by another group fixes this.

Asteroids rock

Nice quality vid, a tad blurry and I'm almost certain the AR is a little out. Seems very slightly squashed vertically. Only cropping issues I can see are very narrow black bars left on top and bottom....but not even close to being an issue, don't know why people are talking about it.

Audio bit of a mixed bag. Ok overall, but there are several windows beeps throughout, most when Augustus falls in the river, and then the quality drops noticably when Willy asks Charlie to move into the factory through to the end.

Conclusion: A little rough around the edges...(maybe someone was in a hurry to get this out?)...but the best release to date by a mile and a half!

Thought the film was pretty good.

DId anyone else have the audio change about 20 minutes left of the movie? Also, the movie seemed alittle dark in certain scenes, but very watchable anyhow......

Audio: 7
Video: 8 - very nice work Asteroids
Movie: Well if you've seen the first one made.... its really just the same old movie, which I found boring.... but a few different add-ons.... Its more of either you like it alot or you hate it alot!...

Posted by vcdman on 08-30-2005 09:17 PM:

so let me understand this...Asteroids,Royal and NBP versions ALL have the WINDOWS and MiRC sound effects in them and nobody sees a problem with it?Shouldn't all versions been nuked for maybe being the same source but just used better equipment to reencode their own versions....i cant say for sure but on at least Asteroids copy they have Russian SUBS when willy wonka finds the OOMPA LOOMPAS village...how about the other versions..do they do the same?
video 8
audio 4
movie 7

Decent video quality although a bit dark & not very sharp , the audio is a mixed bag ,first off you hear mirc sounds towards the end of disc 1 about 5-6 differant times, also the sound has an underwater effect especially noticable when music plays, and on cd 2 towards the end the audio completely changes to what sounds like a CAM, Pretty weird indeed.

Video - 8
Audio - 6
Movie - 7 - Wasnt bad but I prefer the original w/ Gene wilder.

just to clear it all up for y'all, i watched the full release on standalone last night and the audio is mad up from multiple sources. it starts off with very clear audio, prolly from the russian dvd, then just before the narration starts it switches to drive-in FM sound (goes fuzzy and other station kicks in at 37m). the last half an hour is taken from the BaPH cam and filtered because when the end credits starts the cam audio finishes in the same place as the BaPH one did and the music completely changes from the 'willy wonka' tune to the same music at the start of the film!

so it IS mostly direct, which is good

Audio-is a 7 but the fucking windows bleeps that start at 00:45:XX are really fucking annoying. after coverting to mpg i decided to re-encode myself....flooded even more YUV into original src and fixed a minor AR mistake and del the glitches in the audio ,...much better imo.. nbp's TS/CAM snd is patched into the end of the movie - filtered treble on that as well.

Good release, kinda. Suffers from the same typical improper framerate conversion problem that all movies from Russian sources seem to bring with them. Yes, I will continue to beat this into your head. The proper framerate is 23.976fps, not 25fps. Stop speeding up your movies guys, at least on the DivX/XviD releases.

Video: 8

Nothing much to report here. A little blurry in parts but otherwise okay. There's some minor cropping that's unnoticable unless you compare it to the trailers. Nothing was lost, no detail missed when I watched it. It's obvious it isn't DVD though; an outstanding TC will make you wonder.

Audio: 6

There are times when some kind of interference(sp?) gets in the way, something like a radio receiver losing signal strength for a bit. (static and whatnot) When that isn't happening the audio is okay, not annoying or anything but sometimes hard to understand when the Oompa Loompas are singing. That is, however, excepting the Windows XP error sounds scattered throughout the movie. Whoever recorded the audio needs to learn how to set their sound theme to "No Sounds". :P Oh yeah, because of the improper framerate conversion from 23.976 to 25 -- speeding up the movie -- the audio has been given a shade of the "Chipmunk" treatment. Seriously folks, this isn't kosher.

Movie: 7

It wasn't the best movie ever, but I laughed a lot. There's some real good zingers in there. Johnny Depp was great, as always. Michael Jackson meets Raoul Duke indeed.

Good TC.... much, much better then the previous CAM releases

8:7:8 (although not as good as the original Willy Wonka)

Great flick...

Video: 8
Audio: 6
Movie: 9

Great quality video. Colors look a bit washed but doesn't distract from enjoying the film. Audio is a bit hollow and at a couple points you can hear minor distortion. Nothing too bad. (However I did have to turn the bass nearly off on my television to understand some of the dialogue) Overall a good holdover until the DVD is out on shelves.
