side by side

im watching the pukka release and the mvs(or whatever one its cloned from) side by side and the pukka version has a worse flicker, and the contrast is a little high, but the mvs has that guys head in it and is slightly cropped, and the sound isnt as good.

so really its up to you to decide whether you want... great sound and flicker/high contrast (pukka), or good video and cropped, ok sound, and a fat guys head(mvs)

Just watched it on a normal tv - hardly noticed the ghosting.

for a TS:
v=7.5
A=8
M=7

!

This rating is based on a TS

V-7
A-7
M-10

IMO, nuking this rls based on a few minor ghosting scenes is unnecessary.

The video is pretty good for a telesync... THANKS CiNTAX!

The audio is much better than any other release out there... THANKS PUKKA!

The movie... well, what else is there to say... it's The Simpsons, of course the movie is great!

m7
a7
m???love homer so prolly a 10

If this release didn't have the German subtitles it would be alot better. Used Virtualdub to clean up the video a lil bit and removed a lil bit of the scratchiness in the sound and my copy looks pretty damn good!

V- 8 (9 after i fixed it)
A- 8 (10 after a few tweaks)
M- ?? Ain't had a chance to watch it yet. Been trying to fix it

Now that there's a thousand different releases out, I just wanna say that this is the best one. Video is fine, noone stands up during the movie. The German subs that explain what signs and shit say arent too annoying. Audio is also fine and in sync. get this copy.

V: 8.5 didnt see any ghosting
A: 8
M: 8 Really funny, most definately not disappointing

V:8.5
A:9

I don't care about the politics of release groups and who does what or doesn't.
This is a watchable version, and except for the German subs, its good. If its missing something (end credits) cut a point.
No crop, no heads, acceptable color, good sound. Thats all that matters.

7/8/7

Great vid/audio for a TS, one doesn't really need a better quality for a cartoon..
The nuke for ghosting is ridiculous, it's a very minor problem..
Props to PUKKA!

Actually there is minor crop, color is awful and over saturated on alot of scenes, and the German subs leave out a few jokes that you would otherwise have gotten.

8/8/6

Pic - 8 - Great quality. Foreign sub titles only bad part, but who needs them in english anyway? Not even important.

Sound - direct. No complaints. Heard everything clearly

Movie - 6. Disappointed

Well, after watching this movie, I must say it barely kept me entertained. Alot of parts where I was not even paying attention or could care less about. This movie reflects the TV Show - average at best. I have stopped watching the simpsons for about last 5 years because of this. Writing has gone down hill. Jokes, storyline are all sub par.

Family Guy owns the simpsons. Watch the family guy and see how a many more jokes are made which are actually funny.

I do not recommend seeing this movie in the theater. Save it for a rental or cable or download show at best.

I haven't seen the other versions so I can't compare Pukka to the others. But I think this is a nice TS and it's nice to have it at the same time the movie is released. The German subtitles get into the way some but they aren't a major pain.

V: 7.5 - The color isn't great but definitely watchable.

A: 8 - Sounded pretty good to me for a TS.

M: 8 - I enjoyed it but it's just an extended Simpson's episode. I guess in a way this is good because there's no reason to turn it into a big extravaganza.

Anyway this version is fine until a TS with an English source or a screener comes along.

Edit: I just watched it again with the English subtitles. It **IS**
better getting those few jokes. I also raise my V grade to 8 and M grade to 9.

Well, i watched the mVs, then NO Fear, then iND, then this one. *If* only the mVs wouldn't have had the video cropped so bad, and all the heads in the way. The mVs would blow this away on sharpness, and overall quality. But thats what we got, so now Pukka brings us a proper. This video is still slightly cropped, but nothing major. You can still see the German subtitles at some places. The brightness is overpowering! Some scenes have parts that are completely washed out. Aside from being so bright, the color red permeates everything. Things that aren't supposed to be red have a red cast to them. (If encoding with TMPGEnc, turn the red way down people.) Besides those two big flaws, the ghosting is very bad. It ruinied any scene that had fast motion. I'm still hoping for a real proper because Pukka's release adds more problems than it fixes.

V - 5
A - 8
M - 7

As usual, I'm late to the party

Okay, so I took my time to watch this release, but I'm very informed now. Hooray.

Video - 8: Highly watchable, though not perfect by any stretch. I suspect if this wasn't an animated film the clarity would be much, much worse. Fortunately for us the cammer managed to pick up the action fairly well, though we're missing the opening bit with Ralph Wiggum singing the Fox theme. There's some minor image distortion in the video; hard to notice as it may be, some things like the scrolling notice about 10 minutes in show the problem perfectly. There's also the aforementioned brightness issue, which seems to vary depending on the area of the screen. My guess is the above two issues are due to the cammer sitting too close to the screen. There's also a noticable "scroll" to the image (someone described it as an invisible bar); this is due to the shutter speed of the cammer's rig not being adjusted properly, though to be fair very few small digicams have adequate shutter speed settings. Also, the "motion blur" on this movie is remarkably high, but I suspect it's simply more noticable due to it being an animated film, rather than there being something wrong with the capture setup.

Audio - 9: Really quite good. There's an incredibly light hiss to it in a few places, but everything comes through loud and clear. There's even some decent bass to it, and while the sound isn't really stereo, it isn't precisely mono either. Certain effects like crowd noises will often have different left and right channel elements, though most of it is mono audio. The only other issue is that the audio has been lightly stretched in a few places to match up with the video, resulting in a sort of "quickly repeated" or "skipping" effect when this happens. All of these generally occur maybe a few seconds from what would have been a silent or mostly silent section of audio that would have been a better place to stretch the track. I suspect though that Pukka's syncer had to rush to get this thing out before the rest, hence the less-than-perfect job. Oh well, quite listenable all the same. Much better than what I expected for a TS.

Movie - 8: It wasn't the funniest thing I'd ever seen, but it was pretty entertaining. A lot of really good jokes, particularly some that just couldn't be made on broadcast TV. Unfortunately the absolutely hilarious bits have large chunks of just "normal funny" in between them. Still, I think it was a worthwhile film and I hope to see more Simpsons movies in the future. Oh yeah, the subtitle file mentioned earlier does add enough to the film to make it worth it, especially since it's all of 500 bytes in size.

Bottom Line: As best I can tell this is THE release to get at the moment. Certainly the audio is better than anything else out there right now, and will probably remain so even after the R5 inevitably comes out. (Actually, I suspect Pukka will just use the same source for their R5 Line release of the film) The video seems to be about as good as it gets at the moment; I've seen the iND release and it honestly looks the same to me. (Of course, iND is the release group equivalent of Alan Smithee, so who knows if I got the right iND version) Regardless, make sure to download the subtitles for this so you get the captioned jokes. It's only 500 bytes, has been linked to on page two, and has been uploaded to OpenSubtitles as well. No excuse not to pick it up.
