Thanks to you all!

Diamondz

4 GB of ram, .......it better run a 64bit operating system, cause 32bit doesnt recognise over 3GB ram - thats for both win XP and vista.

what the fuck do i know...Ive got to pedal like shit to generate enough electricity to get my computer to run. I still use word perfect..........yeh baby

ok, so the fact that the 32 bit OS will only support 3 gigs of RAM is a serious one, especially since that particular PC came with Media Center as a default OS. vista x64 can see all 4 gbs, but you'll never use all 64 bits. the motherboard that ships with the DELL XPS 410 utilizes a 40 bit external data bus (congrats on using those extra 8 bits!); not to mention that 64 bit apps are practically non-existent. (AMD is currently making a 64 bit quad core hyperthreaded processor that will be able to utilize two 64 bit external data buses at the same time. intel's quad core is simply 2 dual cores side by side using the same old EDB design.) in short, install a 64 bit OS (if you didn't already), upgrade the RAM (not quantity, but speed) and overclock the living hell outta it. that'll ensure you get to use it properly for a while without worrying about whether or not you got ripped off.

On the subject of value for money...

"Wal-Mart to carry $199 computer
Wed Oct 31, 2007 8:16 pm
Story : http://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...,0,5023511.stor
Scattered among the $500 to $1,000 desktop computers available at Walmart.com, one machine stands out. It doesn't have a unique design, but its price tag looks like a typo: $199.

Prices for consumer electronics goods, ranging from HDTVs to mobile phones, drop consistently, but few products have more potential to impact a person's ability to learn or find work than a computer.

The cheap computers -- sold beginning this week at 20 Illinois Wal-Mart locations -- are offered at a time when charitable efforts such as the "One laptop per child" program intended to provide portable computers for $100 to children in developing countries, have struggled to achieve results. That laptop will now cost $200, but the program has yet to deliver a product.

The computer for sale at Wal-Mart, on the other hand, can immediately put an affordable machine into the hands of anyone from students in low-income households to senior citizens on strict budgets, thus addressing the critical social issue of a so-called "digital divide" in the U.S. between those with access to computers and the Internet and those without."

Damn URL no good. This one is: http://www.chicagotribune.com/busin...ll=chi-news-hed
