sounds good although it will take some doing to be up there with ...And Justice For All.

I started to lose interest in them with the release of the Black Album. Yes, it had some great songs, but it in my mind it just seemed like they had watered things down and gone too commercial .

<NOTREALLYAIMEDATMETALLICARANT> I'm all for bands trying to reach a bigger audience, but it shouldn't be at the expense of their music...are you listening Green Day?</NOTREALLYAIMEDATMETALLICARANT>

Load and Reload have some great tracks too, but St.Anger? what the fuck happened there?

Lets hope they redeem themselves with this one.

September 12th, just a month away. Definitely in the mood for this new album after having And Justice For All in my head unit for the past week. Forgot just how many kick ass tracks were on that album (besides One of course).

After the Black Album things went downhill though Load and Reload have a few great tracks.

This post here makes your opinion shit. ReLoad was fucking horrible...

The End.

There was some alright tunes on St. Anger but they fucked it up nicely with the production side of it, it's a pity they didn't turn to Rick Rubin earlier.
Has anyone heard Cyanide yet?
Can't say I'm impressed, it must have took a whole 2 minutes to come up with the 3-note main riff it's a far cry from ...and justice. It reminded me of their song 'Cure'
At least the drums sound better, I think I even heard a double-kick drum somewhere, Plus, the bass sounded pretty good

I got the 256kbps MP3 release straight from the soundboard and listened to it LOUD on the way to a meeting this morning and, after a few listens, it's growing on me now (a bit like an anal wart). The YouTube version (obviously) doesn't really do it justice - when I first listened to it on there, I wasn't impressed either.

As it's the first live performance of this song, it may be a little rough around the edges so I'm reserving full judgement until the official release.

I haven't been a huge fan of there later work either, I thought Load was OK at best, a few decent tracks, ReLoad was fucking hideous, Fuel wasn't that good of a song and that was about the best song on it, and Unfor-fucking-given 2 WTF? is that about?

As far as St. Anger goes, It's not great by any means. It's heaps better than ReLoad still, I was at least able to listen to all of St. Anger. LOL

If you think Reload was even OK, your opinion is shit. I went out the day it came out and purchased it and to this day never finished the cd, I couldn't. It was that bad, I let someone borrow it and they never gave it back and I was happy about it.

I kind of liked cyanide from the first listen on youtube, I'm getting the soundboard copy now.

Metallica isn't the same band they were back in the 80's, There older, and sober the music won't be the same. I think they should go into a whole new direction with there music. Like a funky metal, lol. That would rock.

the soundboard copy you can here special ed, lol. The song has potential, Can't wait to hear the final recording.

St. Anger was much, much worse than ReLoad. I listen to all of St. Anger through once and took it out of my cd player never to play it again. Only other times I took a listen was when other people played it and it was still total shit. There is no comparison. ReLoad was maybe their second worse album but St. Anger definitely as the top spot and there is a huge gap between the two. Load has some killer tracks, if you disagree go kill yourself.

You listen to groups like Linkin Park. I'm sure you liked the new Disturbed cd as well? That was total shit.

your taste in music isn't the best. You don't listen to metal, You mainly listen to mainstream.

Load has killer tracks? Like what? lol

According to some music reviewer who got a 6 track promo this was one of the weakest songs, so I still have high hopes for the album.
I've had a listen to the flac recording now and it definitely sounds better, but I was hoping for something a bit faster like Battery, Dyers Eve, Blackened... (there's a riff in Cyanide thats sounds a bit like the halftime bit in blackened )

Metallica's myspace page has another new song called The Day That Never Comes. It sound aight.

It's NOT the old Metallica, So if you can't get over that. Then don't bother.

Just got two tickets to the album launch party at the O2 arena in London on 15th September. £13 for both tickets including VAT and ticket handling charges. Nooooice! All proceeds from the London gig will be going to Youth Music, the UK's largest children's music charity which is pretty decent of them.

The album has been leaked, I'll give it a listen sometime today.

Yeah, currently listening to it now. It's a shitty rip though (too loud and distorted).

I was late on this one. Just decided to do a search and found out it was infact leaked. I was going to report it for ya, but NEVERMIND, lol.

Great day, The Dark Knight and Metallica. Sweetness.

::EDIT:: I agree with Vampire 100% Don't turn it up to loud. LOL.

I think my main problem with the newer Metallica is. James singing style. I like the old style better.

Another ::EDIT:: Make that #3, LOL.

I like it. it's not ...And Justice. or The Black Album, but it's better than St. Anger, Reload, and even Load.

On September 2, 2008, a French record store began selling copies of Death Magnetic, nearly two weeks ahead of its scheduled worldwide release date,[26] which resulted in the album being made prematurely available on peer-to-peer clients. It is currently unconfirmed whether Metallica or Warner Bros. will be taking any action against the retailer, though drummer Lars Ulrich who was questioned about the leak on a San Francisco radio station gave this response:“ Listen, we're ten days from release. I mean, from here, we're golden. If this thing leaks all over the world today or tomorrow, happy days. Happy days. Trust me. Ten days out and it hasn't quote-unquote fallen off the truck yet? Everybody's happy. It's 2008 and it's part of how it is these days, so it's fine. We're happy.[27] ”

So where the fuck is our great copies? Fucking French can't do anything right.

I've had a couple of listens to it now an I'm really liking the new material. The thrash songs I was hoping for are there, "That was just your life" & "My Apocalypse" are two that have caught my attention.
"Cyanide" is starting to grow on me like an anal wart the solo sounds better than the live version I heard (it sounds a bit like a Tom Morello solo at one point).
I wasn't too impressed with "The day that never comes" to begin with, the ending sounded like a jam session at first listening, but I'm liking the whole song now.
All in all it's the heaviest material they've done since ... And Justice, I think they've done a good job going back to a thrashier sound and I'm looking forward to the tour.

Are they playing/appearing at the O2 arena, even if it's just a piss up for the release it's a good £13 spent.

Yep... forgot to come back and update with my review.

There is still a slight hint of St. Anger in some of the vocal material and riffs (i.e. constant thrashing of a powerchord which they rarely did before) but the majority of the album is a mix of their previous albums (exc. Load/Reload).

First listen - I was a bit disappointed.

Second listen - I started to pay a bit more attention to the song structure/riffs etc.

Third listen - I'm sold. I love it. I'm a big Metallica fan so I'm biased with their material but I honestly think it's really good. Others may disagree but that's their opinion. The production could have been better in terms of sound quality as it seems a bit... "raw" and unpolished but that was most likely their intention.

valvehead: ...yes, they will be performing at the O2 arena. Rumours are that they'll be playing the entire album with a few classics dotted around. No mention of a support act so it's either one fuck-off gig (starts at 6.30pm apparently) or they'll be finishing early.

I agree 100% I'm now sold on it after a few listens. I actually like it. It's not old Metallica, but doesn't mean it can't be good.
