Seems that golf must be a different sort of beast in the UK (knickers? What the fuck?) than over here in the states. There's plenty of domestic ice cream makers that do soft ice cream but I can't find any that have the Mr Whippy "pump" thingymajig that you're wanting... Steal an ice cream van or visit your local scrap yard to try and pick one up

Otherwise you'r elooking at trying eBay or checking a manufacturer such as http://www.telme.it/ECOREMA-ESPRESSO.htm to see if they do home jobbies as well as commercial ones.

My friend wants a pc laptop to take to university with her. Now that we are getting $2 for every £1, would it make sense to buy one from America? Would she be charged any import taxes or whatever? If so, any ways to avoid them? Doesn't need to be strictly legal.

Yes, it *should* be considerably cheaper. The only issue is the supplied voltage so you'd either need a step-up converter for the UK mains or a UK version of the Laptop's power supply. The DVD drive may also be region locked but that's not really a problem

but beyond the PSU and DVD region I don't envisage any issues beyond the warranty.

I'd suggest going private to hopefully avoid those pesky taxes - most eBay sellers/stores would no doubt mark it as a "gift" or you could try offering somebody from the US an "incentive" to purchase it and post it out to you.

A while back I borrowed some books from my universitys library and then plum forgot about them and they were left stashed away in a drawer.

Upon checking my university email account for the first time in months I was horrified to find this in the body of an email:

Outstanding charges/fines : £260.98

Any ideas about how I can get out of paying this back?

You second question is piss easy... Due to the composition of the atmosphere and the fact that different gases absorb and scatter light at different wavelengths. Lower frequencies such as red and green aren't scattered as much as blue light, therefore the sky looks blue
