CD-R's are cheaper than cd-rw's btw, you can buy like 5 for the price of 1 cd-rw...in bulk it's even better...
it's been "proven" that cd-rw's lose the data quite often and aren't as "dependable."

So I've been watching everyone argue about the screener/telecine issue, and here's what I have to say. This release is shit. In my opinion it looks as if the group took a crappy ass TS and put counter, LAS and occassional Property of messages over top of it. This wouldn' be that hard to do. I mean come on look at the brightness and contrast issues. This wasn't taken from a VHS source (and if so a VERY VERY fucked up one)I've watched VHS copies of HBO movies I taped with a top loader in 1983 that look better than this. Regardless of what they call it and how much you fight over TC/Screener, it isn't even the quality of a decent TS, so who cares?

i don't think that's really true. i think most screeners are made from telecines. (i'm assuming what you meant was "made using the telecine method", whereas i mean "2nd generation copies made from telecines".)

I never argue on these forums, but there is no way that this is a TS. First off why would someone rename it, most groups would probably be proud to have a telesync thats this good of quality.

Sure in the bright scenes where they are looking for b4 it looks so bright it's hard to tell the source, but in the darker scenes it's obvious that this is a screener. It's 3rd generation at least but a vhs source.

This isnt a TS obviously, but I might add the quality is so bad its almost as unwatchable as a TS.

Kind of reminds me of TWC's WPTs.

quality is subpar for a screener ..way subpar

nice try Verity good thing I am not a big Star Trek fan

6/7/6

Has anyone else had problems with audio on cd 1? When I play it on my comp, it seems fine, but in my dvd player (stand alone) it goes in and out, and my receiver seems to have problems with it, cutting in and out of the center channel. Going to rip the audio, check it and then re-encode, but did anyone else have this prob??

My vote: for a screener, I give it a 6/6/?

Saw this complete yesterday. Sound was very good on a normal 2 channel system. Much better release than FTF but real fans should await a DVD screener. The entire footage of the planet with the dunebuggies (or whatever it's called) is too bright and barely watchable (it wasn't too watchable in theatres either). Aside from that, decent release.

6,8,8 <--- yeah, I guess I'm a trekkie

Non standard VCD

Oops, forgot to mention, Verity must have encoded this as XVCD which has higher bitrate than the standard 1150 bitrate for VCD. Probably done on purpose to eliminate Artifacts on all the dark scenes. Most DVD players accept this format so it doesn't really need a repack.

Yes cdr is cheaper to purchase but when it comes to burnig anything but a dvd rip why would you want to maintain a copy.

Next point, I dont know how many times you can reuse cdrw but I have burned 50+ movies to 5 cdrw purchased for 5 bucks and some change (paid a little extra to get 12x) and have had no trouble with them at all. If I'm burning 1 to check quality, divx re-encodes and such, when I get the quality I'm looking for I just burn it again.

Anyway it helps prevent producing some trash which is worth something to me.

Was able to rip the audio and video seperate with Virtualdub, and re-encode using Tmpgenc. Filtered and such it now sounds great, no screwed up sound and video even looks a little better too. Definitely was not VCD compliant.

The release lacks color and sound is eh, it's ok for trekkie fanatics but I'd wait for a proper.

jesus christ, vtec, why don't you just make extra sure that that fuckup doesn't get overlooked by anyone, i'm sure you've really put their supplier's mind at ease :/

Thumbs down E.niG.M@ idiot poster

Again another idiot posted a movie without first checking it out to see what it is and claiming it to be a Screener when it was in fact a very poor quality cam job. If I had gotten this from my normal road runner account I would not be so offended but I had to use my easynews account to get it and it costed me dearly in time and money for a POS, this fecal pile of excrement that calls itself E.niG.M@ should be banned from ever posting anything again but what is worse is the thing used the -=VPR=- emblem to give it credibility. At least I was able to clip out the logos and other foul stuff and will work on enhancing the color and sound quality.

this movie is not compliant pic is ok on standalone audio is intermittent groups should stick to standards and not fuck around when they dont know what theyre doing
