wont work on Philips 630, running from notebook to tv via s-video, picture is excellent, not quite dvd quality, but not far off, sound is ok through pc's speakers, but cant really comment, good movie

Fantastic release, this early, but not a DVD-Rip.

Picture is good, but colours arent perfect, and it seems very soft, so im with pHo in thinking this has been on an Analogue source at one point, but still very good quality this early.

Audio seems fine so far, though it is 2.0 so i dont think its form a DVD, but its nice in DPL2, but is a bit bass free.

This is no analog source, this is not a TC either, The pixelation artifacts should tell you that. (Analog and TC's both carry more grain than usual) I think people who state it's a TC or Analog just don't want to believe its from a digital source. It may be from a digital projection, DVD, someone's computer at lucasfilm or someone associated with lucasfilm. Accept it people an move on. Yes this does set a bit of a precedent 3 weeks after release, but it is what it is.

has anyone gotten their DVP-642 to play Qpel? Is there a firmware update anywhere that will enable this or do you have to re-encode the xvid? I really want this to work on my dvd player. Let me know what you guys have done about this.

I agree the video is fantastic. There was something weird about the sound though.I demuxed the audio and opened in sound forge.After tweakin the audio for a bit I discovered what was wrong.The treble was way toooo high.I lowered that and raised the lows and mids.The result was a fantastic audio track which I remuxed with the video and burned to dvd. If your familiar with this kind of thing Ide definitely recommend you do it before burning the movie. Also, if it was a dvdrip why would the sound turn out like that?Unless for some extremely strange reason they thought they could improve it some way and failed or the audio was encoded improperly.However, if that was the case they probably would have fuxored the video as well. This to me suggests a secondary audio source.Another thing;I've seen film transferred to video using an hd millennium tc machine which was as high quality as any dvd Ive seen. Most of the tc's released look like they were transferred using a 20 y.o. machine. and also appear as though color charts weren't used for calibration before each new reel.Hence the orangy reddish hue in the tun release.With modern day equipment its quite easy to produce HD video from film.(This assumes post transfer enhancement).

a nice 5.1 were very good DVDR or XVID

audio can be fixed with VirtualDub, Goldwave, and ffmpeggui...all of them free I might add.

sample looks good, scene chosen was high action so there was quite obvious pixel artifacts but its better than anything else out there.

i doubt its a tc, but its far from a traditional dvdrip in terms of quality... id rate it at 70% of the quality of what youd expect from a normal dvdrip, but its still EXTREMELY watchable, and this WILL hold me over till the retail dvd comes out, i wont download another copy (no need, this is good enough)

-it looks like a dvdscr - remember that pirates of the caribbean dvdscr? this is similar kind of quality, but no ciggy burns that ive seen so far, so it just looks like an unmastered early test dvd

woulda loved 5.1, but lol, i can hardly count that against this release, EXCELLENT release for what it is + its amusing that one of the most heavily protected releases is the most heavily released ones in recent memory, hehehe - i mean a workprint (you hardly even get these anymore), and now this release... great stuff. take that, george.

All you philips owners, you dont read the reviews at dvdrhelp.com much?
Use mpegmodifier, open the file,you'll see a edit box with a number like dixv999b000p, change the p to a "n" and make sure square pixels is checked, save as whatever and it will play any qpel encoded avi.

Very nearly flawless release,if you think this isnt a dvd rip go see a Doctor and get your eyes tested it is what they say it is for sure.

Lol, I've seen comments like "wow, this is a good DVD rip" and stuff before, like with the DMT release of The Butterfly Effect, and that ended up being a telecine. We may all need an optometrist

Anyways my rating, from the view of it as a telecine - 9/8/10
