-- The Departed *XViD* - TELECINE - PUKKA (http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?threadid=72653)
Converted this to dvd last night and watched thought it was a very good copy
I didnt really notice much pixelation and the sync issues are not worth worrying about
when they are out it is very slight nothing to complain about
overall very watchable
V 7
A 7 ( clear but low nothing the volume couldn't sort out)
M 9 Excellent about time there was a decent film out
TC? mislabled TS? who cares, quality is great for something this early.
ive read a few coments saying this is defenately not a TC, well i'm not sure here is a screenie that looks to have some sort of ciggie burn in the top corner like a TC would.
http://img226.imageshack.us/img226/5413/ndvd018ch8.png
anyway i'm not caring as this release will do me untill a better one comes along.
as for it being out of synch it's very marginal, and i can fix this myself easily so i am not caring.
as a TC i would rate this
V. 8(average, not the best)
A. 8(same)
M. 10 (superb film)
but if this wasn't labled a TC then just on quality i would give this
V. 9(excellent for being this early)
A. 9(same).
M. 10.
7 / 6 / 8
Video is alright for the most part. I did notice that it got blurry during CD2 when they are on the subway.
The audio is not very good. Booming lows distort the sound, and it goes out of sync at various places during the film.
Overall, I liked the film, but I think the HK original "Infernal Affairs" is much better.
More screencaps, taken from BS Player, take them for what they're worth.

Until a DVD Scr. or an excellent proper comes along this is as good as we're gonna see this apart from the theaters.
From scan-throughs
V-8 (looks like the bastard child of a telecine and a telesync but watchable)
A-7 (Sounds a bit too high-pitched, but is listenable)
M-10 (Saw in theaters and it's my favorite film of the year so far)
I first watched the other TS release, audio in that one was a little distorted a times, but was completely in sync.
grabbed this version and watched it on the TV... video is much better and the audio is cleaner, problem tho, the sync is just a hair off... enough that it's annoying. if they fixed this, it'd be a great release.
v: 8.5
a: 6 (sync)
m: 10
lmfao at people who think this is a TS, you have no clue seriously if you can't work out the differences between a TS and TC then seriously you need to get out of the scene altogether.

I converted this to DVD and watched it on my home theatre.
Picture is good, definitely a telecine,it looked very well on the big screen .
Audio is a fraction off in the first 20 minutes ,esp around 15 mins in but its not too distracting.
Its very clear audio and when converted to DVD its fine unlike earlier Pukka releases which came thru the rear speakers only.
Didnt think much of the movie, though.
Without the original, it could be decent.
If you watch the original first, The Departed is totally not up to standard.
I liked how Infernal Affairs just jumped straight into the storyline story without any of the excessive fluff that The Departed had.
I just didn't feel that it added to the storyline.
Infernal Affairs was slick ,clever, subtle ,fast paced, full of suspense and had a good ending .
Scorcese and his writing team took the basis for Infernal Affairs added hammy over the top acting and dumbed everything down.
The original, "Infernal Affairs", remained taut throughout its 101 minutes; "The Departed," at 150 minutes, sort of lolls around awhile, with lots of soul-searching and pill-popping, until what began life as a classic Scorsese film nearly morphs into self-parody, with characters literally standing around, waiting to get shot in the head.

OK.... then make your case for why this IS a telecine. So far I've only seen 1 screenshot that showed what might have been a cigarette burn, which is not always indiciative of a telecine. I see ciggy burns in TS's all the time.
Here's my case:
1. Credit are not in tact. 99% of the TC's coming out recently have full credits.
2. It looks like shite... period. Pixelated, colors suck, blurry.
3. It's overcropped. Saw this in the theaters, it's definitely cropped. Doesn't necessarily mean it isn't a TC, but TC's aren't usually cropped this bad.
4. At 31:46 on CD2 it looks like the cam is moved or shifted. (see screenshots below). Specifically look at the left side of the screen... that large black line is NOT a wall. Go look at the video. You can see the entire frame shift as if someone bumped or moved the camera to the left.

That's my case. It's not definitive, but it's enough for reasonable doubt IMO. I say again, I seriously doubt this is a TC.

hi,
you know this release doesn't look so good, but i use the ffdshow filter in my mediaplayer classic to filter the video....
by the time its done, it looks like a dvd retail source....and sounds almost as good with dts audio.
i use sound normalization and boost,
16:9 anamorphic, de-ring and deartifact postprocessing, deblock and dering with luminescnce from mplayer, xsharpen scaler, and video noise reduction algorithms.... wish i new how to post up a screenshot for comparisons.... maybe ill do that....

Are we looking at the same release guys? Great video and a few temporary sync problems add up to a mighty fine release.....

u guyes crack me up.... ha ha
Nuked?
So is this Nuked yet? Due to scene regulations, you think it would be. Not sure if its TS or TC, but the Camera does seems to move/shift a couple times during the film. Almost like it's in the actual movie, but with no real reason for it, it seems like thats why this would be a TS.
It would be nice if we would know if this is gonna be nuked or not, so someone could release a Proper.

I ran the movie in 3 different Windows players and 1 DVD/DivX standalone player. Each time I scanned the movie forward and then reverse to check for overall sync issues.
Windows Media Player 9 had some very minor sync problems.
DivX Player stayed in sync.
Nero Showtime went way out of sync.
I burned the XviD files to a Memorex 16x DVD+R (MBIPG101/R05). And played it on my LG standalone player with a Sony Wega 32” TV. The movie played well with only very slight sync issues.
I haven’t yet decoded for DVD yet.
I loaded the movie in Goldwave and confirmed it is in real 2-channel stereo (not a mono track encoded as stereo).

Had a couple of sync issues in VLC (who watches shit with anything else???) but it wasn't that much of a big deal
I saw no pixelated bits?!?
Watched out of a XP box on a 29inch TV thru a home theatre system
I even saw some burn marks... do you want a screenshot of them???
v=8 (a bit light for my taste)
a=9 (played well on my HT)
m=10 (best fuckin movie this year!)
edit: Cheers Pukka!!!

Very maVenesque.
If they had of released this as one of their renowned TS's it would have been the one everyone would have been raving about and wanted as "the keeper" til scr or dvd release. Overall this is a very good release so soon after cinema release, wasn't even been shown in the uk at time of release. It has been cammed imo, and a very good cam job it is. Twice on cd2 the camera shifts, once in the end scene at the big score and once when his gf blows him off, this doesnt happen on TC's and up until that point i was convinced I had a good TC. Now i have an excellent TS. The sync issues are negligible, smoke a fag (or a tab) and enjoy the movie
V: 0 as a TC because it isnt so 10 for the TS
A:7 the sync issues arent bad but enough to lose it points.
M:8 a good reworking of a hk masterpiece but Infernal Affairs made this so predictable its unbelievable.
Climb the ladder Mr Scorcese, you have your foot on the bottom rung again.

I had no sync issues on either disc and this release was top notch IMO. Only noticed some pixelization in a couple of dark scenes and an audio drop out in one or two spots. Nice work PUKKA.
