I think my main problem is there are exactly zero great riffs on this records. Most of the songs are listenable but absolutely nothing exciting, regardless of their step towards the right direction.

Check out Deal With It's new record instead.

Have to say after listening to the new album for the past few days Metallica has redeemed itself for St. Anger. Have to agree with para, not better than most albums up to the Black Album, but definitely an improvement.

Well, there seems to be a Consensus around here. Not a perfect cd, Not old Metallica but not bad.

I say it's there best CD since The Black Album.

ManCandy did you ever listen to that CD Within Temptation? You better fucking have.

For the first time in vcd history I agree with para. The album is growing on me. I like the first 6 songs the most. All nightmare long is my favorite.

If you believe what you download, the proper retail rip was released today and the clipping/distortion still exists so it seems to be a problem with the production or mastering.

The Metallifans are going barmy on the official forums with flamefests a-plenty. Probably the most notable song with this unfortunate problem is "The Day That Never Comes" (just listen to the last 15 seconds or so to see what I mean - ouch!).

Intentional or not, it was still a fuck-up that has marred an otherwise great album for me.

The Heart Of Everything, That is an amazing CD. Of course he hasn't bothered with it, They don't play em on the radio.

Like you said Vampire, but I still think it's a great album. I'm overlooking certain flaws, lol.

All great albums, I gotta say the heart of everything is there best.

According to Kirk/Lars... the intro to Cyanide is based around morse code for S.O.S. (which is now blatently clear once it's mentioned).

Oh.. in addition to the gig at the O2 arena, it seems that everybody is being invited to the "indig02" after party which is being hosted by Guitar Hero so you can play Death Magnetic on the big screen. Small print states that Metallica may or may not attend. It's free so I'll drag my brother to it anyways to have a look around.

Well any word as to why all the distortion? Like you said previously the last 15seconds of The Day That Never Comes sounds horrible?

I got the Flac release of it today and theres still a shitload of distortion on all songs. Any word if it's intentional? I wish it sounded more refine, I would like it even better if it was smooth.

Ted Jensen from Stirling Sound Studios 'apparently' said it was nothing to do with him and he's pretty ashamed to have his name against the album.

"I’m certainly sympathetic to your reaction, I get to slam my head against that brick wall every day. In this case the mixes were already brick walled before they arrived at my place. Suffice it to say I would never be pushed to overdrive things as far as they are here. Believe me I’m not proud to be associated with this one, and we can only hope that some good will come from this in some form of backlash against volume above all else."

There's no official statement from the band yet though (but then it has only been out for a few days - legally anyway). Also, people have been advising that the GH3 release of Death Magnetic doesn't suffer from these flaws.

Anyways... been back from the O2 gig for about two hours now....

Set List
---------------------------
That Was Just Your Life
The End Of The Line
The Thing That Should Not Be
Of Wolf And Man
One
Broken, Beat And Scarred
Cyanide
Frantic
Until It Sleeps
Wherever I May Roam
For Whom The Bell Tolls
The Day That Never Comes
Master Of Puppets
Blackened
Stone Cold Crazy
Jump In The Fire
Seek and Destroy

All in all, a pretty awesome gig. They ditched putting the standard stage at one end of the venue and instead had the stage in the middle of the arena which meant me and by brother were only 30 feet away from them (when they wandered over to the microphones at our side of the stage anyways).

Surprised they didn't play the whole album but not complaining as I've not heard a few of the older songs live before (e.g. Thing, Wolf and Stone).

Well in that case, let's hope someone releases a great copy from the game.

there is a GH3 rip of the album on TPB. its better but not perfect... also there are some flaws in it since you cannot merely rip the audio tracks out. apparently he is going to fix for his next 'version' of the album.

Posted by HoldDaSalad on 09-17-2008 06:03 PM:

Well I guess if someone finds a perfect, let the rest of us know. I'll do the same.

Just finally got around to listening to this. The general sound bothers me, production wise. It is not old Metallica. Old Metallica you knew every song on the record was great this is lacking. It isn't bad just I have high expectations of these guys.

On a unrelated note, new Trivium isn't that bad

a.b.sounds.lossless (http://www.binsearch.info/?q=Metall...-2008-uk_retail) - if you don't understand what that means, tough

That's the flac version but there's also a "Metallica - Death Magnetic [VERTIGO](2008/MP3/CBR 320)" available as well, but I can't post the link to that (private music torrent site)

Now, might I be the first to suggest that you ladies go out and buy it?

Thanks nigger. I have the Flac release of this cd. It sounds better, but still sounds bad. The distortion sounds bad.

Grant it I like the cd even with all that distortion but wish it would sound better.

I won't buy musicians cd's that are associated with RIAA. I'd buy it used though.

Got it on the day of the release... I'm so appalled by the sound quality though that I'm now only listening to the GH3 rip (on NGs now by the way Para) which, shockingly, is far superior!
