First particles are due to be fired round this thing in a couple of days but theres still another month to wait for the first collision data.

You wouldn't know this if you read about it in The Sun or any other tabloid though. Oh no, this is The Sun's recent offering(Click picture for full story.)

I've had to spend the weekend trying to explain to my less academic friends that the world is not about to end and that this experiment has been known about for about a decade, that the first collisions won't be made for another month and that their is little to no chance of the world ending.

"Have you heard about this machine thats going to end the world, I read about it in the The Sun?
"

"Oh yeah, the Large Hadron collider, its been on for about a couple of months now but it won't be making any collisions until October".

"No No , this is a different story, its just been in The Sun, it says it could end the world when its switched on in 9 days".

"Yeah, its the same story, they're just slow reporting it".

"No no, it can't be the same one, it was only in the paper a couple of days ago".

"ITS THE SAME FUCKING STORY YOU SPASTIC""

"Whats a Hadron?"

"Stop talking to me"

Baah science, What has science ever done for us
Well in preparation for the end of the world, I've grown my hair long not washed for weeks and drawn up an Repent now end of the world sign. So I'm all ready to rock and roll.

Might I suggest that next time somebody says "I read about it in the The Sun" regardless of the subject matter, you slap them and walk off.

I see no one has mentioned that one of the leading physicists working on it, Brian Cox, was also in the band D:Ream with the classic "Things can only get better" lol, let's just hope this won't be ironic

Some comments on the BBC Blog regarding todays 'switch on'.

quote:
I am no scientist and i have no knowledge of anything to do with physics, but in my opinion i would like to say i do think this is wrong,

You are no scientist? No shit, shut the fuck up now.

quote:
how much energy does it use and who foots the electricity bill?

Who gives a fook?

quote:
why is it necessary to know what happened at the 'theoretical' big bang?

For the same reason you find it necessary to watch Speedracer again and again.

.

I feel somewhat uneasy, abit like when we invaded Iraq.

Way to mix in your completely irrelevant opinion on the Iraq war you foaming faced cardigan wearing CUNT.

And my favourite doomsayer -

quote:
If you want to know what may happen, if the scientists of CERN are wrong in their assumptions about Black Holes, please ask for my thriller Atlas ohne Schweiz ( 'Globe without Switzerland', available only in German).

Hey, the worlds gonna end, buy my book, you will be dead and unable to read it but buy it anyways plz.

These people really do walk among us.

Ha. Must admit, I didn't click on the link before because I thought it would just be a Stream from a security cam outside CERN or something equally dull.

Didn't realise Neversoft made a funny.... it's been so long.

Sorry bud, I'll dumb-down my posts and throw in some random bigotry and fascism so my jokes appeal to your demographic
