I spent a week in NY for my fiftieth birthday and I gotta say everyone I met taxi drivers aside spoke better English than just about everyone on the estate where I live. Funny thing was we took a ride with an Irish horse n' carriage driver in central park who'd emigrated from Southampton 10 years earlier who new most of the site paddy's I had worked with. Small world. If i get time I'll post some pics.
