-- Sin City *SVCD* - TELESYNC - SAOSIN (http://forum.vcdq.com/showthread.php?threadid=60948)

Posted by tezmo on 04-04-2005 09:38 AM:

9/9/10 - I haven't ever watched a movie first-time on TS before, but because I was so amped for this, because SAOSiN made such a good job of it (it being predominantly black and white didnt hurt things), and because I would otherwise have to wait another 2 months to see it at the cinema, I went ahead and downloaded this (re-merged and burned to dvd), and was *not* dissapointed - they will get my cash come June 1st when it gets a theatrical release here, and again when theres a DVD out - I'm speechless tbh about the movie itself - its like nothing I have ever seen before - theres certainly nothing with which to compare it - good stuff

Posted by moviewhore on 04-04-2005 10:26 AM:

It almost seems, that at this point, Saosin is mainly competing with themselves when it comes to TS's. I have noticed in people's posts they judge the quality of the Saosin releases by comparing them to the previous Saosin releases! They have set a high standard for themselves with quality release after quality release. All of us can only hope they continue.

This movie surprised me. I wasn't expecting much, but it is actually very good. Better by far than 99% of the crap Hollywood produces these days.

Overall 9/9/9.5

Thank you Saosin! Looking forward to the next one!

Congrats - I've been registered for two years and my posts still don't make it past the mods for some reason.

I think I've only had one make it through to post.. heck, I tried to post the other day and apparently it never made it.

Oh, and 8/8/8

*shrug*

Not like this will be posted either..

::EDIT:: I bet it is! - Neversoft::

edit: I was about to enter my 10/10/10 vote on the main page, but apparently that gets your voting priviledges revoked, even if it deserves those scores.

The system should allow users to vote ANYTHING within 3 or 4 of the current average, without penalty, and penalize anybody who merely votes 1 or 10 against the trend (hear that, J Eastwood?)

I gave this a 10/9/9 - To those who have not seen it yet, think of it as a more stylized, yet depraved version of Kill Bill. Very cool, but not one to let the kiddies see (My 12 year old is disappointed, but defers to my judgement - his words).

This release looked great in every way. Where there was color, it was crisp and well defined. Except for minor jiggling at the start, which only proved that it was not some transfer from a DVD Screener (and will likely throw a monkey wrench into any other group's plans to steal the video), the picture was perfectly framed and saturation/contrast/lighting was absolutely stunning. It was not a trick of B/W imagery - check out the car seen where Dwight is driving and the roof of the car lights up in alternating colors. Very nice.

The wife and I watched this on the PC last night, she became glued the second she bothered to actually watch (she was playing a game on her PC nearby when I started the movie). I'll be transferring this to DVD tonight to watch on the big screen later this week after the kids go to bed.

Well, I watched the much anticipated "Sin City" last night. I can honestly say that is the most violent movie i have ever seen. Remember the overkill death scenes in Kill Bill. Its like that... on crack. There were more dismemberments than Saving Private Ryan, and beheading that would make the Highlander cringe. Not just with a sword either. one guy uses a hacksaw!

*SPOILERS*

Elijah Wood's character was cool, even though he had women's heads mounted on his wall, and ate their bodies alongside of his dog/wolf. Bruce Willis even pulls one guys entire package off with his bare hands! EEWW.. Bruce Willis, and Jessica Alba were the only two characters that i actually liked. They didnt really expand on anyone else. Who needs character development when you have all those guns and blades? I found myself getting bored despite all the killing, and was looking forward to it being over. This has to be the most over hyped movie of the year. I enjoyed seeing all those stars in it. Its a shame that even with Directors: Robert Rodriguez, Frank Miller, and "special guest director" Quienten Tarantino that the talented actors didn't have better directing. It was like watching a two hour ultra violent Max Payne video including the cheesy detective commentary.
The visuals were great. It gets high points for originality. I loved the BnW with just a splash of color to accent certain aspects. The BnW helped hide some of the CGI effects. With the all star cast, the originality of the video transfer it has such great potential. What we get is an OK storyline, Extreme excess of blood, and violence, moderate amounts of nudity, and good acting. Its worth watching just for the experience, but its not one that when its over you think "Wow, that was a really good movie. I'm definitely going to buy that on DVD". I would't call it a bad movie, its just a dissappointment.

Great quality from Saosin. Just a few seconds of shaky camera at the beginning, then its smooth sailing from there. With the repack on CD3, there are no flaws in video or audio. It goes from opening to the first second of credits. Great AR, great "color", very nice sound. This will hold us over until a DVDScr.

Catbox : Please, no spoilers!!! And maybe it's just not your kind of movie? perhaps hitch would be more appropriate? i'm just saying tho, you don't like it, that's great but this forum is more for release judgement than a full blown movie "review" & commentary, could be wrong ... i'm only a junior mem, oh well.

my thanks again to Sao, with the repack, everything is great, and yes, shaky at the beginning but after that, it's right-on.

Hi all,

I'd just like to plaster my previous question again:

What's with the ICQ uh-oh message sound at 10:06? I swear I'm not crazy, it doesn't intrude or anything; it's just random, bizarre and hilarious and I would like to know a bit more.

After watching this release for the 3rd time today (ya, I'm obsessed) I have to change my vote a little...

8/10/10

Video is very good, little shaky at the beginning and there is a part I noticed while FF through the DVD where the black and white kind of look yellow but just might be me. Audio is spot on perfect. And of course, the movie was fantastic. Best of the year easily and is on my top 10 list of all time!

BTW, the bigger the TV, screen, moniter, etc... you watch this on, the better it looks.

great movie, great quality keep em coming sao

Posted by Neversoft on 04-06-2005 12:17 PM:

Excellent movie, excellent copy... I think I came roughly six times during the movie

Seriously though - It's spectacularly violent, fast paced, interesting and original. I struggled to get into it for the first 15 minutes because it feels so "odd" but once your head gets used to the idea the movie takes on whole new dimensions.

I'd recommend seeing this movie in the cinema not because of the quality of Saosin's rip (which is excellent) but because this is the type of movie Hollywood should be encouraged to produce: it's brave, experimental, original - call it what you want but one thing is for sure, it's different, in a very good way. Frankly, all the hype surrounding this movie is deserved, although it's probably not to everybody's taste.

Video - 9 (although because it's predominantly B&W it's hard to fuck the video up)
Audio - 7 (clear but not super)
Movie - 9 (yep, probably the first movie I've rated this highly in months)

Looks like a Great release, quality top notch!
9/9/10

One quick question, could someone tell me the scale ratio of the video (4:3 or 16:9)

::EDIT:: It's a TS so technically there's no ratio but it's normal aspect ratio, with upper/lower borders to force 16:9 - Neversoft::

Posted by owlhead on 04-06-2005 05:22 PM:

black and white

it does have the color sequences in it and this is one of the best ts i have ever seen! keep up the good work.

audio:9
video:9
