OH SHIT!...here we go
now the point of metal being sdtarted by bands like black sabbath blue cheer and vanilla fudge is valid....but you cant take away the fact that priest changed music frome a bluesy style to a double guitar classical based music....not to mention they started the leather and spikes look that dominated the music....just like slayer didnt invent metal....they gave it a new edge to the people...i dont even know if they were the first....probably not...but they are the standard(that goes for priest and slayer)

Listening to Blizzard of Ozz at this moment, and I gotta say this is probably one of greatest albums ever. This is Ozzy's best solo album.

yeah blackmore did it first but we are talking metal not psychedelia....by the time purple added coverdale(1974) and adopted that metal sound priest released sad wings side by side with them(which was more influential in my generation)...nobody ever mentiond coverdale purple in my gen and rainbow at that time was joe lynn turner(ungh...radio rock)....dio was only noticed as a solo act or sabbath then...it took me years to find out he fronted rainbow
this also cancels out your maiden comment of "2 years before"...and again dead and allmans were not metal...im not taking anything away from any of those greats...but youre not getting my point....priest was one of the most influential metal bands ever...like em or not you can not take that away....
british steel was the first priest album that every metalhead had to have...every kid i knew with a guitar knew how to play breaking the law and living after midnight....me included....
anyone from my generation will support my arguement...no not yours you geezer...and not paras(youre too young)....maiden opened for them in 81 as a screaming for vengence/#beast tour....maidens roots start in 79...priest in 69 or so

If you want to thank Judas Priest for the 80's glam rock be my guest, I won't take that away from you Zooty or ManCandy.

No we are talking influential music .Influential , Richie blackmore ,Judas priest .Odd one out anybody?
Nice one Para,I reaaly don,t get zoots obsession with trying to make a point about Priest's influence in the music scene. At best they were a good hard edged pop group, they didn't do anything first , the whole glam thing stemmed from Bowies mrs (can't be arsed to go into detail) and metal as we know it was a progression from those early hard edged rock/blues bands. The overdriven guitar work thing was entirely Iommi's.The first overdriven amp was built for Iommi by Laney, after that marshall and fender followed suit.
Can't believe no mention for the Byrds, the Yardbirds or mountain-Lesley West what a guitarist. The yardsbirds alone produced Clapton,Paige and Beck.

next....a lesser known lp that a few here will recognise....but understand this.....just because you have never heard of it doesnt take away its value to the hardcore/punk scene of all time

Gotta say I'm not a big fan of punk I do get it but musically it don't rock my boat .Punk came out of the underground anarchist scene that was around at the time and reflected the mood of the day.Fucked prog which considering the way it was going was no bad thing.I do listen to the great rock n' roll swindle every now and again.I'll look this album out and give it a go.I'm a big pink fairies fan one of the original UK anarchistic bands If you get chance have a listen.Best album never never land.

Yeah, can't comment on much punk myself as I like it, but not really into it. Gezzer you should give Zootys band a listen there pretty damn good. I like it alot.
thanx for the plug pg....but im not sure you guys would like the bad brains...that lp at least...they have a more metal influenced lp called i against i and a more hardcore one called quickness...all are classic in my eyes
im gonna check out the pink fairies soon

Easy enough to find.........
Just finished building this what do you think.
It has a solid alder Brandoni slimline Les Paul body,All the hardware is gold plated gotoh apart from the machine heads which are Gibson vintage .Pickups are Seymour Duncan P Rails pickups
Pots are d'marzio switchable. The neck is hand made maple and rosewood,Sounds incredible. Its all hand painted cost me nearly a grand to make.

Can't say I'm a big fan of the artwork but the hardware has given me a boner.
I'm just about to sell 5 out of my 6 guitars to clear some credit card debt but should also have enough left over to buy myself a Gibson Les Paul. I was planning on selling my "active" guitar (Line 6 Variax 700) until I turned round whilst wearing it and hit the door with it taking out a chunk of the lovely blue finish down to the bare wood. That thing cost me about £900 new.
I was also going to sell my effects workstation (GNX4) until I discovered that, in the house move over a year ago, all of the USB pins have been bent or snapped. Fixable, I know, but still fecking annoying when you decide you're going to sell something.
