I'm pretty sure you mean Oscars, but the "cheers" makes me think you're not a yank, so there is no reason for anyone to attack you based on your comment (i'm hopefully going to avoid that for you by just clearing this up now).

But yeah, Oscar season means every company who wants their movie considered sends out Screeners to the academy and other members of the media, etc. With the advent of DVD and the increased movie times of feature productions, it is not unusual to have DVD Screeners nowadays at all.

A lot of our speculation is also based on last year's release of the DVD Screener in January (1/16/02).
I'm glad at least the people begging for the DVD.Screener in every thread for every new release has stopped, I think we got spoiled by Harry Potter's early DVD Screener release (last year's DVD.Scr did not come out apparently until February of this year).
So people remain hopeful for a DVD Screener early, but I think patience is good to have.
I mean anyway, it's not like this movie has an end regardless; only worth purchasing when the trilogy is done and a box set comes out... before the uber super duper extended platinum who-gives-a-crap-how-they-made-the-monster's-feet-move edition comes out).

As far as this release, it is a shame UTi does not have access to a direct audio source, so they can progress to TS status.

I know this has nothing to do with uti's release but if u want awesome quality picture (best one so far with the whole picture at high resolution) is to get the REBiRTH one. It is in french but i watched the sample and the pic is awesome. Just slap on some english on it and you have a close to dvd release! (Pretty awesome cam)

Just finished viewing.. Best version around.Very decent cam 8/8/10..better than most ts out there..

but still.. it's just a poor cam release that has nothing to do with the real big screen experience or a DVD screener/release.

It's just a good cam release, nothing more, nothing else. So, quit sounding like n00bs, and wait for a proper DVD release.

I may just be a n00b myself (God I HATE that word), but surely you can't PROMOTE something to a telesync? It's not a tag that indicates film quality (Well, I suppose it can be used that way) but has to do with how the ACTUAL release was filmed?

Oh and this release is better than all the rest out there. And as for sources Mr fateswarm, I got this on IRC not long after it was shown on vcdquality.com so it can't be difficult to get hold of.

First off its the Oscars not the Grammys..Second off Why the fuck would u mention Blue Crush in with 007 and Harry Potter? Do you really think we got a blue crush screener because of the oscars or because the movie sucked so much ass that they had to get screeners out to rental stores for a QUICK to video release?

If Blue Crush ever won an oscar I would NEVER watch another movie again

UTi's copy was soo good It would of passed as a TELESYNC !
Amazing great auido and video for a cam!

My friend works for a games company and they've got a product in the bafta's as such they get to vote on the baftas he's got a stack of like 20 dvdscr's at his house.
Not just Oscar season. All the screeners he has though have already been released by TCF and such groups. Unfortunately.

Ahh, thanks for clarifying that (makes it more of a global thing rather than simply an Oscar-only occurrence). Although the next 8-10 weeks do tend to see more screeners (mostly right after theater release) if i recall. I could be wrong.
Regardless, it's a good time of the year, and it amazes me how many people rush out to complain about what is going down.
I can understand complaining about a TS and a CAM, perhaps... but to see some threads with people arguing about screeners that are released prior to or like a few weeks after the theater release amazes me.

Doesn't it also take less time to mass-produce DVD screeners? or is it cheaper? i forget the economical solution (aside from movie companies being able to show the academy/committee a clearer picture).

Posted by ErrorS on 12-24-2002 06:12 PM:

um little bit stretched.. colors are good but contrast is sorta bleh.. it DOES sound like a CAM but very nice.. still wont settle for anything but a screener though (even though this comes damn close)

Mass produce? LOL. If they do make DVD screeners for a film, I'm sure they never make more than about 2000 unless they plan on giving each audience member a copy of it as they walk into the Oscars.

8/7.5/9

Posted by oranj on 12-24-2002 07:01 PM:

watched it all. contrast way too high, and it becomes irritating ie gandalf becomes a white blob. colour is right tho, unlike
tcf. overall tcf is just as good for video, and they dont drop the fucking cam lol. sound is better than tcf although not much, hollow, and some guy keeps fucking with the cam, i can also hear
mobile phones, some guy belching.

6/6/9

I have to admit, after seeing the french sample, and comparing it to the actual movie, which I now have all 3 cds, though have not watch all the way through yet, the video and audio is much better.

Hopefully we will see a telesync or dvd screener soon!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to Everyone!

best release by far, but i'm hopeing for a dvd screener in the next month or so. by which everyone should have seen the actual movie by then. props to UTi for the best release so far!

Posted by misfits138 on 12-24-2002 08:02 PM:

would be cool if someone took the video from the german version and the audio from the tcf version and merged them.
german versions video rocks.

Is it just that some copies floating around are nothing but blackness?? Or is it me?? any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

The movie is not in DivX or XviD format it does not require any codecs you need a Software DVD player program like PowerDVD to playback this release.

hahaha, what better way to kiss up to the academy than by sending a copy of the movie to everyone on their holiday lists?
Yeah i realize my line sounded stupid, I meant more like, timewise... isn't it easier to make those couple thousand or however many there are by pressing DVDs than by recording tapes?
Plus with lengthier movies it is more beneficial I'd guess.
