Agreed, they'll get rid of the sassyness and we'll just be left with another crappy romantic comedy complete with multiple prat falls and bathroom problems.

My Musa: Warrior dvd just came in today, and just finished watching it.
I gotta say, its one of the greatest Asian war movie i have ever seen.

The year is 1375 and China has been in a war that has lasted almost two decades between the Yuan (Mongols) and Ming Dynasties. A small band of Koryo (ancient Koreans) troops are escorting their diplomats to make peace with the Ming Emperor. However, before they reach the capital, they are captured by the local Ming troops and accused of spying and are set to be exiled to a remote desert. On their way, the Ming troops are wiped out by the Mongols and the Koryos are left to return to their homeland.
As fate might have it, they find out that Ming princess Buyong (Zhang Ziyi) is captured by the Mongols. In a daring attempt, the Koryos rescue the princess to make peace with the Ming Emperor. Pursued by one of Mongol's greatest generals (Yu Rong Guang), these Korean outcasts must face an army who have never seen defeat and in a desert that knows no mercy.

The Cinematography is amazing. They picked the right people to play the main characters.
The movie is like 2hrs++ long (the english version dvd is shorter..but i bought the import)
The battle scenes are pretty good, almost as bloody as Braveheart (but i wished it was more bloody..lol). The ending is great. It's not your typical HOLLYWOOD war ending (like stupid last samurai)....very good ending
and Zhang Ziyi looks sooooo sexy ...
Musa: Warrior is not some cheap Korean Movie.(Most expensive korean movie ever made)..
Costumes look so authentic...

(some screenshots worth checking out and reviews..)

"ASIAN MOVIE" Junkies, watch this one, its worth it

they made an American Dvd release of Musa, with english dub for the lazy people...

Too bad i didn't buy the 2 DISC UNCUT special edition with extras!!! (25min of extra footage in the movie, maybe longer and blooder battle scenes?..i wish i bought it..but pretty pricey)

RATING: 9/10!!

Visitor Q <--- Anyone seen this? It's directed by Takashi Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer, Gozu). One sick movie.

Posted by jko`matik on 11-18-2004 09:29 AM:

visitor q is definately one of the sickest and strangest movies i've ever seen. i cant wait to see miike's new flick "izo". the trailer looks awesome.

here are some recommendations, that havent been listed here:

- Bangkok Dangerous (Gangster)
- The Isle (Drama/Thriller)
- Pornostar / Porunosuta (small but awesome gangster movie, one of my favorites)
- All Night Long 1-3 (Horror/Drama)
- Save the Green Planet (wildest mixture of genres ive ever seen)
- Naked Blood (Horror)
- Shaolin Soccer (matrix style sfx, a mustsee)
- Say Yes (Thriller, has similarities to "Kalifornia")
- Freeze me (revenge thriller with a sick touch)

argh me and my fucking lazy eyes. I forgot about this thread.
Well the latest asian flick I watched is Sicily 2km/To Catch A Virgin Ghost. It's a comedy/horror movie. I gave it a 5/10 on imdb.

I have Il Mare sitting on my hd and have yet to watch it.

Posted by pHo on 12-06-2004 12:15 AM:

i've seen the cover of that to catch a virgin ghost one on YA , probably glad i didn't buy it now

i just ordered (including links!):

The God of Cookery $5.99
Shaolin Soccer (DTS Version) (Extended Version) $10.99 (x2)
Tiramisu (DTS Version) $5.99
Wonderful Days Limited Original Edition $31.99
Quill (DTS Version) (Limited Edition) (Overseas Version) $19.99
Taegukgi (DTS Version) (Exclusive Limited Edition) (Overseas Version) $21.99
R- Point Limited Edition $29.99
Doraemon 1 (China Version) $5.99

haven't seen any of em before, bar Shaolin Soccer. about 20 times. at that price its rude not to buy ! i already have a good 5 or 6 different copies (including an original VCD from hk) but thats the best version evah

my YA wishlist now stands at probably close to $700, and thats without anything particularly extreme on it. i intend to buy as much of it as i can.

watched quite a few films recently, will do at least summaries on em for this thread, i need to help keep it alive too

Last Asian movie that I watched was Appleseed.

The artwork is beautiful and its actually not to bad a film either in terms of storyline. I thought the fight scene at the start was probably the awesomest bit. Definitely worth a watch.

Posted by pHo on 12-06-2004 12:45 AM:

yeah the fight is excellent, i plan to watch the whole thing in a day or two.

did you watch the original anime or read the manga ? interested to know how it compares to em. (i've seen the original, but only read a small part about 10 years ago )

Two Appleseed Sequels in the Works
Source: Variety December 8, 2004

Micott & Bazara, the Japanese creators of the upcoming animated sci-fi actioner Appleseed, has pacted with nascent Axis Entertainment to co-produce two sequels in the franchise together, reports Variety.

Combining motion-capture and new technology called "toon-shading," which gives 3D characters a 2D comicbook look, the film will be released domestically through Geneon Entertainment (Akira, Sailor Moon) on January 14.

Micott & Basara and Los Angeles-based Axis are further planning on co-creating an Appleseed TV series and a possible live-action feature.

They're gonna make it a family film, I just know it.

Posted by Unset on 12-20-2004 03:17 AM:

I just watched Wonderful Days. The animation was really nice and the plot was alright. Apparently, there's an english dub coming out and they changed the movie's name to Sky Blue.

Don't you think there are too many asian movies out with a storyline about civilization being destroyed by war and pollution?
