Great Quality, too bad the movie kinda sucked!

Posted by Type-E on 07-20-2002 06:30 PM:

I am a dumbass an I don't quite understand the movie, why do they have to put it such that the girl said the water tasted bad? Why do they put the wife's accident scene in the alien scene? do they have any relation? I am ready to be flamed but I really want the answer.

vid quality is good

However, the movie stunk. I place this movie in the same boat as Kung Pow.

I found this really watchable quality wise. I forgot about the black bars pretty soon into the movie.

What I really wanted to say was this movie blew me away. I think it's the directors best flick. What i really liked was the ending.
Almost anticlimactic, the way he avoids an elaborate or crescendo and just removes the alien threat, leaving space for the real subject of the movie: The preacher coming to terms with the manner of his wifes death and subsequent loss of his faith, together with the consolidation of his relationship with his kids. I thought the intertwining of the wifes death story with the alien threat story was masterful
Sorry if that all sounded really boring...

video and sound were good, very watchable but the movie overall just sucked! In response to the last post, the ending was horrible. "masterful"? not even close.

Nice pre. Aside from the black bars the picture was good. Audio sounded good also. As for the movie certainly a let down. I expected more. Overall a nice pre release.

Review of the Release:

Definetly a WORKPRINT...no doubt in my mind. You can tell by....
1.No Soundtrack
2.This guys voice is edited in when he is off screen(near the end)
3.The things at top and bottom of screen
4. A diagonal red line goes across the screen ever so often
The video and sound quality were Excellent though and i enjoyed
it very much
Review of the Movie:
Very suspenseful(watch with girl )
It becomes predictable but all in all I Enjoyed the movie

this is my first post on this site although I have been downloading and watching movies for the past year, so I will try and give my best opions of releases.

review of singhs:

Picture Quality- for a pre release the quality is excellent, the black line at the top crossing out the serial number does not interfere with your viewing of the picture and at first its annoying but after 2 minutes u hardly notice it. the "do not duplicate" at the bottom goes away after a half hour. sometimes the picture seems a bit blurry but not to an extent that you will miss anything. I give the Picture Quality a 8/10

Sound- the sound is very good, all the voices can be heard, and no words are missed, although I found that a few times throughout the film the audio would get really loud when people were talking and i would turn down my reciever 1 notch, but would then go back to its normal level, I dint find it annoying that it did this im just saying taht it happened. the music is in this workprint, all the action scenes have music and the only time it seemed like the music was missing was a few minutes into the first disk when they were waking up and runing outside there house. the sound effects are all there and overall a good sounding svcd. I give the sound a 8/10

Movie- Fist let me say im a huge M. Night Shymalan fan, I thought the sixth sense was amazing and Unbreakable was brilliant. so right away I had great expectations for this film. The film starts right away with the crop circles already at the farm and you learn more about the characters as the film goes on, I think the director did a good job of telling the story and pacing, If you didnt like the pacing of unbreakable and thought that was boring, You will find this boring too. the director focuses more on charecter development and pregression of the story through the fear portraed by the charecters in the film rather then heavy special effects. As the movie goes on you find yourself waiting in anticipation of what will come next. I think so many peopel will want a huge ending like unbreakable's and the sixth sense that they will watch this ending and hate the movie. dont judge a movie by the ending. after the ending rolled I found myself sitting there thinking that I expected such an amazing ending I was fooled, but an hour later I was still thinking about this movie and only now as time went by do I appreciate the ending. I think this was a great movie and I loved the entire movie for being diffrent and not relying on special effects like independence day to tell a truly amazing alien story. the fear of not being shown too much all at once and relying on the main charecters who do a really good job to tell this story is truly worth the d/l to watch this realese, I give the movie a final score of a 9

Overall this realese gets a 8 1/2 out of 10. highlly recomended
also this is a workprint but from what I have heard from other people who attended private screenings this is very close to the thetrical release only 2 times during this workprint does the film jump and seem like a scene is missing, but its not a scene that u would have missed anything its just them not showing walking from one place and all of a sudden the scene jumps and u have arrived in that room , we will just have to wait and see if the director adds anything else in the final film right before the ending in this workprint

Outstanding movie, picture and sound were right on que. Loved it.

All i have to say is that Mel should of taken Homer Simpsons ideas for this movie!

It was more boring than church, and they should of had the dog with the evil shifty eyes.

Then have the whole first cd go in fast motion. Then of course change the whole ending so he goes crazy and kills everyone with the American flag!

Anyone else having audio sync problems with this movie? I had it with the sample that I downloaded onto my PC and then when I played the VCDs on my Apex 3201 I had the problem there as well. Going to try it on my Apex 5131 tonight when I get home and see if the same problem exists there.

What he said

I have to agree, this is the best pre-release I have seen to date, never mind the black bars, once ya get into the movie youll forget all about it. By all means hunt this one down.

OK, this is my first post to this message board, but I am a long time reader, and I outdate the Internet Bootleg scene, since tghe days of WAYBACL!
Anyone who doesnt think this is an EXCELLENT quality release needs to have their head examined! I'm sure it was put to SVCD so it would not lose any quality (that is anythat it hadnt already lost) Had it been converted to VCD, it most certainly would have had strange artifacts and glitches caused by the loss of generation quality that the SOURCE already had! That said, This is a Excellent Movie, The Quality is by far the best that has hit the scene of any PRE RELEASE in recent history!

Black Bars, Dont Copy, WAAA WAAA WAAA WAAA So WHAT????
Its obviously a copy that was STOLEN from the sudio, it is VERY close to finished, if not the final Directors Print.....
VIDEO = 10
SOUND = 10
MOVIE = 10

Get your hands on this copy by all means, you WILL NOT regret it!!

PROPS TO WHOMEVER was involved in putting out this release, excellent choice in doing SVCD..... I Know it wouldnt not have had the same effect, in any other format, I understand Generation loss (Video to Video) and have hand much experience transfering things to MPG & MPG2 (VCD & SVCD)
THANX GUYS
I HOPE THIS MESSAGE IS READ BY SOMEONE WHO MIGHT NOT HAVE DOWNLOADED THIS MOVIE DUE TO THE FRUITS THAT ABOUND ON THIS BOARD!! YOU WOULD HAVE MISSED PROBABLY THE BEST PRE RELEASE FOR SOME TIME TO COME!!!

Gee, I've never posted on page 7 before. Just watched the show, and TWCiSO has NAILED this puppy. WHAT A GREAT RELEASE. Throw my name onto the pile of people who think this may be one of the two or three best releases of the year. It's PRE, it's high quality (pic & sound) and the black bars, etc. were wonderfully done. How they got ahold of this sucker is one of life's mysteries.

Thanks TWCiSO-- hope your mad props bucket is overflowing.

Quality is good. Video is about a 7.5 and sound about 7. I would say overall almost an 8.0 if it weren't for that dam copy gaurd red band floating thru the picture every 10 seconds or so and the black bar across the top and oh yea the white warning label across the bottom.

Shoot I don't know how any one could give a decent review of the movie like that. I hope someone comes up with a way to edit it out of there and re-releases it.

Since I don't see another good copies popping up yet I will give it another try tho and see if I can get past it this time. Dam it would be perfect otherwise!

Nice effort tho for such an early release guys.

OMG, this movie sucked! SUCKED!

Posted by chiefjoe on 07-25-2002 05:22 AM:

Guess I'll throw in my 2 cents (and ya'll are free to flame away):

First, the release- wow, everybody here has probably been at this longer that me, but this is one of the the best releases for any pre-home video/dvd movie I've ever seen, much less for a movie not even in theaters yet. Only thing I've gotten that beats this is TEG's Spiderman release. So what about the bars, and the red line, you get to watch the movie 2 fucking weeks early!!

****Spoilers*****

Second, about the movie itself- I think M. Night Shyamalan is a great director, what he's really good at is telling ordinary stories in extrordinary situations. In Unbreakable, the real story being told wasn't the comic book hero deal, it was Willis's character reconnecting with his son. In Signs, it's not the aliens, its the guy finding his faith again. The alien invasion is just the impetus for that. I must admit though, in telling that story, he did succeed in scaring me shitless a couple times. He's pretty good at that too.
