I think groups should start using the shitty asf quality that was around back in the day for a while to shut the ungrateful whiners up. These look like dvds to that pixellated .asf crap.

Superb Maven quality again. Oh it's a tad grainy, very slightly dark in places (although my HD big screen fixes that nicely), and oh there is just a wee bit of hollowness in the sound. Life's a bitch eh.

V: 8, A: 8, and M: 8. And the last 8 is for those who are big on Superman. I'm not.

Now if Maven and Jack Sparrow could get together in the very near future.....

Another maVen release! I love these guys! Now, on with the rating.

Video - 7.5
Not their best, not their worst. I'd put this one against their Pink Panther and Big Momma's House 2. They stated in the .nfo that it's dark tho.

Audio - 7
Sounds fine to me.

Movie - 3
I wanted to give it a 4, but that's *too* kind. Ok, so I'm to understand from the beginning that Superman left earth for 5 years. He comes back to find Lois moved on with her life, and has a family now, which includes a boy who is in school. This would make him 5. If he's 5, and Clark's been gone for 5 years, then that means he was concieved 9 months *before* he left. Also makes you wonder about how she was supposed to meet the father first. Aside from that, Lex Luthor seemed "not so Lex". Spacey was a good cast for him, but he was written badly. There's more I could go into, but I don't feel like attempting to recall what memories of this film I have already successfully repressed. I'm glad I didn't go to the theatres to see this piece of shit. NOTHING like the first two Superman movies...or even the last 2...

Yes, real groups who release their own work should do shitty encode jobs, so everyone will lose respect for them and then hopefully they can be as excited as you seem to be about putting out a sub-par release. The scene may be the scene, honor among theives, blah blah blah, but the fact of the matter is that the people downloading everything the "scene" releases is comprised mostly of these "whiners" you allude to. It's not a matter of "well, it's free", because it's not. The end user has to download it, which takes time, and costs money for their ISP. The IRC bots and torrent seeders and everything couldn't exist without time and money. And certainly you don't believe that the "boothleggers" are risking their freedom to do this "for fun"? Groups that grab silvers and re-encode them do this for fun. The actual cammers have ulterior motives. So maybe the people who bitch about the bitching need to quit bitching, and let the end users continue to do what we're ALL supposed to be here for; rating the overall quality of a release.

7/7/?--Will watch this weekend.

maVen made my summer by producing the best X-Men 3 and Superman Returns releases. This isn't their best work, but I don't expect anyone to beat this effort.

On a side note, the NFO feud between maVen and maVensupplieR is hilarious.

Witty subject goes here

Fired this up on the XBox last night. Fairly good.

Video: 7.5 - It isn't exactly pretty, but by and far you can see everything that's going on save for the nighttime flight with Lois towards the middle of the film. The video is very grainy, but like I said it doesn't get in the way of seeing what's going on. The graininess does make things difficult for the codec to compress though, and you can spot plenty of chroma issues and artifacts if you look close; nothing you'll spot casually though. I would guess that this was recorded from a significant distance away based, e.g. a drive-in/etc., based on the quality.

Audio: 7 - There's something off about the audio. It's a little distorted and a little hollow, but I would honestly guess that the distortions are from the original listening source, in this case most likely a small FM rebroadcaster at a drive-in. (e.g. the volume is up too high going into the rebroadcaster) The audio frequency doesn't help though; fortunately the 'Box outputs it just fine.

Movie: ? - Haven't finished it yet. So far it hasn't grabbed me like Batman Begins or the Spiderman flicks did, except for Kevin Spacey. (I mean it's freakin' Kevin Spacey) Brandon Routh does certainly look the part though.

As stated a little dark but the picture is good and the audio is great
V - 8
A - 8
M - 8

I almost felt that this was a sequel to a film I hadn't seen. A lot of back story that was different from other supes films, was this in smallville or something? weird, but who bets on a sequel/prequel or both?

Plenty of room for a group to TOP a maVen release

First thanks maVen.

Well the video is 7 - grain, dark, soft
the audio is a 7 - tinny, out of sync only a few times
and the movie is a 7 - liked it but not as good as hoped

Well, here's ANYONE's chance to out do maVen
Who dares? Ne1 gotz da bAlZ?

YA I agree, this is great for an ORC release

Posted by White Rabbit on 07-10-2006 10:32 AM:

wow, after reading the comments in here, it looked alot nicer than i was expecting

usually i find that the best way of judging quality is from the studio logo at the start because you know what it should look like:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3956/untitled6ew.jpg

v 8.5 (i dont care if its not maVen's best, this looks damn nice, the graininess hasnt really affected the compression as there is no actual pixelation to be seen, maybe *slightly* dark but nothing bad or distracting)

a 9 (excellent direct audio, sounds the same as click and cars in terms of quality/recording levels)

m ? (havent watched yet)

thanks maVen

encoding software is the equivalent of The 404 going on a diet and walking thru the door. takes longer and sometimes more skill, but ultimately worth it.

Thumbs up

Another excellent maVen release...

For all of you that don't really know what Xvid is... you can easily view it lightened up by simply going to the Xvid Decoder GUI and slide the bar to the right until it is as light as you want it...

And for these 'groups' that re-encode and call it a 'proper' yet somehow forget to slide that decoder bar over and do tests until the lighting is good enough and THEN upcode to MPEG... well.. no comment...

The quality of these releases is getting unbelievable.. maVen IS THE TOP DOG.. if you think otherwise.. then 1) you are in a 'competing' group or 2) you don't know how to watch digital images correctly..

Please.. learn how to encode re-encode video and audio streams before you make comments about Dark, out of synch... I'll be honest.. if it wasn't for that guy Adywan... well.. then I'd have to still be doing most of it myself.. =)

Video - 9
Audio - 8
Movie - 7
