Generally-speaking they're the same releases... It's easy enough to know what you're getting - read the VCDQ review of each release and make sure you grab that copy (you have the release group name and some but not all .nfo files have the release filenames in them, so finding the correct release on Usenet should be a doddle)

newsgroup pro's and cons?
it can take slightly longer for the releases to filter through to newsgroups (not sure where some people get releases so quickly, and one day i might find out, but i wont be askin cos i like it here too much to get myself banned) ,and its not just a case of download a file and play it...bit of tinkering with files, although when you have done it once, its piss easy....
another upside is the download speeds, should be able to max out your connection, unlike p2p (and maybe irc, but never tried it so dont know but heard its common to lose a connection half way through download, could be wrong though).
theres a sticky
here that explains things better than i can..
Pros
IRC = free, normally fast bots, relatively easy search engines, good pre speed.
Usenet/Newsgroups = No queues, excellent speed, once you get the hang of .nzbs then it's relatively easy to search for things.
Cons
IRC = Disconnects. As most downloads come through as one .tar file if your download stops half way through and you don't carry it on from the same bot, you'll likely get a corrupt archive. Queues, queues and more queues.
Usenet/Newsgroups = They cost if you don't get a newsserver with your isp. Problems with incomplete posts and getting used to .pars.
