slow burning and dma issue
Ok been having a bitch of a time trying to install this Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 500gig sata-2 hdd with 32mb buff
http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.j...ReqTab=Features
Ok my dell is the s-ata 150 or 1.5, now i am trying to figure out how to downgrade this damn thing, i have spent hours tryin to work this out
As well as right clicking on my computer, manage file and down to disk management and still it doesn't see the unit there or on windows
http://seagate.custhelp.com/cgi-bin...hp?p_faqid=3361
Also tried with the jumper block as stated from seagate's site
http://www.seagate.com/images/suppo..._sata_block.gif

Ok i managed to sort this myself maybe it was typing this out to you guys and today having a clear head to think, i spent around 5 hrs yesterday tryin to think this out lol.
Anyway i decided to post a reply to my own message incase others have the same problem and if can help 1 other person solve there prob then i feel better for it
Anyways, what i did was go back into the bios settings scroll down to the srive 1 sata-1 hit enter to modify with the on off button i assumed it was already on but i was wrong as soon as i hit "on" and saved it windows detected it immediately.
Have a good day as i'm happy as a pig in shit

good that you sorted it. dell is notorious for stupid bios tricks, so I'm not surprised that you had to jump through a hoop to get it working.

Yeh i fixed that prob but all after noon i have been trying to work out why now my pioneer dvd writter is burning at 2x
So i checked the log with nero and img burn and it says dma is off, when it should be on. so i go into my device driver in control panel and go to the ide ata/atapi controller and i have the following
intel 82801fb ultra ata storage controllers-2652 (newest 1)
intel 82801fb/fbm ultra storage controllers-266f (also newest)
Primary ide channel
primary ide channel (yes there are 2) (dvd rom dvd writter)
secondary ide channel
Ok the problem i seem to have found is the following :
The 2nd primary ide channel seems to be the dvd rom and writter
See here for what i mean
http://club.cdfreaks.com/1712829-post5.html
Now basically the prob i have is if u scroll down to the bottom of that page u will see the channel properties and the last part where it states current transfer mode, it should say not applicable but what it does say is pio mode even though the rest is set for dma if available. so i did what it said on the page and deleted the channel and rebooted and when loaded it detected both drives, i went back in the channel properties and now it says all in pio mode
So again i have reset em to dma mode on all of em on that device 0 and 1 plus reset the pc again.
Now after rebooting device 0 (i think is dvd rom ) now shows ultra dma mode 2 under the dma if available BUT device 1 still says dma if available but under that current transfer says pio mode .
So basically at a total loss and am stuck
Any ideas
P.S my base unit is here and has the full specs

Ok used a site called win hlp and had to reset the registry for my ide channels (something to do with playing bad disks and windows forcing it to pio after 8 or so faults) also had to switch master and slave around on my optics, now my pioneer writer is master and lite on dvd rom slave
Then had an issue with burning video_ts files either dvd 5 or dvd9 which seems to have sorted itself out at present, better than iso or img the files up all the time (yeh they burned fine throughout)
