Image as stated in nfo; little dark and grainy.
But a real maVen.
No need to mention it's the best out sofar.
Audio: little distorted, seems to be getting a habit.
Might be the record levels being too high.
Movie: waited for a version like this. Will enjoy it, I suppose.

nice one but not the best by maven but nice res even though its not 704 or watever.

Video-7.5(bit dark in scences and a bit blurry at some scenes, also grainy)

Audio-7(just a bit distortion, but hey its better than anything, also a few times it gets scrambled or whatever its called)

Movie-7(not as good as i thought)

Judging from sample this rocks. Great picture and sound. Sound seemed to ditch a couple of times during the sample but might be vlc player. If the enitire flik matches the sample its gonna be great.

Pic 8 Colours looked a bit washed but from reading all the gen on Superman Returns I think it may look like that on the big screen.
Sound 8 Seems nice from sample.
Flik I have waited over twenty years for this moment so it better be frikin good

Can't comment on full release because the frikin thing don't arrive here till next Friday arrrggggghhhhhhhh!

Thank you Maven.

Update - I have gone thru it a bit better now and the ar is slightly off and a little bit of twat factor, bit dark in very dark scenes, the sound bit I mentioned is because its 32000hz and playing it on vlc - but no ditchin at all if converted, sound is very good otherwise and in sync throughout. Overall a very good release from Maven and won't be beaten on a TS.

The likes of Matrix Reloaded certainly had credits of around 10 minutes I'm sure, so I wouldn't be surprised if a blockbuster like this does as well
Sample looked ok. Dunno bout sync issues just yet.

Shockingly an average release by Maven. Is it better than the other releases?...YES, but thats not saying much. This looks like an ORC release.....grainy video and shitty audio (32000 Hz?).
He said he had some friend who's now running ORC so I wouldn't be surprised. Kind of a let down especially with their most recent releases. Hopefully the Pirates copy is going to be their usual high quality and not some ORC release.

Video- 7
Audio-5
Movie-6, Average movie and didn't live up to the hype. If they make a sequel, they need to do a better casting job and get a different director and producer.

video = 8 - hardly any motion blur, great colours, seems very mildly cropped and it is dark but cured this when converting to DVD, also sharpend it up with good old TMPGENC. rating it 8 is after my tweakings, would be 7 otherwise.)

audio = 8 - in stereo, slight clipping / distortion to it but excellent, perfectly clear & understandable, good bass ... the sync issues are annoying but over within a minute.

movie = 7 - better than i expected, worth a viewing.

The reason im guessing theres that slight hissing noise. is because maVen got the audio from a drive-in movie theater. if youll remember from cars second disk about 30 seconds in. the lady comes on over the movie audio. im pretty sure they can only do that at drive-in movies.

Video = 8, Better then other releases, abit dark at some moments, but its a cam so we can't expect dvd quality. Very watchable; I recommend getting this if you can't wait for a telecine.

Audio = 6, a bit hallow but, as I said above, we can't expect perfection. Its sutiable for watching, though the sound does seem to drop out for a few seconds here or there.

Movie = 8, I liked it: It did its job and satisfied me plenty. It has its downsides, as some people might not like the casting or they may yearn for the wit and cleverness that pervaded the earlier Superman film, but overall it was enjoyable.

The credit to run for quite a while at the start of the film. Maybe not quite 10mins of it but a good few mins.
I dont know if there is anything missing, if there is i didnt notice it.

Again, not the best one by maVen, but still pretty good.

pretty nice release, a couple of audio issues (some hollow dialogue, couple sync probs,) and a little on the dark side. but it sounds like the print wasn't spectacular to begin with. you can only work with what you got.

thanks for not squashing it onto one CD like alot of folks are doing with xvid flicks. so many potentially great vids turn into sub-par crap cuz they are smashed onto one CD with a low resolution and a low bitrate.

quality is king, bandwidth is cheap, and modems are fast. too bad so few in the xvid scene realize it. crank up the quality and fuck the filesize. righton maVen.

Dark and grainy like what most people are saying. I think I'll wait for the DVDscr or a proper Xvid release. I guess if you're really hard up to watch the newest Superman movie on your computer then I'd say that this is barely watchable, but still watchable. Otherwise you'd be better off going to your nearest theater and watching it on the big screen. Video: 6 Audio: 6 Movie:?

He is talking shit. I downloaded the CamFX version and this one. The CamFX version is missing "the shuttle scene" about 35mins into the movie, it just skips about 10mins to the daily planet. However the maVen video has this scene, so it ain;t missing the same scenes.

NOT, I repeat, NOT missing scenes - contrary to what some nooB's have stated. This is the real deal, and a da*n fine release at that. It is a little bit on the dark side, and a tad soft at times - maybe not quite up to the typical Maven par, but definitely a great job.

further proof. superman in a dark sceen seems to rise from the theater, seats but flys across the screen. don't think anyone in the theater has learned how to do that yet. stop smokin so much of that shit ,before you watch the movie

Watched this one last night outside around the campfire on a 12' projection screen. No missing scenes, no major complaints and picture looks great even at 12' using an Xbox to play the movie.

V:8 - The only scene that was too dark was him a Lois flying around the city at night.
A:8 - Did go slightly out of sync numerous times. They were slight and fixed quickly. Very slight cam (hollow?) sound to it but not bad and not even noticable after the first few mins.
M:8 - I guess its 8's all around, I thought it was a good Superman movie, definately better than 3&4, but after so many years of the story being retold/changed (like Superman finds Supergirl when he goes back to Krypton in the Animated Series) the original story has been lost and we have pieces of each area, comics, cartoons, tv series, and previous movies all being merged into this story.

Worth the wait.
Plays very nicely on the wide screen, brightness adjusted. Sound from all speakers, but sounds more stereo than 5.1
Movie had great effects, but the story could have been done in 30 minutes.

8/9/7

Not as good as the most recent maVen releases, but the best so far of this movie

V:7 and thats comparing it with the likes of xmen3, colours are a little washed and the dark bits are very dark, but i think thats a movie thing, like if hes not superman the world is very dull

A:9 cant really fault it at all

M:9 Made in the true style, for everyone whos ever seen the Christopher Reeves superman movies. Enjoy

nice spot maven, best that there is going to be unless we see a "telecine" release that steals their audio

Not quite sure what the hell some of you ppl are watching this release on but using VLC and TV-Out it looks pretty decent. If I'm being picky, yeah, some scenes are a bit dark but you don't really notice it and the picture quality in general is excellent.

Audio-wise, it's decent enough. Clear and without any fuckups (as far as I can remember) and certainly better than the vast majority of releases out there.

The movie (I've watched the entire release) is damned good to be honest. It's "up there" with the better of these comic book movies such as Spiderman and X-Men and it's a good franchise re-starter. Overall, pretty enjoyable although it did end with a fizzle rather than a *bang*

Won't be seeing this one in the cinema but it's worth a few quid when the DVD comes out, thanks Hollywood

Not too impressed with the video quality.
I mean sure it's the best TS out, but other maVen releases were better.
Well at least they told us in their NFO.
Nice job nontheless!

Audio is OK. I wish DTS discs would make a comeback.

Movie was pretty decent.

PS: Why the fuck do some idiots give this a 10/10/10

I think groups should start using the shitty asf quality that was around back in the day for a while to shut the ungrateful whiners up. These look like dvds to that pixellated .asf crap.

Posted by asudd on 07-08-2006 01:53 AM:

Superb Maven quality again. Oh it's a tad grainy, very slightly dark in places (although my HD big screen fixes that nicely), and oh there is just a wee bit of hollowness in the sound. Life's a bitch eh.

V: 8, A: 8, and M: 8. And the last 8 is for those who are big on Superman. I'm not.

Now if Maven and Jack Sparrow could get together in the very near future.....

Another maVen release! I love these guys! Now, on with the rating.

Video - 7.5
Not their best, not their worst. I'd put this one against their Pink Panther and Big Momma's House 2. They stated in the .nfo that it's dark tho.

Audio - 7
Sounds fine to me.

Movie - 3
I wanted to give it a 4, but that's *too* kind. Ok, so I'm to understand from the beginning that Superman left earth for 5 years. He comes back to find Lois moved on with her life, and has a family now, which includes a boy who is in school. This would make him 5. If he's 5, and Clark's been gone for 5 years, then that means he was concieved 9 months *before* he left. Also makes you wonder about how she was supposed to meet the father first. Aside from that, Lex Luthor seemed "not so Lex". Spacey was a good cast for him, but he was written badly. There's more I could go into, but I don't feel like attempting to recall what memories of this film I have already successfully repressed. I'm glad I didn't go to the theatres to see this piece of shit. NOTHING like the first two Superman movies...or even the last 2...

Yes, real groups who release their own work should do shitty encode jobs, so everyone will lose respect for them and then hopefully they can be as excited as you seem to be about putting out a sub-par release. The scene may be the scene, honor among theives, blah blah blah, but the fact of the matter is that the people downloading everything the "scene" releases is comprised mostly of these "whiners" you allude to. It's not a matter of "well, it's free", because it's not. The end user has to download it, which takes time, and costs money for their ISP. The IRC bots and torrent seeders and everything couldn't exist without time and money. And certainly you don't believe that the "boothleggers" are risking their freedom to do this "for fun"? Groups that grab silvers and re-encode them do this for fun. The actual cammers have ulterior motives. So maybe the people who bitch about the bitching need to quit bitching, and let the end users continue to do what we're ALL supposed to be here for; rating the overall quality of a release.

7/7/?--Will watch this weekend.

maVen made my summer by producing the best X-Men 3 and Superman Returns releases. This isn't their best work, but I don't expect anyone to beat this effort.

On a side note, the NFO feud between maVen and maVensupplieR is hilarious.

Posted by yukichigai on 07-08-2006 11:55 AM:

Witty subject goes here

Fired this up on the XBox last night. Fairly good.

Video: 7.5 - It isn't exactly pretty, but by and far you can see everything that's going on save for the nighttime flight with Lois towards the middle of the film. The video is very grainy, but like I said it doesn't get in the way of seeing what's going on. The graininess does make things difficult for the codec to compress though, and you can spot plenty of chroma issues and artifacts if you look close; nothing you'll spot casually though. I would guess that this was recorded from a significant distance away based, e.g. a drive-in/etc., based on the quality.

Audio: 7 - There's something off about the audio. It's a little distorted and a little hollow, but I would honestly guess that the distortions are from the original listening source, in this case most likely a small FM rebroadcaster at a drive-in. (e.g. the volume is up too high going into the rebroadcaster) The audio frequency doesn't help though; fortunately the 'Box outputs it just fine.

Movie: ? - Haven't finished it yet. So far it hasn't grabbed me like Batman Begins or the Spiderman flicks did, except for Kevin Spacey. (I mean it's freakin' Kevin Spacey) Brandon Routh does certainly look the part though.

I almost felt that this was a sequel to a film I hadn't seen. A lot of back story that was different from other supes films, was this in smallville or something? weird, but who bets on a sequel/prequel or both?

Plenty of room for a group to TOP a maVen release

First thanks maVen.

Well the video is 7 - grain, dark, soft
the audio is a 7 - tinny, out of sync only a few times
and the movie is a 7 - liked it but not as good as hoped

Well, here's ANYONE's chance to out do maVen
Who dares? Ne1 gotz da bAlZ?

YA I agree, this is great for an ORC release

Posted by White Rabbit on 07-10-2006 10:32 AM:

wow, after reading the comments in here, it looked alot nicer than i was expecting

usually i find that the best way of judging quality is from the studio logo at the start because you know what it should look like:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/3956/untitled6ew.jpg

v 8.5 (i dont care if its not maVen's best, this looks damn nice, the graininess hasnt really affected the compression as there is no actual pixelation to be seen, maybe *slightly* dark but nothing bad or distracting)

a 9 (excellent direct audio, sounds the same as click and cars in terms of quality/recording levels)

m ? (havent watched yet)

thanks maVen

encoding software is the equivalent of The 404 going on a diet and walking thru the door. takes longer and sometimes more skill, but ultimately worth it.

Thumbs up

Another excellent maVen release...

For all of you that don't really know what Xvid is... you can easily view it lightened up by simply going to the Xvid Decoder GUI and slide the bar to the right until it is as light as you want it...

And for these 'groups' that re-encode and call it a 'proper' yet somehow forget to slide that decoder bar over and do tests until the lighting is good enough and THEN upcode to MPEG... well.. no comment...

The quality of these releases is getting unbelievable.. maVen IS THE TOP DOG.. if you think otherwise.. then 1) you are in a 'competing' group or 2) you don't know how to watch digital images correctly..

Please.. learn how to encode re-encode video and audio streams before you make comments about Dark, out of synch... I'll be honest.. if it wasn't for that guy Adywan... well.. then I'd have to still be doing most of it myself.. =)

Video - 9
Audio - 8
Movie - 7

Nicely said, I couldnt agree more. Now on to my rating:

audio- 7, not great but a lot better than all the other releases that are out right now.

video- 8, pretty damn good considering the source and how many other shitty releases came out.

movie- 7, I saw it in the theatre the day it came out and I liked it. It isnt as good as Batman Begins or Spiderman, but still a pretty good superhero movie, especially is your a DC Comics/Superman fan.
