-- pal / ntsc ? (http://www.vcdhq.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=50613)

pal / ntsc ?

Guess there is no way to tell if a movie is pal or ntsc before downloading is there? I've used SVCD2DVDMPEG in the past to get the MPEG from the cue/bin, DVDlab to author then NERO to burn. It usually works but last time, it would not play on my built in or stand alone DVD player. I have found only DVD compliant discs work. The only difference i found this time is that both the movies that I put into DVDlab were pal. Would this be the reason? What can I do? Suggestions anyone?
Thanks,

it'll tell you in the nfo. If you're downloading random stuff from p2p, it's pot luck. Download from somewhere good.

You can usually avoid this by having any sort of menu on the disc...

Do you have a menu..???

Panasonic dvd player..???

If the movie is mpeg you can find by properties, you can usually tell by the frame rate, if it is NTSC or PAL. You can open *.avi files in VirtualDub or any of it's variants and see what frame rate it is and then find out if it is PAL or NTSC. I usually convert NTSC rlses to PAL using TMPGenc DVD Source Creator then use TMPGenc DVD author which creates the *.VOB files and burn with NERO. If you need any more help or problems, I’ll happily help.

yeah but they were asking before downloading...if you can tell

It would probably be possible to download some of it and check properties.

that's what I would do, unless it was stated in the nfo

I've never used this one, is it simple or am I gonna need a walk through? A one click coversion from 1 format to the other? Downloading a trial of it as we speak, gonna have a look.
Thanks,

Simply the best

One click PAL > NTSC or Vice versa

MainConcept Mpeg Encoder

Load your mpeg into mainconcept..instantly youll see in a drop down box on main window wether its a PAL or NTSC file..

To switch formats just click the drop down box and chane the "PAL" to "NTSC" or other way around then CONVERT

Done!!!

Thats the way ive been doing them for over a year now and NEVER a problem

..Nice smooth clean mpeg at output :0

Good luck

actually i find this hard to believe because when nero burns it usually says that the vid your are about to burn is a diffrent one from what your default is, which in this case is nstc.
