Silly British, can't even enjoy a pub....

quote:

Indeed, police officers now have unprecedented legal powers over public houses. Under the Licensing Act 2003, police can confiscate drinks and even close down alcohol sales for entire neighborhoods. After young people used Facebook to promote a beach party last summer, officers threatened to ban all pubs in Torbay. Local landlords said that banning alcohol on a busy summer weekend would be "catastrophic." The police replied that the potential for "disruption and difficulty" was enough to justify blanket prohibition.

Sadly, U.K. politicians are inventing new ways to regulate all of the niceties of British pub life. One policy document suggested a 70-decibel limit on pub music, on the basis that "music speeds up drinking patterns by drowning out conversation and arousing the brain." The document also proposed warning signs about the dangers of alcohol and bans on cocktails with "suggestive names" such as "Sex on the Beach." There must be teams of officials working on the regulation of the dreaded "Happy Hour" and its deadly offers of "free drinks for ladies," "two for one," and—most notorious of all—"buy two glasses of wine and get the rest of the bottle free." As Home Secretary Jacqui Smith lamented, "It can't be right that you can still find promotions for 50p shots until midnight or 'all you can drink for a tenner' nights."

Yup, it's fucking crazy.

I heard Labour wanted to ban 'Happy Hours'... Seriously! Some teetotal goofy fuckin councillor deems happy hour's promote anti social drinking.

???

When did the government forget their mandate is to fight for the rights of the people, not to tell the people what to do.

BAN HAPPY HOUR....PEOPLE ARE GETTING TOO HAPPY.

Yep teetotal with a large hip flask full of Brandy for the ride home! (In a private car of course). Cunts!

"Sex on the Beach" is actually my girl's favorite drink. Can't imagine the local police coming in and telling her she can't drink that because of the "suggestive name" of the drink. You poor British bastards.

The thing is they're trying to legislate against stuff that people have "always" done, that they have undoubtedly done in their youth... When you have a disposable income you might chose to get fuckfaced on a weekend, that's your right and a right that people have exercised for centuries. They basically give it a label now such as "binge drinking" and try and legislate against it. Prohibition, even if only partial isn't going to work. What they would be better off doing is focussing on people who cause trouble when they're pissed and stop cautioning them or giving them tiny fines and give out some proper fucking punishment!

It seriously fucking pisses me off, same with the claims of teenagers causing trouble and all of them armed to the fucking teeth... I guess these political morons have forgotten football hooliganism, mods n rockers and every other opportunity over the generations that "young uns" have taken to kick the fuck out of each other.

They exaggerate to further their own agendas when the reality is people have always gone out and got shitfaced, teens/twenty-somethings love gangs and hurting each other and anybody who buys a drink based solely on it's name doesn't need protecting from themselves, they need euthanizing to protect US from THEM.

There was a kid in a club with a knife in his sock last saturday that he took out of his sock to show off to some girl, lucky enough she told the doorstaff quickly and they radioed it in to the police, who in turn called in the armed response unit who tasered the guy when challenged when he made it outside the door.

Plus some guy decided to fly off a 5 story roof, who i later heard had been injecting himself 10 mins earlier he was a doa

That was just 2 of the bigger things to happen in town this saturday gone

The trouble with the labour party is that they can never find a rational solution to a problem, so their answer is to ban everything they can't find a reasoned answer to.

I agree we should not get drunk on weekends

We should be shooting defenseless wild animals and fiddling our work expenses!
