K, I set up this account just so I can state my hatred for idiots like this wasting forum space. It's simple....DON'T RATE THE MOVIE UNTIL YOU'VE SEEN IT. Especially if you give a score lower than most on a movie with the only explaination of "meh typical maven release." How can you "meh" something you haven't seen. My guess is that this fool just looked at the pictures on here from the sample and did this post. Would be nice if some system was set up to ban people who do pointless posts such as this. (yes I realize that my post is off topic as well, but I wanted to voice my concern over this issue.) Thanks for putting up with my rant. Guess now that I have my own account on here I could do some reviews of my own sometime.

So should we pick up the 1st cd of the first release and the 2nd cd of the repack to have the best release then?

Otherwise, should I just keep cd1 original, and grab the repack of cd2?

8/7/5 - Bit blurry in some spots and the audio was better than I had expected. Movie wasnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be but then again I had expected a 1 or a 2.

so
7.5/8/7

Video was a little blurry at times. Audio was fantastic. The movie itself was great. Overall IMO a very good release. Thanks maVen for the quick repack and another great release.
8/10/10

Sorry but I have to change my rating on the audio because of the last 29 sec. without sound on CD1.

8/8/10

good job on the repack maVen,

8/8.5/7

Posted by BLUE-NEO on 08-09-2004 06:14 PM:

ok this is messed up...another messed up release. no doubt they fixed the second half of the movie. but as stated before. 43 seconds of direct dialogue missing from cd1. so even the repack is jacked up. overall no doubt the audio is good, and you shouldn't complain about free stuff. but sometimes dialogue in the movie is important.

Repack Rating: 9/7/9 movie was good..sound would get a ten if complete.

Cd1 of 1st release + Cd2 of Repack... 9/10/9 best way to go...

A slight exaggeration. Disc 1 is 57.29 and the sound cuts at 57.00 approx.
This is the release to pick up.

Video is a little blocky but by far the best release so far. (barely cropped on right side)

Sound cuts out at end of D1. Not much loss (tom rant)

Movie was well wrote, very few flaws. I really liked the "Transporter" making the drop at the start too.
(nice cross over)

All the parties played their roles very well.
I think the ending could have used some work.

"I seen movie on the silver screen and MaVen did a great job!"

My rant was about people doing reviews when they have yet to view the entire movie. So thanks for proving that you don't have a brain cell. Obviously I didn't do a post that goes against my rant. I have yet to watch this release, so I am not going to review it. Don't even know why I'm replying to someone like you.

Posted by paul333 on 08-11-2004 01:48 AM:

K heres the real deal about both releases and the fix u can apply...

CD1 audio from first release had "extra" background music not even meant to be there ..mayb it was the person who sourced the movie who added it in ..youll notice it most last few mins when the taxi guy picks up the assassin again....If that wasnt bad enough this extra audio is so loud it drowns out the conversation in cab....

CD1 REPACK audio is much better and most importantly DOES NOT HAVE THE EXTRA MUSIC mentioned above..BUT towards the end of CD1 the audio goes missing leaving 30 secs or so video with no sound..

Whats the best options for this movie?...

Cut last 30 seconds off the first CD1 and add it to the end of the CD1 REPACK...You can use tmpencoder to do this..the exact time to cut and add the parts is 56.59.01 mins/secs

so did they fix the audio mixing problem in this repack?

I got cd2 but didn't make it that far last night (had cd1
from the first release).

anyhow, cd1 - every freakin time they go to talk, the fvcking
background music goes up like 6dB, lol.

am I to expect the same with cd2?

if they fixed this in the repack, I'll probably grab cd1 again...
movie is really good.

Posted by K-FurY on 08-11-2004 03:03 AM:

wathced this today, very nice quality. the video is very good, one thing which i really appreciated was the english hardcoded subs (i could be wrong, but i think they were added after the capping and not on the original film print, ie by maven, and that really shows they put time into this). the movie also takes place during night and the picture is exceptionally good for a TS. the audio seemed strange to me (yes i have the repack not the original), it sounded like there was some kind of a buzz or tinnyness like old ctp releases, maybe it was just my ears or setup, but it was still good. the movie didnt disappoint either, definatley one of my faves from this year.

9/8.5/8.5

Posted by spaceinvaderx on 08-11-2004 03:39 AM:

I thought I DL the maVen repack but I still had some audio overlapping problems. The video quality was excellent though, and the movie was pretty good too, Tom Cruise is a bad ass!!!

GooD QUALITY

At the end of the first cd.. the sound cuts out.. only for 20 seconds.. not a big deal.. the beginning of the 2nd cd has sound.. and is fine.

It seems cropped a little bit..
very watchable.. the sound is kinda low.. have to turn your tv ALL THE WAY UP.. other than that.. it is good quality..

Sound 6.5/10

Video 8.0/10

Movie 7/10

Good release maven.

There were some audio quirks that were minor. I ended up converting the audio to DTS and messed around with the channel levels a bit. It's made it much more enjoyable. Nonetheless, video and audio is at 8/7.5 with movie content @ 8.5.

Watched it all last night, great movie- cruise's best for a long time.
anyways I watched origional cd1 with repack cd2 and the audio is a bit messed up on the origional cd1, as posted earlier by someone else there is an overlap of some sound effects (gunshots from earlier scenes) and incidental music that gets pretty loud during dialogue. I managed to watch it without many problems, but wished I had grabbed the rp1 at the worst points.

audio 9 video 9 movie 9

You took stereo sound and turned it into DTS. Please explain how this is done. All this time i thought this was impossible to do. What program did you use?

Nice "kinda quick" repack on this kick-ass movie. Audio is MUCH better now!

8/9/10

Posted by acme420 on 08-11-2004 07:52 AM:

All i see everyone talking about is the 30 seconds missing audio in the first cd. didnt anyone else notice the left and right channels were different audio? didnt you notice while they were driving down the street doing nothing you would hear crazy shit like gunshots from the left channel or jazz music playing way after the jazz club scene was over. all only coming from the left channel?

anyway this movie was great and the TS was great, best ive seen in a long time. even with the messed up sound from the non repacked cd1 i would give the sound a 7 cuz it wasnt that noticable till then end.

8/9/10 gr8 movie.

repacked review.

Watched whole release. Good film but would have enjoyed it more if sound wasn't so muffled throughout the WHOLE movie. Picture was flawless, cam did do some minor shaking for about a second, can't wait for screener or DVDRip.

Audio, at times, sounded like the actors were talking with shit in their mouth.

There is no way in hell that the audio (in the repack) could be greater than a 7. I'm pissed because I struggled to hear some dialog, so a 6 I give.

GOOD LOOKIN OUT! That was an EXCELLENT and SIMPLE way to solve the problem! I'm working on it as we speak. This is what we need. More people posting fixes to the releases that don't come out as being "perfect". People helping each other out. That's what it's all about. This fix was so simple, yet it never even crossed my mind. When I read it, I was like "DUUUUH!" How could MOST people not think of that. Now we'll have the proper ending for CD1 and it can go flawlessly into CD2. Thanks for the post, man. you just made my day!

Posted by gfavored on 08-11-2004 11:21 PM:

Hi everyone,

Not sure where you ppl are getting your repacks from, but in my Tar file it included the 40 sec audio fix for cd1. Guess either you just skipped it or got the repack from someplace that unpacked it for you and didn't include cd1's end audio fix.

Posted by Killa_VN on 08-11-2004 11:57 PM:

cd 1 is missing like 25 seconds of audio not really a big deal. as for the film i really enjoyed it. props to maven for repacking it so fast well done guys

there is a nice RE-repack of cd1 floating around with the last 30 seconds added... (someone spliced the missing portion in from the original release, and was nice neough to send it into the wild!)

enjoy

very good video quality for a TS, but very bad audio - very low volume and hollow.

movie itself is great - I just love movies that take place in a limited space, like Phone Booth (taking place in a - you get it already - a phone booth), or Panic Room. In this movie it's a taxi.

In such a limited and enclosed space a feeling of claustrophobia kicks in, forcing the characters to go to the limits, cause no escape is possible.

Also the story gains from such a location - it resembles a poem, where an immense quantity of feelings and emotions are compressed in a narrow space, always on the brink of exploding and bursting the narrow limits.

Don't miss this movie!

Thanks for the nice release.

Movie ?? Haven't watched yet.

video pretty good. audio is quite low and hollow as someone described before. i did find myself turning the volume up to hear dialogue only to turn it back down when background music kicked in.

Watched this on the tv.

had the CD1 from the first release and picked up the repacked
CD2.

Video was excellent as we've come to expect from maven. especially for a movie that takes place at night.

Audio was very good from a clarity stand point. However, like
mentioned, the dialog mixing was a little odd.. dunno if it's just
how the film was done or if it was a problem with their source.
You'll find yourself upping the volume in scenes where there
is a dialog (not all, but some) and down the rest of the time.

movie itself was awesome. I'm not a fan of either actor, but they
did a great job and it was a well written film.

video: 8.5
audio: 8/6.5 (for dialog mixing)
movie: 9

The missing audio on cd1 is negligable! 26 seconds, you don't miss a thing.

Certainly no reason to nuke another good release from Maven.

Sound didn't seem hollow to me either!

Strangest thing happened with this. I stuck the release on 1 dvdr using tmpgenc dvd author, and the sound gap of 29 secs disappeared totally. Seemed like a pretty seamless result! This was without cutting the file with tmpgenc plus as well. Suppose that the authoring prog might have detected no sound to convert and automatically cut the scene, but very strange nonetheless!

Watched the first 15 mins, good quality, audio sounds... disappointing.

8/6.5/NA

Has that tinny quality with dialogue and music that's bothering me. I cant turn up the bass any on my speakers but still i shouldn't have to :-p

Good release. If only the cartel release wasn't so damn hard to find....

If you can't find the cartel release, get this.

not true .. the 29 seconds give us some background of Vincent's father and the lead in to the joke that follows on CD2 .. luckly I had both releases .. I basically just watched the 29 seconds (nuked release) on my PC then went back to my standalone for the remainder.

TS review ..
8 video (slight blur) very watchable
6 audio (low volume, strange artifacts)
8 excellent movie

Excellent release! Thought this was a very good movie as well. Only problem was the music seemed to drown out the dialogue sometimes. I will definately get the DVD.

Posted by BudFern on 08-16-2004 05:21 AM:

Nice release. I kept disk 1 from the original release and got the repack of disk 2. The sound is lower than the first release and a bit hollow, but nice overall. The video has great quality. A few spots that are a little washed out, but crisp colors throughout the majority of the movie.

music in background???

i just got cd1 of the new repack and im still hearing the same music during the scene where tom cruise makes his first kill and that cop is going into the victims room to find him.....its some kind of loud rock music and its really annoying......i heard this on the first nuked cd1 and now im hearing it on the repack.....and i know its the real repack cuz it has the 29 seconds of audio missing at the end.....is this rock music part of the movie and is it supposed to be there???? anyone who saw the movie in theaters???

If you lack the ability or are just simply too lazy to apply the VERY simple fix mentioned in this thread for the last 29 seconds of CD1, you deserve to have your enjoyment ruined. Hey, I have a good idea.... maybe you should ask Maven for your money back....

Aside from which you've obviously been on the scene about ten minutes.... in the old days they all had heads in the way and audience laughter. You got it for free. If 29 seconds ruins your whole enjoyment, you must suffer from premature ejaculation too. I get intensely tired of posts from whining brats who expect retail DVD rips a month before theatre release.

My Call, with the fix--->

7/7/8

maVen does it again!!! Man you guys ROCK!! This is an Awesome movie and I'm glad to see that a Quality group decided to give us a Quality release to watch. The video is really good. May have a touch of grainyness to it, but it's not bad at all. The audio is very nice as well. The only thing is of course at the end of CD1 where the audio is missing for about 30-45 seconds. Other than that, this is yet another Excellent Quality release from maVen. I liked this movie alot. Tom Cruise is running all over the place just straight Blastin muthawassup's. The one where he's in that Jazz Club talking to that guy at the table is really harsh. The guy answers the question and catches not 1, not 2, but 3 rounds dead in his forehead!!! Now if that isn't killing somebody, I don't know what is!! Thanks Again maVen for this Excellent release!!! Keep It Up

Great Movie!
Widescreen, dark and a little fuzzy though.
Best one out so far. WTG Maven always best one out!
I'd wait for the dvdscr before you burned it to vcd.
Wicked seeing Cruise as the bad guy!

QUALITY 9/10
SOUND 8/10 <--- WHY In one of the audio channels the UNKNOWN soundtrack kept overlapping the voices of the actors this will be a TAD PROBLEM for people who have dvdplayer that cant switch audio channels besides that its WAS VERY GOOD maVen release.

Movie - 8

Video is excellent for a movie set at night.
Audio is again excellent but for the missing ~30secs but, in common with others here, I utilised that from the original tho the level did need dropping a little to be unnoticeable.
I really liked the flick untl the (rather lame) end - did they not know how to end it? Tom Cruise has finally made a film that I like - shock!
