Hooking Up A Vcr To A Computer
ive been wondering how for a long time. Can ANy One Help?
if you have a video card to support it or a break out box you can connect av cables into it adn use it as a video capturing device.
p.s. i dont htink this is the rite forum
get a video card with rca or and/co-axle hook ups (try not to go too cheap), or you can get a product like dazzle video external crap, but id not advise it if you care to capture at the best resolution and clarity
I have an ATI All in Wonder and my VCR is hooked up to it (along with my PS2 and Cable). Works like a charm. If there was a kitchen in my office....I'd never leave.

I picked up a Canopus 1394 which does both analogue and digital. Very good card but unless you're intending to use it a fair bit, not really worth the money (And there are better cards out nowadays anyway)
there are break out boxes that you can hook up via usb to. you dont haft to replace your card. especially if your liek me and you have a video card for gaming.
I back up VHS on DVD-RAM using Panasonic Standalone DVD recorder (Records in real time with great results-NEVER ANY SYNCH ISSUES OR DROPPED FRAMES), put the DVD-RAM in my computer, and edit and re-author and it's good to go.

don't waste your money on the dazzle. I have the cameramate usb converter and it sucks. They're all basically the same... the problem I had with mine was no driver support for sp2. The issue was almost resolved after a few days but I was impatient and took it back to Compusa.
Invest in a good video card, it'll serve other purposes in the long run.
i have a ati tv tuner card with pretty much the same setup as kal...it works ok, but the picture isnt very clear....i would go to videohelp and look on the forums before you buy anything.
i have a standalone dvd recorder. works fine for me! i think its an LG DR-4810 or something, had it for over a year now...
if i need to edit i just use a dvdrw to record then decrypt to hd then edit and reauthor
