What can I say that already hasn't?

This is one the best TS's I've ever seen and that we have had for a long time. Others groups would've tried passing this off as a TC and I think most people would of believed it.

FROM SAMPLE
The video quality and clarity are exceptional. The colours are very slightly washed, could do with a bit more saturation (which I will correct when converting to DVD). The sound is superb the best we have had since we lost DTS sources. It's alot better than the filtered CAM audio that most groups try pass off as direct.

maVen has moved onto using the xvid codec because it offers them better quality control, but I would like if they also released ready to burn DVD copies aswell. I think a release of this calibre would deserve the higher resolution and bitrate. I know centropy tried it during their reign, but with DVD writers as standard now and the price of media in the pennies and the speed of connections increased, it seems a logical step. It would save a lot of people the hassle of doing it themselves.

proof that you must be looking at some other rls, cause the black mark he is refering to is on the entire film, appears to be a tear in the screen or something, now i noticed that about 20 seconds of disk 1 at the end was missing audio, other than that its flawless,

My God this is a nice release, as near to perfect as TS's are ever going to get in terms of video and audio. The only little issue is that little black mark. I don't think it's a tear in the screen or an eyelash. After much study I conclude that it's one of those bits of loose stubble you pull out of your chin.

Anyway, thanks so much maven for this great release.

decent quality vid, french titles -Les Chroniques De Narnia L'armoire Magique - (to be expected) whites very bright, darks usual green/red blocking, but pretty nice overall, obviously not gonna be a better release till TC or retail (if only the black mark weren't there)
8.5/10

all audio there in my cd1, right up to end with the little girl saying "oh no"(which repeats at start of cd2), direct too which helps

Not all Norcents play avi and raw mpegs. U should specify the model for him, or tell him to grab the ole reliable philips dvp642. and i dont wanna start a dvd player war here, so that being said.. the movie... 9/8/5 . My kid liked it tho.

Posted by shawners on 12-13-2005 05:09 AM:

hahahaha.. ALways something with these cams.. The ratio is either cropped to bad, audio is horrible, some guy stands up in the middle of the camera.. angle or tilt wrong.. They go through all this trouble to release a great cam version, and then there is a black mark on the lens. lol.. 7 for video, 8 sound.

He can go to buy.com and look up the features himself, or on vcdhelp.com under dvd players........

I have the Norcent DP 501M, two of them......they aren't made anymore, progressive, can upscale to 1080i, play raw xvid, mpegs, etc....and accept compact flash cards right in the front......I drop the files to a CF card and insert with the adapter, done.

For him, use buy.com and vcdhelp.com and find another Norcent that plays xvid....

btw, maVen Xvid is excellent.....9/9/9

Quite..

Clean, bright source. Clear audio. PROPERLY LABELED <- this means more and more lately, with the rampant mislabeling and lenient nukers

nice job on the fast release!

9/9

pity on the "scratch" in the video, hurts being OCD somtimes I'm sure it's of no consequence once you get into the story.

one question though, why is this listed in the vcd section instead of the xvid? no biggie, just wondering.

nevermind, they have moved it to xvid and maven has released a svcd encode.

Wow, maVen puts most other groups to shame.

9/9/8

Beautiful, clean image. I can't believe it's cam video. It really looks like a good telecine. Audio is very good. The movie was much better than I expected, not overly christian like I'd read it was going to be.

When I see releases this great, it pisses me off when people pull that "at least it's free" crap when people slam a shit release.

And I can't believe they released it so fast.

Posted by dontbegay on 12-13-2005 09:34 AM:

watched it all last night

the dark scenes are very dark/green/blotchy and the light scenes are overly bright, theres also a mark on the left hand side but as a telesync this is absolutely amazing and i stick by my 9/9 rating from earlier.

also the bass rumble was inaudible on my television, which is great.

movie - 8

Posted by Mr_Grinch on 12-13-2005 09:37 AM:

Not as awesome and wank worthy as people are making out. Whites over white and dark scenes (whilst not unwatchable) of a poor quality. Small bit of dirt on the right is annoying too.

That said it's still a superb release and the direct audio is loverly.

Posted by fatfecker on 12-13-2005 10:19 AM:

Why is this in the VCD section?

Posted by Dwaggy on 12-13-2005 10:39 AM:

Why are you posting in this thread?

edit: Because cams/ts/tc/screeners go to the vcd section, as the vcd section serves as the front page and is what most people look at

Posted by Jules_Tavernier on 12-13-2005 01:41 PM:

Anyone giving this a 9 or 10 for video must be fucking blind or rating from the jpeg alone.

As the above says the dark scenes are really shit, Just watch the first few mins of the movie and its enough to put you off watching it all.

The noise on the screen reminds me of watching old VHS videos.

+ that little bit of dirt on the lens IS anoying, Its like a dead pixel, if you dont notice it its cool, but as soon as you do its gunna get on your tits.

7.8.?

Posted by Brisse on 12-13-2005 01:42 PM:

I really dont see how people can vote it so high. If yuo play it on a dvd on the telly without doing anything, all black is filled with red. And its pixelated, like HP4 almost, but i havent seen anyone in front of the camera yet.

Nice movie, nice sound, for a change.

All in all, its cam in adark movie, so nice work.

mark on lense is annoying but can virtually be removed with logoaway and a run through vdubmod.

Ya, that dark mark in the screen/lens is annoying, especially in the snow scenes. But I guess if it wasn't there we wouldn't have anything to complain about. lol. Watched it on the bigscreen TV last night and I was very impressed.

Rating a TS:
V:9 - Would have been a 10 on my TS scale if the black mark wasnt there. Dark scenes were definately better than HP. I don't think there is a cam out there that can capture dark scenes any better than they are doing now.
A:10 - Nothing bad I can say about it. No sense crying over lack of DTS anymore.
M:7 - IMO it was just a good family movie (Disney).

Posted by alluro on 12-13-2005 04:51 PM:

I just watched it in my LG DVD Player and didn't have any problem.

V:9
A:10 (I only have 2 speakers, so it sounds very good)
M:7 (It's not another LOTR as I was expecting)

Very good release, though

maybe, you'll comon sence will wake up and a light will blow up over your head, a little brain will start to grow up into your head and you will start to think ... " hey, this as been actualy filmed with a camcorder into a theater ... " that day, you will start learning and find out on internet. " The mosaic of red and green is the lack of luminance caused due to the emulation of details from the CCD of the camera " in another word, this wouldn't happen with a camera with 3 CCD as big as the one they using with 1 CCD.

and if a ts look like a vhs to me, i rather watch that then the hydro silvers.

Watched this last night... well, watched half of it (I fell asleep). Anywayz, here's what I think:

Video - 8
Wow. Beautiful. Everything looks great. Although it is a bit difficult for my roommates to determine what happened in the dark scenes, they also have poorer eyesight than me :P
Also, that eyelash-like hair on the screen DOES kinda get to you. I kept thinking I needed to clean my TV (I wonder how many people will check their TV cause of this?)

Audio - 8
Really good, but it's not as good as it *could* be...which is DTS 5.1 or higher..... still; it's great. The only problem I had with the sound was that sometimes I couldn't understand what these damn English people said.

Chea!

black mark is a little bit annoying but the quality of this is rather nice! great work!

After watching the entire movie all that can be said is Awesome for a homemade TS this top of the line.

V:9.6 wouldve been a 9.9 if it wasnt for the lint/hair
A:9
M:9
I agree with the staff, nothing can be a 10,but this is as close as you're going to get.

Posted by bostones on 12-13-2005 07:27 PM:

I don't understand the few peeps that moan and groan so much ??????? perhaps it's just sour grapes. A great deal of effort as been made to get this ts out so quick and as far as I am concerned it's top marks to maVen.......and I have watched it all.

V 9

A 10

M 10

Posted by tornado=[GSW]= on 12-13-2005 07:34 PM:

video is nice for a TS, somewhat grainy and dark. Audio is pretty average, I have heard better. Movie is just about the most boring 15 minutes I have watched.

V - 8
A - 6
M - 2

BWAHAHAHAHA WTF is this? .. er OK

video = 7 ... good but dark scenes are shite, can cure them with tmpgenc xpress & sharpen it up.

audio = 9 excellent, nowt up with it. usual hollywood orchestral music that's churned out for every film, Im sure its the same soundtrack as 100 other films.

film = 4 i was bored shitless .. but then again im not 10 years old who its aimed at .. it aint no lord of the rings ... peter jackson make the sillmarillion for fucks sake , he could have done this 10 times better.

fuck dvp642
go with a norcent dp501m

you have the ability to zoom on a x/y scale only on .avi files tho.

my dream is to make the ultimate dvd player.

dream dvdplayer info:

will play all .avi types including qpel and gmc. all dvd formats including dual layer dvdrs. all region, macro free (hack code only for security purposes) svcd, vcd, mvcd, pal and ntsc, 1080i upconvertable
and able to fast foward avi files and be able to zoom on x/y scale, search ability. all subtitle formats including .sub

and the movie was good, but nero ads data to disc and I cant over burn cd1.
old 8x cd burner, and im using an old 700mhz ibm laptop for everything I do puter wise. wanna donate me your old puter? cool! pm me.

8/7/8

pretty good movie. spec hardly noticeable.. needs to clean lens better next time other wise im going to chop all their fingers off! naw im just kiddin.

my bad dude... just found it kinda odd as some other maven xvids went straight to the xvid page, I really don't care where it is posted, just wanted a reason as to why, which you gave, thanks.

Can't Play this film!

Hey!,

Does anyone know how to play this AVI?, I've tried Windows Media Player and it says I have no CodeC installed, but I AM running XViD, tried converting it with WinAVI and it says that it can't convert it because the codec isn't installed

Help!

::EDIT:: Download the latest Koepi Xvid codec? - NS::

104 replies in thread,i expect at least 95 have voted on sample alone.

this is not 9 or 10 for video it is infact probably the worst maven ive seen.

the daylight scenes are great but the dark scenes are so pixelated and discoloured it is almost unwatchable.

plus that annoying mark on screen.

having said that is is the best avaiable,i just expected a little more having become used to mavens releases.

video=7
audio=8

Posted by 0nslaught on 12-14-2005 06:36 PM:

Video= 6.5: The dark scenes are unwatchable and that black mark is annoying.

Sound=8: Pretty good sound.

Movie=?: Haven't watched it yet.

Posted by chrispeters on 12-14-2005 06:40 PM:

This is pretty bad...i am going to rate by mavens standard !!!!
V-7 (grainy...dark...and THE black mark)
A-8 pretty decent
M-8 ...gr8 for the kids !!
Overall ... not bad...but bad by maven standards (if u know wot i mean)

Video=6.5 Not as great as everyone is making out. Methinks everyone just rated the sample. The dark scenes are unwatchable, the black mark is damn annoying and the rest is grainy.

Audio=8 Pretty good audio.

Movie=? Haven't watched it yet, but I really enjoyed the book when I was 10 years old.

Posted by White Rabbit on 12-14-2005 11:49 PM:

thats why i actually prefer ORC's releases over maVen's now. the dark scenes on maven releases are horrible and covered with green and red. ORC's are just normal black color like they should be

v 8 (good, but dark scenes show how you cant really improve the color that well, im guessing a 1CCD cam who knows)

a 8.5 (good)

m ?

thanks maven but you need to work on those darker scenes, they look bad on bigger tv's

encoding software is the equivalent of The 404 going on a diet and walking thru the door. takes longer and sometimes more skill, but ultimately worth it.

Great Release, Great Movie...
not my type of movie but turned out to be really good.

Posted by ukaze on 12-15-2005 05:11 AM:

I dont think you will see a better version then this, picture is great sound is great yep the eye lash only pains sometimes cus of all the snow in this movie unless your a connoisseur it wont bother you. Have viewed it on several type of screens and have to say your bog standard 21 inch 4:3 looks the best and i would say my flat screen monitor TFT looks the worse. I was just thinking how many people rate videos that they have only watched on their monitors even some dvds look bad on a monitor (pixelated).

Posted by phrat on 12-15-2005 05:52 AM:

Awesome, Sincere thanks Maven!

Xvid's rock.

My wife was bugging me, she read the book as a kid.

I love the good vs. bad thing, love to be on the right side. Cool
flick, kind of straightforward and predictable but loved it anyway.
Loved the jaguars on the battlefield!

I think the Amber series should be done as well.

8/8/9 and saw it in the theatre.

v-8
a-8
m-8 (good movie, i thought it was going to be bad, but it had quite the imagination)

Posted by Easy_Tiger on 12-15-2005 01:05 PM:

This Xvid is of poor quality... all 1.2 gigs of it...
Image 4
sound 4

With the size of the download ie 1.2 gigs I was hoping for a crisp image... This film is a very good projection copy... the sound is echoie and the image lacks contrast along with vibrant colours...

The compression is poor and all high white's and blacks appear grainy with pixilation... The whole image is slightly out of focus...

My advice DON'T BOTHER DOWNLOADING...

I watch all these films on my xbox, great peace of kit. If a vid is poor quality it
does exagerate it but i think tjis is poor to watch even from your lapyop...

I don't know what Easy Tiger was watching, but it must not be the Maven release.
Opening sequence is not too high quality, but once the children enter Narnia, its wonderful. Nearly TC quality.
The camera isn't efficient in low light, but bright scenes are excellent.
It must be outstanding in the theater, as it looks great on my WS standalone.

Great family movie. Been waiting for 6 months, since I saw the first posters.

8/8/8

i downloaded the movie and i must admit that the video isn´t so perfect as everybody said.i mean, the dark scenes are almoust unwachable(like the one at the very beginning)so i would like to ask is it possible to clean the picture a bit with some filters or make it better in any way, maybe while convertin´ to dvd???
thx to all answers
