Return of the R-Rated Movie

I noticed that studios are pushing a lot of R-Rated blockbusters this summer. The Matrix Reloaded already proved that a movie can be rated R and have a great run at the box office, but if T3: Rise of the Machines, Bad Boys II, and American Pie 3 all turn out well, maybe studios will get some sense in them and start producing more R-Rated films. It pisses me off when a studio has a potentially good movie on their hands and then butchers the hell out of it to get it down to a PG-13 rating. This seems to happen ALL the time nowadays. Hopefully this new slew of films will bring things back in order. What does any1 else think regarding this topic?

Well also i dont think R-rated movies mean the same as they did before i mean look at like network TV some of those movies show enough as far as violence and language to be considered R rated. As times have changed where the stuff that makes an R-rated movie an R-rated movie becomes more common place and more accepted in society we have to re evaluate how they rate the movies

Or atleast thats what I think in my little world

Not in Ontario anymore. I don't know about other provinces, but now the ratings over here are like identical to the u.s. ratings, they added in an 18A to match the u.s' R.

bobby, we've always had 18a its just very rarely used. i cant remember a movie thats had 18a. almost every movie is rated 14a up here so its good for all of the younger people.

i want to see a r rated hoe-ror movie with no sex. that would be some sort of milestone. sex has ruined horror movies for 20 years. i say no more!!!

Oh I thought we only had the 18A in canadian ratings for dvd/vhs releases, not in the theaters. No matter, the teens'll have to find an 18 year old now, because a lot of the movies that would have had a 14A before are getting slapped with 18A.

As for the removal of sex from horrors, no way dude, lots of sex makes bad horror movies good

Son-Pet, I think the point of this thread was that, Last Summers Box Office had No R rated movies in the Top 10. Now with the release of The Matrix reload and T3, this summer should be hot.
