The only films that are made in the IMAX format are those 60 minute nature-related/educational features they have at the IMAX theatres, such as Everest, Galapagos, the flying one, etc. An IMAX cam is extremely hard to use and expensive, but it's probable that we've invented some kind of way to transfer a regular 35mm reel to the IMAX format, since films like The Matrix Reloaded and The Lion King are being brought to the huge IMAX screens...

when shooting two films at the same time it would become extremely difficult to film one in imax and another in 35 mill.

ok a few things. Matrix 2 and 3 are going to imax i saw in some ad the matrix 2 atleast is almost their. Also movies by disney are in or headed to imax like lion king beuty and the beast and so on. Star wars episode 2 was in imax theaters and also the last james cameron flick. Lots of things longer then 60 min documentery

Matrix Reloaded opened in IMAX theaters on June 6, I believe. I went to see it this past weekend, and it was so much better than the normal theater. Revolutions will be released in normal theaters and IMAX on the same date in November! That's the first time a feature film will hit IMAX screens on the same date as the wide release. I can't even imagine how far in advance I'd need to get tickets for that.

I think 'dolphins' or 'whales' was in 3D, those were great fieldtrips.
