never heard of the movie, is that that drug movie with catherine zeta jones?

Posted by krazyfoo on 06-01-2002 06:11 AM:

nah. this is def a great movie .. its about a murder.. but the whole story is told backwards.. because the main character can only remember things for about 15minutes until he forgets. so its told in like 15min blurbs of time. if that makes sense

Nah, that drug movie you're talking about is Steven Soderbergh's TRAFFIC. Also a pretty good movie, but I think MEMENTO is far better. The reverse-timeline format is mindblowing, and the twist at the end is one of the greatest cinematic chills I've ever experienced. In fact, I just bought the 2-disc Limited Edition DVD today

Posted by WiZZLa on 06-01-2002 06:58 AM:

memento was one of the most underrated movies at the awards (major US ones.) the whole concept of you learning with leonard is one of the things that makes it amazing, not to mention the reverse flashback other people mentioned..... check it out gnosis, but you have to pay close attention.

***POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW***
the question to anyone who saw the movie is, did you actually understand it the first, second, tenth time you watched it? and did you figure out who lenoard REALLY was?
***SPOILER END***

the original traffic (from europe) is also a good movie.

spooky, whats on the 2nd disc? i know about the tattoo gallery & interview but that was on the original release.

ya WiZZla.. first time around i THOUGHT i knew what was going on.. but it wasnt till a month later when i saw it again. that things made much more sense.

this is so much more than a movie. its an experiment in psycology. it puts ur brain through a workout

Yeah me personally I thought this movie got raped by the academy this year. I mean Lord of the Rings was ok, But moulin fucking rouge sucked and I thought that MEMENTO was "easily" the best film of the year. So i'm disappointed that it didn't get nominated for best picture, I"m disappointed that Pearce wasn't nominated for best actor. And i thought even Moss or Pantliano had an outside chance at a nomination although I didn't feel they would or should necessarily win. This film was screwed.

Spooks here...the "Limited Edition" DVD is absolutely CRAZY! One of the neatest ideas for a DVD menu ever. It asks you all of these freaky psychological tests... the packaging is even made to look like a medical record book, complete with filled out reports and forms!!

WiZZLa, the 2nd disc contains a poster gallery, international packaging, international and US trailers, images of the Polaroids used in the movie, 25-minute Sundance Channel "Anatomy of a Scene" special, the original short story (very cool!), and the original script to the film that runs alongside the movie.

But, there are a bunch of "Hidden Features" that I've had yet to find. But I've already found one and I think it's the coolest special feature ever. The entire film in CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER... it starts from the end credits and runs backwards through the entire film! Awesome.

i like traffic though, catherine is hot

Spooks, here. I dunno, pazuzu... I held off on buying the old version 'cause I knew they'd revisit it and make a Special Edition. It depends, I wanted the best copy available 'cause it's a great little indie-style film that could be done by anyone with a camera and determination. Nothing too flashy, nothing too expensive. Just a good story. That's why I bought it. I wanted to see what went on behind the scenes to get this thing done. I liked the Sundance Channel featurette, but I heard that Nolan's commentary track is pretty boring (haven't had a chance to hear it for myself). But the main reason I picked it up is so I could watch the hidden chronological version of the film. I just wanted to see how the editor approached the film and arranged it so well. I know it's expensive, so you're probably well off with your copy already. I'd really only suggest pple to buy it if they don't own it already (or you really LOVE this movie!)
