XP doesn't pass genuine test.

How do I correct this? Do I have to buy the official version?

This works 100%

Follow these instructions.

1.Right click your desktop and select new text document.

Open that document and paste the following info.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion]
"CurrentBuild"="1.511.1 () (Obsolete data - do not use)"
"ProductId"="55274-640-1011873-23081"

"LicenseInfo"=hex:33,b7,21,c1,e5,e7,cd,4b,fd,7c,c6 ,35,51,fd,52,57,17,86,3e,18,\

"OOBETimer"=hex:ff,d5,71,d6,8b,6a,8d,6f,d5,33,93,f d

2.In notepad click <file> then <save>. For file type in the save dialog box select "all files" and for the filename type in License Key.reg or whatever you want. It doesn't matter as long as it has the .reg extension. Click save. Save it to your desktop. Double click the file thats now on your desktop. It will ask you are you sure.
Tell it yes.

Step 3.

To see that it worked go to:

http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/FAQ.aspx

and click on "Validate Windows" over on the right.

I've never had any luck with those hacks, I just grab the latest cracked WGA app whenever it's released.

There's also WindizUpdate as well

What happens if I do this and it doesn't validate my copy? Will it mess up anything within my OS, or will is just remain a non-genuine copy?

If it ain't broke don't fix it, I don't update unless something doesn't work.

just do a google search for latest WPA fix update, and you should find what you need.

To answer your question, It shouldn't fuck anything up.

I got the same message. :/

Edit: Well a got Windows.Genuine.Advantage.Validation.v1.8.31.9 and it seems to have worked like a charm.

Thanks guys.

Edit2: I did the validate test again and it stills says that my copy is not genuine, but I no longer get those nagging pop-ups on my computer (in the icon tray). So what should I make of this?

And since I tried what Gimp suggested and it didn't work, can I delete the file I made?

Did you save the original as txt file or anything? You should have. First rule of computing, Back everything up.

I'm not sure if this would work, but it could maybe work.

Have you tried using tuneup utilities or something that has a registry cleaner? That may work, I don't know though.

I have not. I'm just glad the warning is gone. And I think it would be ok to delete the file I made with Gimps instructions...since it didn't do the job anyways..
